Release Month for Friday the 13th 4-6 DVDs

Source:Ryan Rotten, Managing Editor
January 6, 2009

Following up on yesterday's report, we have now learned Paramount is planning on releasing those special editions of Friday the 13th of parts four through six this June. That's not too long of a wait, I suspected they would have arrived in the fall. It is likely that Paramount's timing the release of these discs to coincide with the DVD bow of the new Friday the 13th film. Also, there are rumblings that Friday the 13th Part VII: The New Blood and Friday the 13th Part VIII: Jason Takes Manhattan special editions may not be far behind. We'll keep you posted.

So when are they releasing them on blu-ray?

Every installment, uncut, its a dream come true. Except for 8, what the hell kind of special features will go with Jason Takes Manhattan? Who would want to do that fan commentary? Are there more scenes of Jason walking around NY, where for some reason he doesn't feel like killing anyone? Is there an extended version of the rocker chick getting beat down with her guitar? I can go on forever.

If they are not being released on Blu-ray i guess i'll be passing on this.

Jud,
I, and a lot of other people, would love to do a commentary track for Part 8. I'm just not sure that the studio would want to hear what we have to say about it. I definitely think they would have to come up with a new name for the commentary tracks. I don't think "fan" commentary would work.

If all we get is fan commentaries, then there is no reason for these. Hopefully better features will be disclosed in the future. Cut footage, either integrated back in or as a bonus would be phenomenal, especially for part 7, which as it stands now, is simply abysmal. I never liked the supernatural b.s. began in 6, that's when it just became a joke, but 6 is okay for what it is, which is silly fun. Part VIII is lame, but kind of fun in that "bad is good if you mock it" way. JGTH may as well be deleted from existence. 1-3 when viewed as one story arc are still the best. 4 isn't bad, but leaves me with a bad taste because Tommy is a lame character and no way to bring about the "end" of Jason. Part 5 gets a bad rap. It's not great, but an interesting way to try something new and is enjoyable as a little horror movie that tried.

There was around 20min of footage cut of Friday the 13th part 8 and even though its a bad film i would still love to see the deleted scenes. I hope they put some care into theses future release though because the special editions of Friday the 13th parts 2 and 3 are really not that good, bar the 3d gimmick on the 3rd film there is nothing else.

PART 2 NOTHING really new (like uncut footage, PLEASE! i love part 2 the most!), and while part 3 DOES have the 3D restored, i wonder how/if it will work on a tv with the glasses.

wow! fantastic! but...where the hell are the blu-ray?????????

Posted by: John on January 7, 2009 at 15:27:38

With the exception of Part 1, the uncut footage doesn't exist for most of these films. Don't get your hopes up people.

Should I buy 1 - 6 this year or wait for a possible box set???

Posted by: heat on January 7, 2009 at 17:44:41

Part 7 is supposed to have a crap ton of deleted scenes. The first box set shows a lot gorrier deaths

Posted by: John on January 7, 2009 at 19:13:27

That's true. However they exist on a 20 year old VHS tape that the director has. As far as anyone knows, the original negatives are lost.

Even if cut footage, because of quality or deteriation, can't be reinstated back into the film, it would still make one heck of a great bonus feature. We all scream for it, they all know we want it, foreign countries get it, but we just end up with the same old nothing. I hope I'll be wrong and some awesome features will be disclosed later, but as a first taste, this "news" has me thanking my lucky stars I have a region free player. I would absolutely buy a Region 1 disc if it came with features worth it, but I'm not replacing my old discs just because new cover art is used. Heh. Remember when things like bonus features didn't even exist? If this is all I have to complain about, then life is good. ;)

ha ha....paramount releasing these in "special edition"? NO WAY IN HELL!!!

Do you really want to buy these films once more just for a couple of interviews and a comentary track? I shure will not! These versions will be the same r-rated butchered **** thats been floating around for ages! Dont hold your breath!
