News and Reviews
Ah, Prometheus. The dividing lines have been drawn and you're either into it or your not. While The Avengers gobbled up all of the box office cash, Ridley Scott's anticipated sci-fi summer offering seems to be the one to be gobbling up all of the film discussion.
I mean, everyone appears to agree The Avengers was innocent, big fun with the conversation going so far as to talk highlights ("Remember when the Hulk...?"). Prometheus, on the other hand, has fueled a lot of heated debate. Essays have been written, Twitter wars have broken out. Hell, in the bar I attended Saturday night, a chat about the film's value to the world of sci-fi/horror kick-started instantly.
People are getting very passionate about how they feel regarding Prometheus and, this morning, a friend alerted me to a hilarious "SMS Dialogue" between Noomi Rapace's Shaw character and an Engineer. Naturally, it's SPOILER FILLED, so do not proceed if you haven't see the film - but I think it's a fine (creative?) example of how people are voicing their opinions - in this case - about the film's massive logistical flaws. And doing it in a way that might be a bit easier for the ADD, text-frenzy types out there will understand.
Those masters of movie collectibles at NECA have revealed that they landed the license to Ridley Scott's Prometheus and are creating a few action figures based on the film.
In addition to photos, the company released a video teaser which you can view after the jump.
Series 1 focuses on the Engineers and two 8 1/2-inch figures will be made available. One in a pressure suit, the other in the chair suit (the recognizable "Space Jockey" design).
The figures are going to be on display at the San Diego Comic-Con next month, however, they will not be available until September.
The wait is over. Ridley Scott's return to the Alien universe (and we can rightly say that), Prometheus, has opened in 3D and IMAX and we want you to sound off with your thoughts on the film. Use our comment board below to voice your feelings - keep it spoiler-free and intelligent. And please be respectful of your fellow reader's opinions.
Does the film live up to the hype? Did it meet your expectations in regards to being connected to the Alien franchise? Or did it fail? Which characters stood out for you? Again - our comment boards are here for you!
You can feast on all of our Prometheus coverage via this link. Watch our interview with Ridley Scott and read our interviews with cast members Noomi Rapace, Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and others.
As you may already realize, ShockTillYouDrop.com and ComingSoon.net were in London last week for the junket and premiere of Sir Ridley Scott's Prometheus, and we've been sharing some of our interviews over the past week.
We saved the best for last as we have exclusive interviews with five of the actors who make up a portion of the crew of the exploratory spaceship Prometheus who end up finding more then they expected: Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender, Noomi Rapace, Guy Pearce and Logan Marshall-Green.
In the last few years, Swedish actress Noomi Rapace has been transitioning into a respected and in-demand actress in Hollywood after getting attention as the original "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" in the Scandinavian "Millennium" thrillers before playing a gypsy in Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows, opposite Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law.
Although Ridley Scott's Prometheus is very much an ensemble piece, her Dr. Elizabeth Shaw is very much the central character as it's her desire to find answers to where we came from that sends her and a crew of 17 on the exploration vessel Prometheus into the furthest reaches of space to answer an invitation found on ancient cave paintings.
ShockTillYouDrop attended the London junket for the movie and sat in on a roundtable with the actress alongside some of the internet's crack journalists to hear her talk about working with Ridley and the influence of the original Alien's leading lady, Sigourney Weaver, among other things.
Next up in our series of interviews from the London junket of Ridley Scott's Prometheus is Michael Fassbender, the Irish actor who has been making huge waves in Hollywood both with smaller artier films like Steve McQueen's Shame and big blockbusters like last year's X-Men: First Class.
In Prometheus, Fassbender plays one of the more interesting characters, the cyborg David, placed onboard the Prometheus by Weyland Corporation President Peter Weyland (Guy Pearce) to help the crew fulfill its mission on another planet. David is inquisitive about everything, but his curiosity tends to get the better of his human colleagues, making him the instigator for some of the worst things that happen to the Prometheus' crew in trying to get Weyland the results he expects.
You can read our earlier interview with Charlize Theron here.
A new TV spot for Ridley Scott's Prometheus has come online and can be watched after the jump.
Hitting North American 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on Friday, June 8, the anticipated sci-fi thriller stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron. The film takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.
Cool connections to Ridley Scott's Alien, a great performance by Michael Fassbender, and impressive production design make Prometheus well worth checking out in theaters, but a familiar plot and stupid choices by the characters keep it from being the sci-fi classic it could have been.
In 2089, after scientists Elizabeth Shaw and Charlie Holloway discover clues about ancient astronauts on Earth, the Weyland Corporation funds an expedition into space where the aliens are believed to be located. Shaw and Holloway go along for the ride with the expedition.
When they arrive on the desolate planet, they find clear signs that intelligent life has been there. The crew is drawn to a massive domed structure obviously built by the aliens they are looking for, but when they get inside, they are completely unprepared for what they discover.
As mentioned previously, ShockTillYouDrop.com and ComingSoon.net are currently in London for the week to talk with Sir Ridley Scott and the cast of his new outer space thriller Prometheus, and we're ready to share some of the many interviews we've done, starting with Academy Award-winning actress Charlize Theron.
In Prometheus, she plays Meredith Vickers, the woman in charge of Prometheus' expedition, representing the Weyland Corporation, and let's just say that she's not the warm and cuddly individually we normally see Theron play in movies like Monster, Young Adult and Snow White and the Huntsman (ha ha).
Here's a roundtable interview with the actress we sat on in with a group of journalists earlier in our trip. At the end, Charlize even talked about her upcoming stint in George Miller's Mad Max: Fury Road, which will start filming in Namibia in July.
ComingSoon.net and ShockTillYouDrop.com are currently in London for the junket and premiere of Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, something we can’t say too much about just yet unfortunately, but we know how excited everyone is for this movie, so we’re kicking off a week of Prometheus stuff with an interview with co-screenwriter Jon Spaihts, who was involved with the early stages of making the movie happen.
Spaihts is a screenwriter who has been very much demand in recent years, mainly due to his screenplay for an outer space adventure called Passengers for Keanu Reeves that made the 2007 screenplay Black List - an industry award given to the best unproduced spec screenplays each year - but has still yet to be produced. Since then, Spaihts worked on the screenplay for last year’s The Darkest Hour, and the anticipation for Ridley Scott returning to the world of his early film Alien in Prometheus has gotten even more people in Hollywood interested in Spaihts’ work.

Starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Idris Elba, Logan Marshall-Green and Charlize Theron, the sci-fi thriller hits 3D, 2D and IMAX 3D theaters on June 8. The movie was written by Damon Lindelof, Jon Spaihts and Scott.
After she completed The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo trilogy and before Prometheus, Noomi Rapace tackled a supernatural thriller called Babycall. That film is being re-titled for its U.S. release to The Monitor and it's coming to DVD July 24th from Lionsgate Home Entertainment.
After escaping an abusive husband, Anna (Rapace) and her 8-year-old son move far away to a secret location. Terrified that her ex-husband will find them, she buys a baby monitor to keep in her son’s room at all times - but she soon discovers strange noises echoing through the monitor from elsewhere in the building. As she witnesses the sounds of what she believes is another child being murdered, she fears the worst – that it’s her own son. Reliving the nightmare she recently escaped, Anna will need to figure out what’s real and what isn’t before she loses her sanity and her child.
The DVD will come with deleted scenes.
A pre-sale ticket stub for Ridley Scott's Prometheus has revealed that the film apparently has received an R rating from the MPAA. For those who get flustered over ratings, this should appease you.
Update: Prometheus is indeed rated R for "sci-fi violence including some intense images, and brief language."

What are we listening to? Sounds like a crew member of the Prometheus is encountering something not so friendly...

Twentieth Century Fox has released the latest viral video to promote Ridley Scott's Prometheus. This time, it's a faux advertisement for the "next generation David," the robot seen in the upcoming film - opening June 8th - who is played by Michael Fassbender.
The promo comes courtesy of the Weyland Corporation, of course, the main focus of Fox's viral campaign for the film. What can we glean from this video? Michael Fassbender rules. In all seriousness, this is some classy viral marketing. Give the video a look inside.

The image gives you a look at the design of the eponymous ship which carries stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Logan Marshall-Green, Charlize Theron and Idris Elba to their (final?) destination in the film. It's pretty darn cool and, if I was still a kid, something I'd probably hang in my room...next to a blueprint of the Delorean from Back to the Future.
Prometheus opens June 8th. Head inside for a look at the graphic!
Recently, we introduced you to the Prometheus Facebook app which promised to reveal new images from the upcoming Ridley Scott sci-fi epic. A bunch were revealed here on Shock at this spot. This morning, we have two more to share. One of which is apparently a "mural" that is discovered by the film's crew. Another is of the eponymous ship.
Speculate away as to what the mural represents. Me? I'm done speculating. I've seen enough from this film to get me excited and I'd rather not know much more, to be honest.
The film opens June 8th.
The outlet detailed what they witnessed and you can read all about it after the jump. Or not. You may want to spare yourself any spoilers, considering the film doesn't open for another two months.

Is every image from Ridley Scott's Prometheus a piece of art? It appears that location will be revealing more videos and pics in the weeks to come.

Twentieth Century Fox's international division has released a bevy of images from Ridley Scott's Prometheus. Granted, some of these appeared in that new issue of Empire magazine which hits stands in the U.S. soon. But they're not scans and there are a few new pics to behold.
The film doesn't open on June 8th, but the hype machine is well underway with promo materials now stating that Prometheus is from the director of Alien, something Fox avoided early in the ad campaign but is now embracing.
We told you earlier the latest issue of Empire magazine was going run a full spread on Prometheus, Ridley Scott's Alien prequel (yeah, we have no problem calling it that now). Said spread has inevitably made its way online, boasting more photos from the film. We have a few waiting for you after the jump.
One thing being called into question about Ridley Scott's Prometheus is the rating. There were rumors long ago that the film would hit theaters with a PG-13. Naturally, fans cringed.
In an interview with Empire recently, Scott said: "The question is, do you go for the PG-13, [which] financially makes quite a difference, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Essentially, it's kinda R. It's not just about the blood, it's about ideas that are very stressful. I'm not an idiot, but I'll do everything I can to get the most aggressive film I can."
UK movie mag, Empire, revealed the cover for its May issue. Want to take a wild guess as to which film is in the spotlight? Well, Prometheus is released the following month, so yes, Ridley Scott's highly-anticipated flick is the cover story.
You'll get a larger glimpse of the cover - which features a new shot of star Noomi Rapace - after the jump. The May Empire is expected to hit stands overseas March 29th. Look for it in the U.S. shortly thereafter.
Prometheus opens June 8th and also stars Charlize Theron, Michael Fassbender and Logan Marshall-Green. You'll also find a third TV spot within.
Updated with second image! The Prometheus viral fun continues... Today, if you venture to ProjectPrometheus.com/Eridu and type in the password "tell abu shahrain" you will be taken to a new image from the upcoming Ridley Scott film opening June 8th.

A brand new image from Ridley Scott's Prometheus surfaced today by way of some viral fun that was taking place at Weyland Industries. Granted, it's an image we saw teased in the trailer released a bit ago, but it's still pretty stunning.
The highly-anticipated film hitting theaters on June 8th, Ridley Scott's Prometheus has just launched a viral promotion that features Guy Pearce as a man very familiar to fans of the Alien film series: Peter Weyland.
You can check out video inside of Weyland's speech given at the 2023 TED Conference (an annual convention dedicated to human innovation currently happening in Long Beach, California) and visit www.weylandindustries.com to check out a future that has been built on his words and an explanation of the title Prometheus.
The official bio for Weyland reads as follows...
Prometheus has not even graced the screen yet and, already, sequel rumblings have begun. Shock has been privy to some of this talk, hearing that the film is actually a two-parter and, should the movie do well, we might see more pre-Alien goodness unfold in theaters. Now, director Ridley Scott is fanning the rumor mill flames.
Here, I'll answer that headline for you: Of course you do!
The latest image takes you back into that bizarre chamber we've seen in the Prometheus trailer and other pics - the set with the giant head and "urn"-looking shapes resting on the floor. Go on, you want to see it, I know you do...
Oh, trailer mash-ups. You know how I feel about them (especially if you follow our Twitter feed), and I can get occassionally grumpy about the subject, but some of you out there will likely groove to this. One of the team members at Crave - our big papa site - recently created a trailer called Lion King Rises, which combined, you guessed it, The Lion King and The Dark Knight Rises.
This time, they have dished out a combo of WALL-E and Prometheus entitled WALL-ETHEUS. And yeah, it works...
20th Century Fox has released, through USA Today, a brand new still from Ridley Scott's Prometheus, starring Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, Logan Marshall-Green and Patrick Wilson.
The sci-fi thriller, opening June 8th, takes a team of scientists and explorers on a thrilling journey that will test their physical and mental limits and strand them on a distant world, where they will discover the answers to our most profound questions and to life's ultimate mystery.
After seeing the trailer for Prometheus, you have to wonder who will be the sole survivor - or at least one of the survivors - of the film. And something, for me, keeps pointing to Charlize Theron. My gut keeps telling me that, although I have no evidence. Next to star Noomi Rapace, you see Theron's character hauling ass away from the space ship (seen in Alien) that's crashing at the end of the trailer. Perhaps she survives the whole ordeal?
Okay, enough speculation... Theron spoke with Total Film about her character, explaining her part in it all.
You knew it was coming. The final piece of the preview puzzle is here. The third teaser for the upcoming trailer debut of Prometheus. Yes, the damn trailer leaked already, but what you don't get is Ridley Scott talking about the film...which is what the teaser inside offers. Of course, the moment the official release of the trailer strikes, we'll bring it to you.
While you all wait for a proper release of the Prometheus trailer - sorry, folks, not running the bootleg (it just keeps getting pulled) - a new image from Ridley Scott's anticipated sci-fi epic is here, featuring "hot actor of the moment" Michael Fassbender.
