Although director Paul W.S. Anderson was making movies for many years before he tackled Capcom's Resident Evil as a film, that's the movie he's become the most closely associated with, having written all five movies and directed three of them.
This September, the fifth chapter in the series, Resident Evil: Retribution, will open nationwide September 14th, bringing back not only Milla Jovovich's Alice but a lot of characters from the previous installments - many of them who are dead - as well as introducing Ada Wong (Bingbing Li) and Leon Kennedy (Johann Urb) from the games.
Even though it may not seem like the movies have gotten that much bigger in terms of business since the first movie in 2002, the previous movie, Resident Evil Afterlife, which was the first one filmed in 3D, became a nearly $300 million global phenomenon. That may be why Resident Evil: Retribution is boasting its own global initiative as Alice and friends end up travelling to a lot of different places outside Raccoon City in this one.
Both Shock Till You Drop and ComingSoon.net have interviewed Anderson many times, but for one reason or another, this writer has never had a chance to even meet him, so it was cool to finally be able to meet and talk to this master of the horror and video game movie genre.

The Underworld and Resident Evil movies have been quite lucrative for Sony's Screen Gems division and both of those franchises have created quite a devout fanbase with their combination of horror and action, so it wouldn't be too surprising there may be some crossover between the fans.
Some of them may have even wondered if there's any possibility of the two franchises one day crossing over, since let's face it, a movie that stars both Kate Beckinsale's vampire Selene and Millo Jovovich's Alice would be pretty kick-ass. The coincidence that directors Len Wiseman and Paul W.S. Anderson happen to be married to their respective leading ladies makes it an even more intriguing prospect.
It's a question fans of both franchises have wondered and when Shock Till You Drop had a chance to talk to Wiseman and Anderson at Comic-Con we decided to throw it out there. After all, Anderson was the man behind 20th Century Fox's Aliens vs. Predator, which (relatively) successfully allowed the studio to relaunch both science fiction horror franchises. Read what they had to say after the jump.

It appears Resident Evil 6 - the anticipated sequel to Capcom's hit series - will feature nearly four hours of cutscenes!

Following the Milla Jovovich Q&A (watch a replay here), we now have the new trailer for Resident Evil: Retribution which you can watch it inside! I have to say, it's got a clever start as it opens like a romantic comedy until all hell breaks loose (some of you might say it's very Dawn of the Dead remake-ish).
Screen Gems will release Resident Evil: Retribution, in state-of-the art 3D, in the United States on September 14, 2012.
In Resident Evil: Retribution, the Umbrella Corporation's deadly T-virus continues to ravage the Earth, transforming the global population into legions of the flesh eating Undead. The human race's last and only hope, Alice (Jovovich), awakens in the heart of Umbrella's most clandestine operations facility and unveils more of her mysterious past as she delves further into the complex. Without a safe haven, Alice continues to hunt those responsible for the outbreak; a chase that takes her from Tokyo to New York, Washington, D.C. and Moscow, culminating in a mind-blowing revelation that will force her to rethink everything that she once thought to be true. Aided by newfound allies and familiar friends, Alice must fight to survive long enough to escape a hostile world on the brink of oblivion. The countdown has begun.

The last time we caught up to writer-director Paul W.S. Anderson it was on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution, the fifth film in the Screen Gems series spawned from the Capcom video games. Since then, we've seen a teaser trailer make its premiere, giving us a sense of what's to come.
At WonderCon 2012 in Anaheim, California, Shock Till You Drop reconnected with the man to find out where he's at in the production process and to discuss new creatures, opening up the Resident Evil world and those supposed flashbacks that were hinted at in the teaser.

Well, here's something we didn't know. Nemesis' big hulking ass is going to make an appearance in the upcoming video game Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, which streets this years. Evidence comes via Game Trailers' game play footage. This is the first time I'm seeing the game play and, to be honest, it looks underwhelming. As a Resident Evil fan, I hope the game proves me wrong.
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City brings the player back to the initial viral outbreak and allows you to play as part of a clean-up crew sent in to handle the situation.

You enter a typical soundstage. It's all cables and beams, wood and iron. Crew members are layered in sweaters and long pants to fight off the chill inside. The brave ones wear shorts. At the soundstage's entrance is a Christmas tree; its yuletide glow is tarnished by the fake corpse of an Umbrella Corporation soldier propped up in a chair next to it. Behind him, a pane of glass splattered with blood.
Welcome to Camp Evil.
Weaving in an out of the gaffers, grips and production assistants, you try not to trip yourself on the minefield of apple boxes, power strips and black cables stretching out into the shadows. There's a gigantic set to the left. White pillars stretching to the ceiling and pristine, glossy white floor tiles being dismantled. Crew members work at a hurried pace to bring the set down by the end of the day. If one were to set up a camera and shoot this process with time lapse photography, the playback would be akin to watching ants working over a fresh carcass, stripping meat from a bone.
This set is just the front half of the soundstage. The remaining square acres are a different story, hell, different environment entirely. It's a set built to impress.
What stretches out before you is a white, icy landscape. Fake snow drifts lazily to the ground. Ahead, lying on its side like a wounded animal is some sort of all-terrain vehicle. And jutting out of the "ice" from below is a submarine conning tower, Umbrella logo emblazoned on the side.

Thank God for Milla Jovovich's faux fireplace - a metal and glass box embedded in the wall that emits a nflickering glow like a fireplace and jettisons hot air. Toronto, Canada in mid-December is a frigid place. But, courtesy of the actress, she has visiting press members huddled around her trailer's fireplace in a semi-circle while she sits casually on the floor in the middle, digital recorders strewn before her. The iPhone with the bedazzled case featuring the signature red and white Umbrella Corporation logo? Yeah, that's hers.
Jovovich is prepping for a big showdown sequence today on the set of Resident Evil: Retribution. A stand-off situation that will ultimately transpire into a guns a-blazin', fists a-flyin' brawl between her character, Alice, and Sienna Guillory's Jill Valentine. And her excitement hasn't wavered. Not after nearly 10 years of living with the Resident Evil franchise, moreover, Alice - a woman who woke up in a ominous mansion, rediscovered some of her past, learned she was infected with the T-virus, had made friends, seen friends die and fought off endless waves of zombies and assorted creatures, big and small.

This morning, however, the actress gave her Twitter account followers a taste of the carnage being filmed this week. And it involves something BIG.
