Through some test screening information that was presented to the public, we have learned that the grizzly bear thriller formerly called Red Machine has been picked up by Open Road Films. The company previously had great success with another man-versus-nature pic last year, The Grey.
Further, it appears Red Machine is getting a new title: Endangered. No release date has been set.
Starring James Marsden, Thomas Jane, Scott Glenn, Piper Perabo and Billy Bob Thornton, the film focuses on a deputy whose mission is protecting the threatened grizzly bear suddenly finds himself conflicted when a massive rogue grizzly wreaks havoc on a local Alaskan community.
One project we haven’t heard about in a bit is Red Machine, the man-versus-nature thriller directed by David Hackl (Saw V) and starring James Marsden, Piper Perabo, Thomas Jane, Billy Bob Thornton, Scott Glenn, Kelly Curran, Michaela McManus and Adam Beach. While we await release plans for the film (we’re told it has found a home and is awaiting a release date), let’s turn our attention to Thornton’s official site where the man explains the film in his own word…
Shooting has begun on Red Machine, the story of two couples who venture into the wild and are pursued by an unrelenting bear. The film sees Saw V’s David Hackl sitting in the director’s seat again. James Marsden, Piper Perabo, Thomas Jane and Billy Bob Thornton topline the cast. More actors have joined the cast, hit the jump to see who else is in the thriller.
If you thought Hollywood’s latest “man versus nature” outing, Red Machine, was going to be fueled solely by an all-male cast, think again.
Deadline reports Piper Perabo (Carriers, Looper) will take a role as ”a deaf photographer who is engaged to Beckett (Jane), whom she met during the Iraq War.”
Beckett is played by Thomas Jane (The Mist); his co-stars include James Marsden and Billy Bob Thornton. There is one more role to be filled by another actress.
We’ll just cut right to the chase here: Thomas Jane, Billy Bob Thornton and James Marsen have been cast in Red Machine, a classic man versus nature tale that pits the trio against one pissed off grizzly. Jack Reher penned the script and Saw 5 director David Hackl is sitting at the helm.
