Shock Interview: Sharni Vinson of Bait 3D

Friday, September 14, 2012
There's a good chance Sharni Vinson could kick your ass. No, I'm serious. Although this Australian actress also starred in Step Up 3D, Shock Till You Drop was first introduced to her in You're Next, the festival darling that is not due to hit theaters until August 2012. In that film, her character has a few surprises up her sleeve. It turns out, she can hold her own against a handful of bad guys quite well. The same could be said for her turn in Bait 3D, just swap out "bad guys" and toss in a great white shark or two and you'll find Vinson back in survivalist mode once again.
But back to that ass kicking. Her early days found her dancing and swimming - a real pro athelete growing up. Then the acting bug hit and she began to use her physicality in films like the aforementioned Step Up sequel and Blue Crush 2 until the horror genre came a-knockin'. Now, with both Bait 3D and You're Next under her belt, Vinson is moving on to the Patrick remake, expected to roll cameras this fall.
Shock spoke with Vinson about her "fun" time on Bait 3D, the "sharks in a supermarket" thriller hitting DVD/Blu-ray September 18th. Head inside for our chat!
Shock Interview: Bait 3D Director Kimble Rendall
Ryan Turek
Wednesday, September 12, 2012
The last time Australian filmmaker Kimble Rendall was at the helm of a feature-length horror film was the 2000 slasher film Cut, which featured the likes of Molly Ringwald and Kylie Minogue. But make no mistake, he's been quite busy since then working as a second unit director on films like The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions, I, Robot, Ghostrider and Underworld: Rise of the Lycans.
Rendall is combining his experience in body count horror and high-caliber action fare with Bait 3D, his super fun sophomore feature outing in the director's chair opening September 14th in limited release and coming to DVD/Blu-ray September 18th.
Starring Sharni Vinson, Julian McMahon, Xavier Samuel, Alex Russell and Phoebe Tonkin, the film concerns a supermarket that is flooded after a tsunami and the remaining survivors who are trapped inside with two great white sharks.
After the jump, read our discussion with Rendall in which he talks about overcoming the usual tropes that come with this kind of nature-run-amok action, the challenges of shooting in a flooded market set, his next horror outing and more.
