Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance

Friday, February 17, 2012

Years after being merged with the demon Zarathos in a deal with the Devil, Johnny Blaze (Nicolas Cage) is trying to lose himself in Eastern Europe when he encounters a gypsy named Nadya (Violante Placido) and her young son Danny (Fergus Riordan) being chased by a group of mercenaries led by Carrigan (Johnny Whitworth), who is acting as the right hand man of someone named Rourke (Ciaran Hinds), who just happens to be The Devil who turned Blaze into Ghost Rider in the first place.

To some, this follow-up to 2007's Ghost Rider, one of the pre-Dark Knight pre-Iron Man guard of bad superhero movies, may fall into the "why did they make this?" realm of unwarranted sequels, not that we would ever want to fully throw the two-headed directing team of Neveldine/Taylor under the bus, as they've proven themselves to be quite clever at times, the type of ballsy and daring filmmakers Hollywood desperately needs.

Interview With Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance Directors Neveldine/Taylor

Monday, February 13, 2012

After writing and directing two Crank movies and the sci-fi flick Gamer, directors (Mark) Neveldine and (Brian) Taylor finally got around to tackling an established property with Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, a film that brings Nicolas Cage back into the role of Johnny Blaze, but also has him portraying the biker from hell, the demon Zarathos aka Ghost Rider!

Taking place years after the earlier Ghost Rider movie, Blaze is now riding around Eastern Europe still plagued by the presence of Zarathos in his life but along comes a gypsy named Nadya (Violante Placido) and her son Danny who are on the run from The Devil (in the guise of Ciaran Hinds) and his mercenary henchman Carrigan (Johnny Whitworth), so Blaze is convinced by a motorcycle-riding monk named Moreau (Idris Elba) to help them.

The resulting movie includes all the action and craziness we've come to expect from a Neveldine/Taylor movie transposed into the supernatural world of the Ghost Rider comics.

Interviews: Idris Elba and Ciaran Hinds Tackle the Spirit of Vengeance

Thursday, January 05, 2012

ShockTillYouDrop's companion site SuperHeroHype had a chance to visit the Bucharest, Romania set of Mark Neveldine and Bryan Taylor's Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance - you can read their report here - and they've shared two of the interviews conducted on set with us.

As with the 2007 movie Ghost Rider, the new film is based on the popular Marvel Comics character and once again stars Nicolas Cage as Johnny Blaze, a biker possessed by the spirit of a vengeful demon named Zarathos, which turns him into the flaming-skulled Ghost Rider. In this movie, which isn't necessarily a "sequel," Blaze is part of a group of people trying to get their hands on a young boy named Danny Ketch (Fergus Riordan) who may in fact be the son of the Devil, and Blaze makes it his job to protect Danny.

ShockTillYouDrop has interviews with one of Ghost Rider's new allies, the bike-riding monk Moreau played by Idris Elba, and Ciarán Hinds, who plays a new nemesis named Roarke, although he's essentially another incarnation of The Devil, a character who has played a large part in the Ghost Rider's journey. Both actors have experience with supernatural possession, having appeared in The Unborn and The Rite respectively.
