Focus Features, Entertainment One, Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions and Blumhouse Productions announced today that Insidious: Chapter 3 has begun production in Los Angeles – and with this announcement comes the first image.
Leigh Whannell, co-creator of the terrifying horror franchise, is writing and directing the new movie. To commemorate the start of production of the series’ newest chapter, Focus is launching a sweepstakes on the official Insidious Facebook and Twitter pages.

Deliver Us from Evil opened at the start of the 4th of July holiday weekend. To date, it has grossed $15 million since opening Wednesday, July 2nd, but box office analysts are focusing their targets on the film’s $9.5 million weekend gross and taking fire. Understandable. That’s a pretty weak weekend performance. It was up against the new comedy Tammy and holdovers likes Transformers, 22 Jump Street and How to Train Your Dragon. If you recall, Deliver Us from Evil was pushed up from its original 2015 release date because Sony was so confident in the film that it thought Deliver could earn some big bucks akin to The Conjuring’s mid-summer success last year.

Director James Wan – who has been busy at work on Fast & Furious 7 – teased via Twitter recently that a director for Insidious Chapter 3 had been found and he was eager to share the news. If you’re surprised that Wan himself isn’t directing, don’t be. The man has a tentpole film to complete and Blumhouse Productions – the producer of the Insidious series – wants the third installment of its successful supernatural franchise in theaters April 3, 2015.
Today, Wan broke the news – again, on Twitter – that Leigh Whannell, writer and co-star of the Insidious movies, will direct Insidious Chapter 3.
