It's our year-end special!

ShockTillYouDrop.com's managed editor, Ryan Turek, and Lawrence Raffel, of FEARnet.com, reflect on horror in 2012.  While Turek focuses on the films that did not make his "top 8" list (consider it the "best of the rest"), Raffel weighs in with his movies picks of the year.  Perhaps you missed out on some of the titles they recommend in this title...  Listen in!

Podcast! Shock Waves 2.6, The Best of the Horror Remakes

Thursday, November 15, 2012

Remakes, remakes, remakes!

When it comes to horror, Hollywood loves remakes and Ryan Turek (ShockTillYouDrop.com) and Lawrence Raffel (FEARnet.com) are here to discuss the topic with Brian Collins (Horror Movie a Day/BadAss Digest) and Sam Zimmerman (Fangoria).

Rather than mire the discussion talking about decades-worth of bad remakes, this quartet take a look at their personal favorite remakes.  Which films made the cut and why?  Head inside and give this latest episode a listen (or visit iTunes and download the episode!).

Music provided by: Paul Buckmaster (12 Monkeys theme), 3 Inches of Blood (Goatriders Horde)

Our Podcast Returns! Listen to Shock Waves 2.1 Now!

Thursday, August 09, 2012

About six months ago, FEARnet's Lawrence Raffel and myself put the all-horror podcast we had been collaborating on, called Shock Waves, on hold.

A few factors into its hiatus (we knocked out 18 episodes consistently from July 2011 to January of this year), but nothing ever stays dead in this genre so we both agreed it was time to bring Shock Waves back, especially after the listener feedback asking when it would return.

Here's the rub.  All of our old episodes, from "season 1" we'll call them, are gone.  Lost to the Internet.  Don't ask me where they went, but they no longer exist, sadly.  We're starting "season 2" with a clean slate you might say.

In this installment, we're getting back into the groove of things.  We look at various horror movies we've liked and disliked in 2012 so far.  We also weigh in on the Korean import Deranged, now playing in select theaters.

Brian Collins (from BadAss Digest, Horror Movie a Day) swings by for a discussion about Halloween 4 and Halloween 5, two titles making their Blu-ray debut this month from Anchor Bay Entertainment.  How do the sequels featuring the iconic horror villain Michael Myers hold up?  Oh, we'll tell you...

All of this and much more in the Shock Waves relaunch!  Listen inside.

Podcast! Shock Waves 1.4

Saturday, August 27, 2011

This week, it's all about the films of Stephen King! Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Turek and FEARnet's Lawrence Raffel look at the best and worst King adaptations, but before they get to that, listen to reviews for The Caller, Yellowbrickroad and MTV's Death Valley.

The two discuss a few trailer premieres and run down some of the big news stories of the week including updates on The Invisible Man remake, Ghostbusters 3 and The Last Exorcism 2. On the comic book scene, hear what they have to say about BOOM! Studios' "Hellraiser" series and the death of "Hellboy." Oh yes, it's another meaty episode. Grab a fork and knife and dig in...!

Podcast! Shock Waves 1.3

Tuesday, August 09, 2011

After three weeks of silence, Shock Waves is back.  Hosts Ryan Turek (Shock Till You Drop's managing editor) and Lawrence Raffel (FEARnet.com) are back to briefly reflect on the highlights of Comic-Con.

The two present mini-reviews of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Super Hybrid and Atrocious. Also on the discussion table: The forthcoming Resident Evil: Retribution. Should fans be more open-minded about cinematic adaptations of their favorite properties?

Lawrence and Ryan also field questions from Shock Waves listeners. What got the hosts into horror in the first place? Are there any horror directors today showing promise? And finally, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D. Ryan thinks the casting for the new film is too gimmicky, Lawrence disagrees. All of this and more!

Podcast! Shock Waves 1.2

Saturday, July 16, 2011

It was a big week in horror movie news and Shock Till You Drop's Ryan Turek and FEARnet's Lawrence Raffel are here to weigh in on it all.

Tune in to hear what they have to say about the upcoming Evil Dead remake, which has Diablo Cody on board as a writer, The Thing prequel, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 3D and Godzilla.

Podcast! Shock Waves 1.1

Monday, July 11, 2011

In the first official episode of Shock Till You Drop's podcast, Shock Waves, yours truly and FEARnet's Lawrence Raffel take a look at films like The Reef, Attack the Block and I Saw the Devil, chat about their visit to the 1988 Gallery's Crazy for Cult event, preview the upcoming terrors that will be seen at the San Diego Comic-Con and reflect on the horror model kit scene. Yes, model kits. A hobby I thoroughly enjoyed in my teens and one that broke my bank on several occasions, but hey, model kit building kept me out of trouble, and that's what counts, right?

As with episode 0, we're still getting into a groove here. Your feedback on our last endeavor was encouraging and mostly positive (well, I'll just say I haven't heard anything bad yet). This truly is a grassroots effort and something we're enjoying.
