Not surprised they changed the title. That said, there's more to the film than just Crowley - a bit too much more in fact, which is part of what lets it down. Still, worth a look. Check out my review -

Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law.

So you know where I'm coming from right away. Simon Callow's acting, his "caricatures" of Aleister Crowley and Oliver Haddo (name stolen from William Somerset Maugham's little known book THE MAGICIAN)was amusing, but if one is looking for the REAL Aleister Crowley, or any explanation or semblance of genuine Thelemic philisophy, the movie CROWLEY is not the place to find them. It is sheer sensationalistic crap, absurd, too talky in places, so over the top that it makes a witty and amusing Ken Russell film look like a documentary by comparison, catering to bad mannered adolescent minds who find amusement in cheap bathroom humour. As for the plot ... wait ... did it have one? The story is a tissue thin piece of rubbish that loosely ties together all of the tabloid lies still told to this day about A.C. and sophomoric glorification of urination, defecation, and sexual as well as intellectual and philosophical perversion. Interestingly, the film is what is truly "perverted", not the man whose life and teachings it perverted. To put it succinctly, I didn't like the movie CROWLEY. Not as much because I am a devoted Thelemite, but because I love movies and this one simply insulted my intelligence, was tasteless in the extreme, and frankly it was intensely boring and idiotic.

On a positive note: the redheaded actress was pretty cute!

Love is the law, love under will.
