Metro: Last Light is a First-Person Shooter (FPS), with Survival-Horror gameplay elements that challenges players to survive the dangers of post-apocalyptic Moscow. Bethesda Softworks today announced the planned release of The Evil Within, a survival horror game developed at Tango Gameworks under the direction of renowned game designer and studio head, Shinji Mikami.

Best known as the father of the survival horror genre and creator of the "Resident Evil" series, Mikami is a 20-year veteran of the industry who has developed numerous award-winning titles. The Evil Within, in development for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PC and next generation consoles, is slated for release in 2014.

"We're incredibly proud to announce 'The Evil Within,'" said Mikami. "My team and I are committed to creating an exciting new franchise, providing fans the perfect blend of horror and action."

Call of Duty: Black Ops II is giving birth to a new DLC map pack called uprising on April 16th and, with that pack, you'll get Mob of the Dead.

Four mobsters find themselves trapped on the notorious Alcatraz Island. They soon find out though that they are not alone in the prison cell blocks.

Here's some rather big news in the realm of horror video games...

Capcom and Valve announced today the Resident Evil 6 x Left 4 Dead 2 project. This crossover project between two of the interactive entertainment industry's most respected publishers will see characters from Left 4 Dead 2 featured exclusively in the forthcoming PC version of Resident Evil 6, while enemies from Resident Evil 6 will invade the PC version of Left 4 Dead 2. All content will be made available completely free for fans of either game to access and play.

OP Productions and Hammerpoint Interactive announced today that controversial game The War Z is back on Steam "with new content and features." Here's the press release:

We've got a new trailer from the upcoming game Aliens: Colonial Marines.  Created by Gearbox, the developers of Borderlands and Brothers In Arms, this first-person shooter is steeped in the eerie, claustrophobic and terrifying atmosphere that made the Aliens films successful worldwide. A launch trailer for Dead Space 3 has premiered, offering a new look at the terror to come on February 5th.

Resident Evil Revelations returns redefined for release on theXbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii U and Windows PC on May 21st in North America and May 24th in Europe.  We've got the trailer for you gamers out there.

Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield return with their respective BSAA partners as they investigate a supposedly abandoned cruise ship.   With limited ammo and weapons available the race is on to survive the horrors that await them on board. Featuring additional content including a terrifying new enemy, extra difficulty mode and the opportunity to play as Hunk and other characters from the series in the online co-op and single player Raid Mode.

The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct has big shoes to fill after the release of Telltale Games' The Walking Dead last year, but it looks to be an entirely different experience. Activision has confirmed that the game will be released in North America on March 26 (just days before the season 3 finale) with the European release coming on March 29. The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a first-person action survival game that brings to life the authentic, heart-stopping horrors of the AMC Emmy® award-winning TV series The Walking Dead. In the game, players assume the role of the crossbow-wielding survivor Daryl Dixon (voiced by Norman Reedus from AMC's hit TV series) alongside his brother Merle (voiced by costar Michael Rooker). The online video series Up At Noon scored a first look at footage from The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, the video game in which you take control of the Dixon brothers and roam a zombie-infested landscape.  The video inside is 27 minutes in length, however, you'll find the footage within the first five minutes.

This first-person survival title takes place within the universe of The Walking Dead and before the events of the AMC show, following Daryl and his brother Merle on a gruesome journey to reach the supposed safety of Atlanta as the world around them ends. 2K Games has brought online the first five minutes of Irrational Games' BioShock Infinite, coming to the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC on March 26, 2013. Check it out in the player inside...

Hammerpoint Interactive is launching the Foundation Release of its zombie survival MMO The War Z on the Steam platform. The online game boasts a current community of more than 600,000 registered players, with more than 150,000 playing daily. The Foundation Release introduces a bevy of core gameplay features and, moving forward, Hammerpoint will continue to develop new content and features for the game.

The War Z is an online, multiplayer, survival-simulation game set in an open world infested with zombies. Players are thrust into this post-apocalyptic world five years after a viral outbreak that ravaged the human population and left, in its wake, a nightmare of epic proportion. Hordes of undead zombies roam the cities, and the few remaining human beings have devolved into a lawless, nomadic society where the sole objective is to survive at any cost. Players must use skill and cunning in order to acquire food, weapons and other supplies necessary for survival. While navigating the vast landscape, they will discover cities teeming with the undead as well as other players that may or may not be friendly.

Dead Space 3 is poised to arrive on February 5th, bringing with it tons of new environments and features including co-op game play.  

Take controls of a brand new character named John Carver (voiced by Desperate Housewives alum Ricardo Chavira), a hardened soldier who lost his wife and son to the Necromorph infestation. In addition to the new character, players who take part in the optional co-op campaign will also experience additional story details, side missions and gameplay mechanics.

As things are ramping up on the third season of The Walking Dead, Activision and Terminal Reality announced that series stars Norman Reedus and Michael Rooker will reprise their respective roles as fan-favorites Daryl and Merle Dixon in their upcoming The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct.

Telltale Games and Robert Kirkman, the Eisner Award-winning creator and writer of The Walking Dead for Skybound and Image Comics, announced today that "No Time Left," the final episode of their five-part game series, is now available for download.

Episode five picks up immediately where episode four ended. Clementine has been taken, kidnapped by an unseen enemy. Lee must set out onto the streets and rooftops of the city of Savannah, a place now completely overrun by the undead, to get her back.

"No Time Left" concludes Telltale's first five- part game season of The Walking Dead, which debuted in April of this year. Episodes one through four were met with critical acclaim including various Editor's Choice Awards, Best of E3 2012 awards and nominations, a Golden Joystick nomination and 6 nominations in this year's upcoming Spike TV Video Game Awards, including Game of the Year. Metacritic scores rank the series as one of 2012's biggest critical hits.

Sony has informed us that it has launched a new Resident Evil: Retribution "Street Invasion" game.  The description?  "Defend your neighborhood from Undead Invaders. Type in your location and begin your fight against Umbrella Corp by shooting zombies – right on your own local streets.  You'll find it via this link.

In the anticipated video game Aliens: Colonial Marines, a competitive multiplayer mode allows you to choose to be either a Xenomorph or Colonial Marine.  SEGA has released a new trailer to demonstrate this mode and you can check it out inside.

The game hits stores February 12, 2013.

PopCap Games, a division of EA, announced that the underground growth of the sequel to Plants vs. Zombies, one of the world’s most popular video games, is germinating and advancing with rigor.

The sequel to Plants vs. Zombies is expected to launch by late spring 2013, and will include a bevy of new features, settings, and situations, designed to delight the franchise’s tens of millions of fans around the world. No other details of the highly anticipated new installment in the franchise are available at this time, beyond the following comments from some of the game’s denizens.

“Spring is ungood time, and plantz grow dull roots,” noted an unidentified spokesperson. “So, we are meating you for brainz at yore house. No worry to plan…we're free anytime. We'll find you.”

Ecko|Code and Showtime Networks today announced that Dexter The Game 2, the sequel to 2010’s Dexter The Game, will arrive on iOS, Android and PC this fall to coincide with Dexter Season seven, which premieres on Showtime on September 30th at 9 p.m. ET/PT.

Developed internally at Ecko|Code in conjunction with Showtime, Dexter The Game 2 puts players in the shoes of America’s favorite vigilante in an open-world Miami. Dexter navigates the city in his own signature style. Crime scenes will be investigated with the knowledge that the serial killers who have evaded Miami’s Police Department will be stalked and given their comeuppance by Dexter's Dark Passenger. Series star and executive producer Michael C. Hall has provided the voice of Dexter Morgan and has been a close collaborator in the game’s development.

It appears Resident Evil 6 - the anticipated sequel to Capcom's hit series - will feature nearly four hours of cutscenes!

That's according to Game Informer who sources the British Board of Film Classification for the intel.  Apparently the game will have 255 minutes of cutscenes.  That's more than Resident Evil 5 (65 minutes) and Resident Evil 4 (127 minutes).  So, get ready for a massive Resident Evil experience.

Think you’re tough enough to survive a horde of undead walkers?  Gamers will be able to find out next year as Activision Publishing Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Activision Blizzard, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI), and Terminal Reality announced today an all-new The Walking Dead™ video game. Telltale Games and Robert Kirkman announced today that, "Starved for Help," the second episode of the game series based on the critically acclaimed comic book series, The Walking Dead, is now available for download.

In this tailored game experience, players get the chance to see how their story continues based on the decisions that they made in episode one, "A New Day."

Starved for Help is now available to download on Xbox LIVE Arcade for the Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, followed on Friday, June 29th on PlayStation Network for the PlayStation 3 computer entertainment system.  The PC and Mac versions of the episode will also be available to download on June 29 from the in-game menu.

Capcom released today a two-part gameplay video from its forthcoming title Resident Evil 6.  Both focus solely on Leon Kennedy.

Resident Evil: Retribution is the fifth installment of the wildly successful film franchise that has grossed nearly $700 million worldwide to date. Screen Gems will release Resident Evil: Retribution, in state-of-the art 3D, in the United States on September 14, 2012. 

Bigpoint is prepping the release of its anticipated free-to-play (F2P) browser-based title, Universal Monsters Online.

The game, which Bigpoint is developing in collaboration with Universal Partnerships & Licensing, will enable players to experience Universal’s iconic cast of classic monsters in a highly-competitive Multiplayer Online Battle Arena (MOBA) setting.

Taking on the persona of Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, and The Creature from the Black Lagoon – among many other notable monsters from Universal’s rich history – players compete with and against each other in a blend of combat and strategic game play.

Like all Bigpoint titles, Universal Monsters Online will be F2P. In-game currency can be used to purchase items such as new characters (after a free-trial period), unique character skins, and special abilities.

The Maxis Label of Electronic Arts Inc. revealed it will release The Sims 3 Supernatural Expansion Pack for PC/Mac is in development and will launch worldwide in September 2012.

The latest offering from The Sims Studio allows players to create and live out the lives of supernatural Sims like werewolves, witches, vampires and fairies. Curse or charm your Sims’ lives with powerful spells, volatile elixirs and magical abilities in a world of strange happenings, spooky surprises and even the occasional zombie attack.

At this point, filmmaker James Gunn has a pretty decent run of genre movies under his belt, writing the screenplays for Zack Snyder's Dawn of the Dead remake and the Scooby Doo film before getting behind the camera to direct twisted movies like Slither and last year's violent superhero tale Super.

In the last few years, Gunn's been exploring a variety of other mediums with his hilariously irreverent webseries "PG Porn" and as a judge on the reality TV show "Scream Queens," so it was only a matter of time before he'd finally bring his sense of humor and love for gore to video games with Lollipop Chainsaw, which follows the journey of Juliet Starling, a cheerleader with a chainsaw, who must take on a high school full of zombies.

Sony has revealed two photos from the upcoming Resident Evil: Retribution, we suspect, in anticipation of a rumored new trailer that is on the way.

Interactive Entertainment, Electronic Arts, SEGA, THQ and NAMCO BANDAI Games Inc. are demonstrating how their biggest franchises are being reimagined for Wii U.

Ubisoft's ZombiU puts players in the middle of London circa 2012 where an outbreak has infected the population, destroying their humanity and turning them into mindless monsters. 

Game Trailers has landed the first trailer and gameplay footage from Electronic Arts' Dead Space 3.  It looks like all of those rumors of Isaac Clark venturing to an ice planet were true...

E3 is upon us and the game news is a-flowin'.  On the horror tip, Capcom has officially released its full trailer for Resident Evil 6, expected to hit on October 2nd.

It has been ten years since the incident at Raccoon City and the President of the United States has decided to reveal the truth behind what took place. Raccoon City survivor and personal friend of the President, Leon S. Kennedy, arrives to find the President transformed beyond recognition by a bioterrorist attack. Leon is forced to make the hardest decision he has ever made.  At the same, Bioterrorism Security Assessment Alliance Member, Chris Redfield arrives in China, itself under threat of a bioterrorist attack.

Ahead of E3, Konami has revealed its trailer for the forthcoming game Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2.  This teaser is pretty gorgeous as it depicts Gabriel Belmont, the game's protagonist, taking on an army with his supernatural abilities.  The game is expected to arrive sometime in 2013.

Following the success of Chronicle, director Josh Trank's future was up in the air.  Does he do a sequel?  The Fantastic Four reboot?  The Spider-Man spin-off, Venom?  Which project does he tackle next?  Who knows?  But the bottom line was: Trank was in a good place with lots of options.

Deadline is reporting he'll - at some point - take on the video game adaptation Shadow of Colossus for Sony Pictures.  And what an undertaking this film is going to be.

It's usually a bittersweet moment when a comic book becomes a video game.  As a fan, we get excited because it's our favorite comic book come to life and we get to be a part of it, but more often than not it's about as disappointing as when one of the "big two" announce a big summer event series and it is ultimately lackluster (looking at you Avengers vs X-Men).  Having said that, there are still plenty of comic books out there that could do with a good video game.

If you follow me on Twitter, you'll know that while I don't play a lot of video games, Batman: Arkham City really captured me as it did everyone else.  That game is nearly perfect and the same formula could be applied to essentially any comic book hero or series and it would work.  For the sake of not sounding repetitive, I've limited myself to only choosing the Arkham City formula for one series, just so we can have a wide variety of styles here.

Now, let's put something on the proverbial table here before we get cracking.  This list is, of course, my opinion and the style of video game that I've chosen for each comic book might not be what you consider “fun” or “cool” or whatever the kids say these days but it's what I like, so let's be cool in the comments section.

The TV show and comic book have gone on very different paths, but one thing has remained constant: The Walking Dead characters constantly face tough choices.  Kill a zombie or sneak past it?  Risk your life for supplies or escape to safety and hope for a better opportunity later?  Chop a dude’s hand off or leave him to do it himself?  It provides a lot of “What would I do in that situation” type thinking, so it’s no surprise that the franchise’s first video game is all about choices, with minimal action.  

And who better to deliver that sort of gameplay-lite approach to a big license than Telltale Games, who have tackled Jurassic Park and Back To The Future as well?  I’m sure some folks would prefer a Resident Evil type survival horror adventure game, but this version actually fits the approach of the comic quite nicely – lots of talk, lots of characters, minimal but just enough action to keep you interested…in terms of the original work’s spirit, it’s probably one of the most successful licensed games in recent memory.

Blizzard Entertainment has released this new TV spot for Diablo III, coming for the PC and Mac on May 15.

Whoever said diamonds are a girl’s best friends obviously has never met Juliet Starling’s sisters in Lollipop Chainsaw.  Juliet’s big sis, Cordelia, is an expert zombie hunter and never leaves home without her trusty sniper rifle – the perfect tool for picking off the undead at long range.  The baby Starling of the family, Rosalind, might only be 16, but that doesn’t mean she can’t slay zombies, too!

A new Italian trailer - entitled "Captivate" - for Capcom's anticipated video game sequel, Resident Evil 6, has hit the web this morning, revealing new footage.

This title is reportedly now hitting shelves on October 2nd.  That's a lot sooner than the November 20th date Capcom announced.  Hopefully, we'll have confirmation on that earlier date soon.

Sure, we've seen our share of video games inspired by the Alien franchise.  But why do we get the sense that Aliens: Colonial Marines will be "the one"?  The one that impresses us and makes us feel we right there in the fight.  Some game play footage that surfaced today certainly evokes that.  You'll want to check this out.
