Marcus Nispel Pursues Two Original Projects

Fresh from Crystal Lake, where he was bringing Jason Voorhees to life in the upcoming Friday the 13th, director Marcus Nispel informed the press this weekend that he's ready to turn to something original next.

"There's a movie that I'm interested in. A great movie about cloning, it's called Immaculate Conception," the German director said. "A girl gets pregnant, doesn't know why. You think it goes like Rosemary's Baby but it's not a horror movie, though. You find out that she's part of an experiment. A splinter group of the church found a rusty old nail in the hills of Golgotha and they've harvested the DNA they believe is from Jesus Christ. It's like Marathon Man or Coma."

Also on Nispel's slate, a film idea he's been nurturing for a bit now that has been recently been dubbed Pod. "It's dealing with a huge fascination of mine - the seven sub-levels under Manhattan. When they dig deep they find something they shouldn't have."

In addition to Friday the 13th Nispel has also directed The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Pathfinder and the telefilm Frankenstein.

Those...sound...very...original. God, and Hollywood makes them sound very hard to do.

"Original?" Same crap different paper bag...

PATHFINDER was an "original" and that sucked worse than most remakes. Nispel has some neat ideas, for example he keeps bringing up how much he loves Joel Peter Witkin's photographs and wants to make a film in that style but so far he hasn't delivered anything remotely that artistic. At least he doesn't shy away from the red stuff, eh? Speaking of which, Herr Nispel, where's my uncut TCM (2003)?

They both sound interesting but i think his style would work more with the "Pod" one.

His PATHFINDER was NOT original. It was a remake of a 1987 Norwegian film

"Immaculate Conception" Does not sound original. It sounds like a movie ripped off from many others. Blessed, being one of them (Heather Graham), which was pretty much the same concept.

Oh my God, you guys really are pathetic. NOTHING sounds original. Of course, everything is borrowed from something. What Nispel is talking about are things that are not remakes or sequels. You guys will find anything to ***** about, remakes or original scripts - you're damned if you do, damned if you don't.

It seems again that people don't understand what Immaculate Conception refers to. Regardless, it sounds a little interesting, especially if it's more similar in tone to something like Coma.

Uh, yes, I said "original." Am I wrong for thinking such things? Compared to the sequels/prequels, superhero movies, adaptations, remakes, and spoof movies out there, I will very well darn think these must be some of the most original concepts I've ever heard of so don't mock me!

"The Dark Knight" is a superhero movie, "Curious Case" was based on a short story, "Milk" was based on a man's life, "Doubt" was based on a play, "Revolutionary Road" and "The Reader" both are based on even more books, "The Wrestler" is based on another book, "Slumdog Millionaire" is based on another book, "Twilight" is based on a best selling book. Do you want me to go on? I think I've made my point.
