Shooting has officially commenced on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the film's director, Matt Reeves, has revealed a new image from the New Orleans set.

Vulture recently talked to actress Judy Greer - best known for her role as Kitty on Arrested Development and movies like Alexander Payne's The Descendants - and she gave them the scoop that she will be joining Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, portraying Cornelia, the chimp previously played by Devyn Dalton in the original Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes casting is moving right along. Earlier this week, we learned Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) was going to star. Now, Deadline reports Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman) is joining the cast.
This will re-team the young actor with his Let Me In (pictured) director Matt Reeves who is taking the helm of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel.

Shooting begins this spring on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - a sequel to the hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes - and The Hollywood Reporter scored the first casting news, as well as some intriguing plot details.
The site reports Jason Clarke of Zero Dark Thirty and Lawless will star in the film directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield). There's no word yet as to who he will play.

When Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives in theaters May 23, 2014, it may be without Rise of the Planet of the Apes star James Franco.
The actor spoke to MTV about the sequel and when asked if he was going to return, he responded, "I was going to be a small part of the next one. There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct."
He went on to detail how he might have appeared in the sequel.

20th Century Fox has signed Mark Bomback to rewrite the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.
The script was previously worked on by Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. Matt Reeves is slated to direct the franchise sequel, continuing the events depicted in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
That film was directed by Rupert Wyatt and earned an impressive $481.8 million worldwide on a budget of $93 million.

Matt Reeves - the director of Cloverfield and Let Me In - was revealed last week as one of the names on a short list of directors Fox was looking at for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. A director short list for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hit the web last night, via Deadline, and it features some of the usual suspects. Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Ruper Wyatt reportedly bowed out of the sequel not long ago, leaving Fox to find a new helmer.

It appears Twentieth Century Fox has a name for its sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.
Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2014. Rupert Wyatt, who helmed the 2011 smash, returns to direct. The returning producers are Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
