I really wanted to like Smiley. And I really want to tell you that it is a fun slasher flick that serves as an introduction to a great new killer. But I can’t, and if you’re looking for something to watch during the spooky season, look elsewhere. This is a pretentious, scare-free, and ridiculously stupid horror movie.
The opening provides background information on a serial killer known as Smiley. A young girl tells her babysitter all about the urban legend. You visit a site called Hide and Go Chat (explained as being like Skype except you don’t know who you’re talking to) and engage a stranger in an online chat. Then you type “I did it all for the lulz” three times. Smiley, with eyes stitched shut and a carved smile, appears behind you and guts you with their knife.

Smiley is one fall release you're very eager to check out. It's possible that it could be a very generic slasher offering, but with a unique looking killer, I hope the same creativity that went into his design bleeds into the story.
The film is poised to open on October 12th in select AMC Theaters and, today, an international poster has made its debut.
