Carrie Remake Bumped Out of Spring, Moved to October
Ryan Turek
Wednesday, January 02, 2013
You will know her name...later this year.
Screen Gems has bumped the Carrie remake - starring Chloe Moretz - out of its March 15th release slot. The film is now slated to open on October 18th. So, for those that cry, "Horror movies should come out in October!" Well, you've got one more to look forward to. October is already populated by The Devil's Rapture and Paranormal Activity 5.
I'm curious as to why there was a shift. Hopefully, director Kimberly Peirce can address this soon. I've heard positive responses from a recent test screening. Perhaps it needs more time to complete post-production, tinker around or pull off the FX? Or to stay out of the Oz the Great and Powerful's wake (it opens a week prior)? Or all of the above.

A New Photo from Carrie is All Fire and Blood

Last week, we were granted our first official look at Chloe Moretz as Carrie White in next year's Carrie remake. It seems the studio was very eager to show everyone what she looked like covered in pig's blood.
Director Kimberly Peirce took to Facebook this afternoon to share her own photo from the production which is currently shooting in Toronto. I wonder, is a teaser trailer going to drop on us this Halloween season?
The remake stars Moretz, Julianne Moore and Judy Greer. Head inside for a larger look at this image which is clearly from the prom massacre sequence.

First Official Look at a Bloody Chloe Moretz as Carrie, Julianne Moore as Margaret
Ryan Turek
Wednesday, August 22, 2012
Next year will see the release of Carrie, a new take on the Stephen King novel of the same name. Filling the shoes of Carrie White: Chloe Moretz, who will be joined on screen by Julianne Moore as Margaret White.
Entertainment Weekly has revealed the first official photos of this duo in the film. And yes, we're already getting a shot of a bloody Carrie White because, why not, right? Screw mystery. I mean, why tease us and give us a normal shot of Carrie when you can deliver a look at the pig's blood-covered teen? That's what we want to see... (Feel my sarcasm?)
Moore looks like a natural as Margaret and we've never had a problem with that casting choice. Moretz I'm very hopeful for. Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday, Gabriella Wilde and Ansel Elgort also star.
The film, directed by Kimberly Peirce, is expected to hit March 15, 2013.

Chloe Moretz and Gabriella Wilde - as Carrie and Sue, respectively - are featured in the scene which is set poolside. As you'll see on the film slate, the director of photography is Steve Yedlin - he shot May (another misfit tale), the forthcoming Looper, Toolbox Murders and Brick.
Kimberly Peirce is directing the Stephen King adaptation up in Toronto as we speak. Julianne Moore, Judy Greer, Portia Doubleday and Ansel Elgort also star.

This Friday, the young talent joins forces with director Tim Burton in Dark Shadows, playing Carolyn Stoddard alongside a cast that includes Johnny Depp, Eva Green, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote and Gulliver McGrath.
What's more, she's gearing up to play the leading role in Carrie, Kimberly Peirce's upcoming re-adaptation of Stephen King's very first novel.

Exclusive: Sissy Spacek Thrilled by Potential for a New Carrie
Edward Douglas
Friday, May 04, 2012
There are maybe a dozen classic horror films that fans would probably never want to see touched or remade including The Exorcist and Stanley Kubrick's The Shining. Brian de Palma's adaptation of Stephen King's Carrie, which introduced many to actress Sissy Spacek, has been transposed into other formats over the years, but no one's dared to make another theatrical film until now.
Horror fans may have been slightly unsure how to feel when MGM announced they were remaking De Palma's classic, even with the great casting of actresses like Chloe Moretz (Let Me In) and Julianne Moore tackling the roles of Carrie and her ultra-religious mother, and a stong female director like Kimberly Peirce at the helm, maybe because they're so used to beloved horror classics being ruined whenever someone tries to update them.
Sissy Spacek has been in New York doing press for her terrific new memoir "My Extraordinary Ordinary Life" and when Shock's companion site ComingSoon.net had a chance to interview her, they asked how she felt about them remaking a movie that still holds up quite well over 35 years since its initial release.
EXCL: Chloe Moretz Offers a Carrie Update
Silas Lesnick
Saturday, April 28, 2012
Already a familiar talent to horror fans for her vampiric turn in Matt Reeves' Let Me In, Chloe Moretz teams with director Tim Burton for the ucpoming Dark Shadows and ShockTillYouDrop.com had a chance to speak with the young star. We'll have the full interview available soon, but we also got a few details about Moretz's upcoming role as the titular Carrie in Kimberly Peirce's big screen remake.
"I start that June 1st," says Moretz. "...It's going to be very well done. I don't want to jinx it, but [Peirce] is a genius, genius, genius director. I would never do it with someone that I don't trust. I trust her more than a lot of the directors I've worked with. She's the right woman for the job."
Carrie Remake Found Footage? Raimi Circling Poltergeist?
Ryan Turek
Friday, April 27, 2012
MGM top dog Roger Birnbaum was on hand to speak to the film students at the University of Denver and he dropped two interesting pieces of information about a pair of projects in the works at the studio. Movies.com gathered up the intelligence from Reddit - sooooo take with a grain of salt.
Birnbaum let slip that the upcoming Carrie remake, directed by Kimberly Peirce, will incorporate elements of "found footage." That's pretty easy to digest.
Over the next year, we're going to be seeing a lot of films that "inject" a bit of a found footage narrative without wholly embracing the storytelling technique (Chernobyl Diaries, for instance). The original Stephen King novel also incorporated a recount of Carrie's antics, which - if I recall - the made-for-TV film starring Angelis Bettis embraced. So, could you say that the new Carrie is riding a fad? Not really.
On a side-note regarding the film, Deadline says MGM has officially offered the role of Carrie's mom to Julianne Moore. Both Moore and Jodie Foster have always been frontrunners.
Kimberly Peirce Making Carrie Relevant for Today
Ryan Turek
Monday, April 16, 2012
Not long ago, I took to Shock's Twitter account and wondered if Kimberly Peirce's upcoming remake of Carrie would embrace the current anti-bullying wave that's being felt in the media.
The movie is the ultimate anti-bully tale, of course, with a misfit lashing out with her telekinetic abilities at her fellow high school classmates. It's certainly thematically relevent for sure, and Peirce agrees.
The director of Boys Don't Cry took to Facebook page recently to talk about her redo, which is scheduled to hit theaters March 15, 2013 with Chloe Moretz playing the titular character.

Okay, I'll take the bait. A fan poster for the Carrie remake has attracted the attention of Kimberly Peirce, the director of said remake. It Looks Like Chloe Moretz is the Next Carrie
Ryan Turek
Tuesday, March 27, 2012
Last Friday, the role of Carrie White in the remake of Stephen King's Carrie was down to two actresses: Chloe Moretz and Haley Bennett. This update was followed by Deadline's report that Moretz - seen in this summer's Dark Shadows - was officially offered the lead.
An offer is an offer, however, and nothing is solid until the talent says, "yes."
Well, it looks like Moretz agreed. She took to her Twitter account to say, "Never been so happy in my life! Thank you Kim Pierce and thank u MGM for the chance of a lifetime i will never forget!"
Kimberly Peirce (Boys Don't Cry) is helming the redo for Screen Gems and MGM.
Carrie Remake Close to a Director, And It's Not a Bad Choice

Have you forgotten that Hollywood had plans for yet another take on Stephen King's Carrie? Don't fret if you did. We've tried to, but it's our job to keep our finger on the pulse of what's brewing in development and the Carrie remake is most certainly alive, a director is circling the project and...it might actually be a good fit.
Kimberly Peirce is in talks to helm the redo for MGM/Screen Gems. The latter company gave us the somewhat recent remakes The Stepfather and Prom Night.
