That's disgusting.

Yes! this better be good...

In the real ending of The Descent she doesn't escape from the cave. Only in the ***** American version...
This is stupid...and it looks like they don't bother to keep the creatures mostly in the shadows in this one, which will certainly ruin their effectiveness.
Just another ****ty sequel...
Why did Shock not mention the original ending of the movie?
Sarah was screwed! No one would have found her! She was DEAD MEAT!

The American DVD version she does not escape from the cave, which I thought was WAY better than the original ending. This film looks awesome, I cannot fricking wait!

I like how the creatures don't look very much like the ones in the original (which if I recall were pretty much blind) and the original girl is not only alive but GOING BACK?! Uh, wha? She KNOWS there are no survivors: she either saw them die, set them up TO die, or the other living characters told her someone died... before they themselves died. Besides, for as much as I like the (UK version of the) movie, does this really beg for a sequel?
Posted by: Bouncy X on January 6, 2009 at 06:52:32
well we never see her actually die in either version so this isnt an impossible return like other sequels. sure you wonder why she would go back regardless if there might be survivors but these sorta movies always do this.
as far as someone saying you see the creatures too well, you gotta realize these are stills and dont always reflect what the final movie will look like as far as lighting is concerned. we probably see them so well due to the camera flashes.
i'm sure we'll see them more just because its a sequel and has to be "bigger and badder" but i doubt they will be crystal clear all the time like those photos.

i do agree that the original UK Ending didn't leave any room for a sequel, so i guess here i'm just looking for a decent scare movie, which it seems to look like that so far. hope for the best, expect the worst, as some brits always say.

This movie has no right to exist as it is. I'm not some film snob saying there shouldn't ever be a sequel, but the basic premise for this movie (that she not only somehow survived absolute doom in the original's perfect ending or that she doesn't damn well know that everyone's already dead) is ludicrous at best.
If you're gonna make a sequel you could at least have a new pack of spelunkers to kill off.

looks like a load of b*llocks to me.

If she survived or not; the plot seems far too much like ALIENS. "Survivor returns to scene of crime confront her fears and help the rescue team". I loved the first film and will probably enjoy the second too, but I wish American cinema would take a few more risks and not do scripts on-the-cheap

The Descent: Part Two is going to be sick. I can't wait for Lionsgate Films to come up with the official release date. The first movie was really good but I think Shauna is going to really make this sequel kicka$$.The new cave creatures look so much better than the first and this movie looks more bloody and suspenseful too. This movie will probably release in the U.S.; either during this summer or early fall.

"well we never see her actually die in either version so this isnt an impossible return like other sequels." - precisely, I thought the second just picks up with her in the cave and crawling her way to daylight. I'm a 'wait and see' on this but I loved Watkins' 'Eden Lake'.
Posted by: platinumtlc on January 6, 2009 at 13:07:59
i liked the US version. I don't understand why people wanted her to DIE and have no survivors at all. That's just sick. What kind of person are you to not even have 1 person survive?...

JFMJJ88 posted this over at the IMDB discussion board for "Eden Lake" (go to http://www.imdb.com/rg/title-tease/boards-subject/title/tt1020530/board/nest/121929980 for the thread). It provides an excellent explanation of why the Euro/Unrated ending of "The Descent" is superior:
"More than anything, 'The Descent' is about Sarah's (the main character's) emotional and psychological response to the death of her daughter. Her 'descent' begins when her daughter dies (note that that the title does not come up until Sarah is in the hospital and realizes her daughter is dead). Going deeper and deeper into the cave can be understood metaphorically as the 'descent' of Sarah's mind. The obstacle she has to overcome is not so much the creatures who are trying to kill her, but her daughter's death. Ultimately, she is stuck in the cave with her dead daughter, having descended beyond sanity."
The movie was about Sarah's attempt to cope with the death of her daughter. The true horror of the film was that her daughter had died. She couldn't move beyond that event and was forever "stuck" in the "cave." The piece of crap American ending totally undermines all of that.

I was pissed when Shauna stabbed her friend and set her up for death. And I loved that she was still stuck at the end.
But I truthfully thought it was all in her mind and that she was in a coma since the car accident from the beginning of the 1st movie.

I am just excited for the action and horror aspect of this film, the first was great, i just cant wait to see what they can come up with this time around.

this film is gonna have something.
Posted by: Dudeman on January 6, 2009 at 16:32:14
This flick kinda looks good in the same way that my testicles look like the black guy from the original Dawn of the Dead, if that makes any sense.
It should make sense, unless you're gay, which you probably are.
Posted by: Mulciber on January 6, 2009 at 18:08:53
I think this could be interesting. But will have to wait and see... as for the ending. Her Medications was starting to ware off and she was seeing things. Or what we saw at the end of the movie was either what she was seeing or what was really going on? she was making her own escape and yet we really didn't know if she did or not we did not see her DIE!!! wait and see if it tells the truth on how she escsapes
Posted by: KIA on January 6, 2009 at 22:00:29
Mulciber: Sarah's daughter is dead. There is no escape. That's the whole film, right there. A sequel is completely inappropriate, and can't offer us any "truth" about the first one which, unlike this bastard sequel, was written and directed by Neil Marshall.
Posted by: Haywood on January 7, 2009 at 11:46:43
they should have made it a search and rescue party going to find them like 2 days later, then maybe they could find sarah alive in there...or maybe not.
Posted by: Harmoni on January 7, 2009 at 15:13:23
Loved The Descent and from the looks of the stills, they will give us more of the predator in the movie which is the only problem I had with the first one. I'm ready for it! Thought the first one was really good. Since we didn't see ol' girl actually die, I'm curious at which point they will pick the film up at. Can't wait to see. :-)
Posted by: Horror Lover on January 7, 2009 at 17:28:54
Ugh ! A sequel ? I had trouble getting through the lameness of the first one. Now there's going to be a sequel ? Count me out. It was all I could do to keep from screaming at the tv, when the one idiot screams out "Hello ! Is anybody there ?" Yeah, you so deserved to die stupid.
Posted by: Joe on January 8, 2009 at 01:50:49
Horror Lover is an idiot because the first Descent was sick and there was no cheesiness to it thus the reason why it made so much money and garnered a sequel. I saw the behind the scenes on youtube (Sarah's not the only survivor). Check it out guys, this movie is going to be faithful to the first one and Neil Marshall is producing so, don't go off these ****ty stills. And they are ****ty.
Posted by: Jeffrey on January 8, 2009 at 18:38:33
Joe,
How can this be faithful to the first one? The first one ended with Sarah having a mental break and being stuck in the cave. This film CLEARLY follows the American ending, not the international (and in America, the unrated) ending. At best, it might be faithful to the aesthetic of the first film. I think many fans would rather it be faithful to the STORY of the first, which it isn't.
