The infamous Riddick has been left for dead on a sun-scorched planet that appears to be lifeless.  Soon, however, he finds himself fighting for survival against alien predators more lethal than any human he’s encountered.  The only way off is for Riddick to activate an emergency beacon and alert mercenaries who rapidly descend to the planet in search of their bounty.

The first ship to arrive carries a new breed of merc, more lethal and violent, while the second is captained by a man whose pursuit of Riddick is more personal.  With time running out and a storm on the horizon that no one could survive, his hunters won’t leave the planet without Riddick’s head as their trophy.

Vin Diesel: Universal Wants Another Riddick Film
Riddick proved to be a positive experience and success for Universal. The film grossed nearly a $100 million worldwide (on a reported $38 million budget), but apparently it’s cleaning up nicely on VOD/DVD/Blu-ray. Vin Diesel, star of the series, took to Facebook to do a little happy dance about this and leave a message for his fans. In this video, he recounts the problems the third film in the David Twohy-directed series faced to get made – from raising funds to fighting for an R-rating. In spite of that entry’s struggle, it came out on top and Diesel says he received a call from Universal to congratulate him on the film’s success.

Review: Riddick
There’s a lot to like about Riddick, the third film in the sci-fi/creature-heavy series.  And if you’re a big fan of Pitch Black, I think you’re going to dig this back-to-the-basics entry which eschews the galactic melodrama of The Chronicles of Riddick in favor of a rather simple man versus nature, man versus himself and man versus man story told on a budget with a lot of ambition. There’s an interesting “throwback” nature to the film that extends well beyond the flavor of an ’90s action flick – a comparison you can instantly reach for.  But there’s also the air of a Roger Corman-produced sci-fi film surrounding Riddick that is undeniable in its tone, production value and monstrous threats.

Shock Video: Vin Diesel and Katee Sackhoff on Riddick’s Return to the Screen!
Over ten years ago, a sci-fi creature feature called Pitch Black snuck up on everyone and offered a refreshing, clever take on the genre and introduced the world to a new antihero: Richard B. Riddick, opening this Friday, decidedly returns to the series’ roots for the third entry, finding Riddick stranded on a planet and battling its various inhabitants as well as two groups of bounty hunters. ShockTillyouDrop.com sat down with Diesel, who returns to star and produce the film, and co-star Katee Sackhoff.  We discussed the new shades of Riddick’s personality seen in the film, why the character has endured, Diesel’s creative involvement when he’s not in front of the camera and, of course, we talk about the monsters on display.  Head inside for the interview!
