Regina King (Southland) and Melanie Merkosky are set to join the cast of The Strain. Guillermo del Toro is directing the pilot for The Strain which kicks off next July.
According to Deadline, King is playing Ruby Wain “the smart and accomplished manager of philandering rock star Gabriel Bolivar.” Merkosky will play Sean Astin’s wife on the show.
The Strain, a new FX series based on the novel by Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, was teased last night during the mid-season finale of The Walking Dead. Did any one pick up on that right away? Not likely. The promo featured “found footage” accounts of rats. The first shot shows a couple dining outdoors until they spot rats scurrying about by a sewer grate. Another shot finds a batch of rats running through the hallway what looks like a City Hall.
David Bradley has been cast in the role of “Professor Abraham Setrakian” in the FX drama series The Strain. The role was formerly filled by John Hurt.
The series was recently picked up for a full order from FX and spearheaded by Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan and writer/producer Carlton Cuse.
In The Strain, “Setrakian” is a holocaust survivor who immigrated to the United States after World War II and now runs a pawn shop in Spanish Harlem.
FX has placed a 13-episode order for the drama series The Strain from Guillermo del Toro, author Chuck Hogan and writer/producer Carlton Cuse, which is based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy of the same title written by del Toro and Hogan.
When we spoke to Cuse back during Comic-Con, he hinted that FX felt confident enough to take the pilot to series.
The Strain begins production later this month in Toronto and the series is scheduled to premiere in July of 2014 on FX.
The cast of The Strain continues to expand. TVLine reports Leslie Hope (24) is joining the pilot episode of the potential FX series.
Guillermo del Toro is helming the first episode.
The site reports Hope will play Joan Luss, the survivor of a vampiric outbreak that threatens the world.
When you head into theaters to check out Pacific Rim, remember Robert Maillet’s face because you’ll be seeing him in another Guillermo del Toro-directed project: The Strain.
In Pacific Rim, he plays one of the pilots that operates the Jaeger known as Cherno Alpha. You may have also seen him in Monster Brawl or 300. For The Strain – Del Toro’s pilot for FX based on the film of the same name – Maillet is going to play an ancient vampire.
Executive producer Carlton Cuse has announced on Twitter that Sean Astin (The Lord of the Rings) has joined the cast of FX’s The Strain, the pilot based on the best-selling vampire novel trilogy from Guillermo del Toro and author Chuck Hogan. Astin joins the previously-announced Corey Stoll, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Richard Sammel, Lauren Lee Smith, Jonathan Hyde, Miguel Gomez, and John Hurt.
The Strain is a high-concept thriller that tells the story of Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll), the head of the Center for Disease Control Canary Team in New York City.
For the first time in 20 years, Guillermo del Toro is returning to the small screen to shoot the pilot for The Strain, based on the novel by Del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Leading the cast of this tale concerning a viral outbreak of vampirism is Corey Stoll, Kevin Durand, Mia Maestro, Richard Sammel, John Hurt, Lauren Lee Smith, Jonathan Hyde and Miguel Gomez.
According to Del Toro, who spoke to Shock in a one-on-one interview at the Pacific Rim press day, The Strain is “a very expensive pilot and proposal.”
“I haven’t done TV in 20 years. I started on TV with Alfonso (Cuaron) – we used to do half hour in two days with one camera. The schedule for [Strain] is the 20th of what I’m used to, so for a 48 year old running [laughs] that’s the only part I find daunting,” he said.
