Dawn of the Planet of the Apes

Shooting has officially commenced on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and the film's director, Matt Reeves, has revealed a new image from the New Orleans set.

Featuring Andy Serkis in his motion capture suit, as Caeser on a horse, it would appear he's stumbled upon some humans. Check it out below! Directed by Matt Reeves with a script from Scott Z. Vulture recently talked to actress Judy Greer - best known for her role as Kitty on Arrested Development and movies like Alexander Payne's The Descendants - and she gave them the scoop that she will be joining Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, portraying Cornelia, the chimp previously played by Devyn Dalton in the original Rise of the Planet of the Apes. 

"Dawn" is the sequel to the blockbuster Rise of the Planet of the Apes with Cloverfield director Matt Reeves taking over the helming duties and Andy Serkis returning in the performance-capture role of Caesar, joined by Jason Clarke, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Gary Oldman and Keri Russell. 

Keri Russell - star of FX's The Americans and Dark Skies - has taken a role in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  She'll join Jason Clarke, Gary Oldman, Andy Serkis and Kodi-Smit McPhee.

Set 15 years after the events of Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Dawn finds most of humanity wiped out and the intelligent apes ruling over the world. Part of the film's focus is said to be on a small group of San Francisco-based scientists that are forming a resistance against the apes and part follows Serkis' Caesar as he, like his namesake, tries to maintain order and power within his new civilization. 

Things are really ramping up for Matt Reeves' upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. In addition to the returning Andy Serkis, recent reports name Jason Clarke and Kodi Smit-McPhee as two of the sequel's principal cast. Now, our brothers at ComingSoon.net has learned exclusively that Gary Oldman will be boarding the project as the leader of a human colony!

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes casting is moving right along.  Earlier this week, we learned Jason Clarke (Zero Dark Thirty) was going to star.  Now, Deadline reports Kodi  Smit-McPhee (Let Me In, ParaNorman) is joining the cast.

This will re-team the young actor with his Let Me In (pictured) director Matt Reeves who is taking the helm of the Rise of the Planet of the Apes sequel.

Shooting begins this spring on Dawn of the Planet of the Apes - a sequel to the hit Rise of the Planet of the Apes - and The Hollywood Reporter scored the first casting news, as well as some intriguing plot details.

The site reports Jason Clarke of Zero Dark Thirty and Lawless will star in the film directed by Matt Reeves (Let Me In, Cloverfield).  There's no word yet as to who he will play.

When Dawn of the Planet of the Apes arrives in theaters May 23, 2014, it may be without Rise of the Planet of the Apes star James Franco.  

The actor spoke to MTV about the sequel and when asked if he was going to return, he responded, "I was going to be a small part of the next one. There was a moment when Rupert Wyatt was going to direct the second one. A lot of the human characters that were in the first movie were dead in the sequel that Rupert was going to direct."

He went on to detail how he might have appeared in the sequel.

There's this little movie coming out called The Hobbit, so that means Andy Serkis, reprising his role as Gollum, is back on the press circuit.  That also means there will be some chatter about Serkis' involvement in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, the sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

20th Century Fox has signed Mark Bomback to rewrite the upcoming Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, says a story at The Hollywood Reporter.

The script was previously worked on by Scott Z. Burns, Amanda Silver and Rick Jaffa. Matt Reeves is slated to direct the franchise sequel, continuing the events depicted in 2011's Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

That film was directed by Rupert Wyatt and earned an impressive $481.8 million worldwide on a budget of $93 million. 

Matt Reeves - the director of Cloverfield and Let Me In - was revealed last week as one of the names on a short list of directors Fox was looking at for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.  ComingSoon.net is reporting today that Reeves has scored the job and will be tackling the sequel that is due in theaters May 23, 2014.

A director short list for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes hit the web last night, via Deadline, and it features some of the usual suspects.  Rise of the Planet of the Apes director Ruper Wyatt reportedly bowed out of the sequel not long ago, leaving Fox to find a new helmer.

According to the site, Matt Reeves, J Blakeson, Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, Jeff Nichols and Guillermo del Toro.

The Fringe is a place where non-horror genre films can get some play on Shock.  These films might be sci-fi, fantasy or action - and certainly contain some horror elements - but will likely be light on scares, or, straight-up "horror."  Still, they might be of interest to you.

It appears Twentieth Century Fox has a name for its sequel to Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes is set to hit theaters on May 23, 2014.  Rupert Wyatt, who helmed the 2011 smash, returns to direct. The returning producers are Peter Chernin, Dylan Clark, Rick Jaffa and Amanda Silver.
