Shock Interview: Stoker Director Park Chan-wook
Edward Douglas
Wednesday, March 06, 2013
Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook has officially broken into Hollywood with his first English language film Stoker, a psychological thriller starring Nicole Kidman, Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode.
While on the surface it may seem like somewhat of a departure from his previous films like Old Boy, Lady Vengeance or the vampire film Thirst, fans of his visceral style of filmmaking should be thrilled by some of the amazing visuals he has produced to tell this creepy coming-of-age tale about a girl named India Stoker (Wasikowska) who loses her father but gains a creepy, seemingly disturbed uncle (Goode), whose obsession with her can't be considered healthy.
ShockTillYouDrop.com got to speak briefly with Director Park while he was in New York City last week for a few last minute events to promote the movie before it opened.

Prepare yourself, foreign genre film fanatics, because director Park Chan-wook of Oldboy fame has finally made the leap over to our shores with his first English language film, the creepy erotic thriller, Stoker, starring Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode and Nicole Kidman.
Wasikowska plays India Stoker, a teenage girl whose father died in a horrible car accident leaving her alone with her unstable mother (Kidman), when her uncle Charlie shows up and things start getting progressively worse. And that's where Matthew Goode comes into the picture.
Mystery and Intrigue on the Set of Stoker

Wednesday, February 27, 2013
On October 17th, 2011 I visited the set of Park Chan-wook's English-language debut Stoker in Nashville, Tennessee.
That's about the only discernable fact you're going to gleam from reading this, as it was one of the more beguiling set visits I've ever been on in six years of doing this, and that's saying something.
It was such an unusual set visit, with no formal interviews to be had, that for the first time I felt like I had to watch the completed film itself in order to properly contextualize everything. Having seen the film, much of what was seen being shot that day makes more sense, although much of it will have to remain unexplained so that first-time viewers can enjoy the kaleidoscopic pleasures of suspense within this slowly-peeled onion of a thriller.
Review: Stoker
Edward Douglas
Wednesday, February 27, 2013

Without question, the big draw for Stoker is that it's the first American movie from South Korea's Park Chan-wook, the visionary director behind movies like Old Boy, Lady Vengeance and other thrillers that mix art with brutal violence.
The premise for this coming-of-age thriller seems to be right up his alley as it follows one person's quest to overcome adversity, although India Stoker is much younger than his previous protagonists.
India Stoker (Mia Wasikowska) is a loner, an outcast of a teenager who prefers to spend time alone or with her father, but on her 18th birthday, her father dies in a tragic car accident, leaving India alone with her already unstable mother (Nicole Kidman). Then her father's brother Charles (Matthew Goode) shows up for reasons that are unclear and strange things start happening around India.

Listen to Philip Glass' Duet from Stoker Here

Wednesday, February 13, 2013
When Stoker arrives in theaters on March 1st, it does so with a new composition from Philip Glass. It's a piano piece called "Duet" and, in the film, it's performed by Mia Wasikowska and Matthew Goode. Glass has done quite a bit, of course, but horror fans know he composed the soundtrack to Bernard Rose's Candyman and Universal's Dracula (for a re-release).
You can listen to it inside.
Directed by Park Chan-wook, the film also stars Nicole Kidman and we're highly recommending you check it out!

Park Chan-wook (Oldboy) makes his English-language film debut with Stoker, a thriller which debuted at Sundance last month and is opening from Fox Searchlight March 1st. One month out from its release, ShockTillYouDrop.com is happy to share with you four exclusive images.
The film stars Mia Wasikowska, Matthew Goode, Nicole Kidman and Dermot Mulroney; I caught an early screening on the Fox recently and I have to say that Chan-wook knocked it out of the park (no pun intended) with this one. It's visually rich, twisted and flat-out awesome.
