Producer Mark Burg (the
Saw franchise) spoke with me about the future of Twisted Pictures last night on the red carpet of the Scream Awards. Filming has wrapped on
The Tortured,
Saw V hits theaters next week and
Saw VI is on track for next year. But is there anything else? Burg hesitated to answer but gave ShockTillYouDrop.com a morsel of info to chew on.
"The deal is not signed yet, but there is another franchise that Twisted Pictures is partnering with Richard Saperstein and Brett Ratner for a remake," Burg said. So I tossed out my theory on which film he was referring to:
Mother's Day, the remake of Charles Kaufman's cult film we first alerted you to in August.
"Yes," confirmed Burg.
"But it's not official because there a lot of deals that need to be closed to make it happen." Then the producer teased,
"There's a director coming down the carpet who I think may be doing it."
Sure enough,
Repo! The Genetic Opera's Darren Bousman followed. When pressed for details about his new project, he wasn't so quick to spill the goods like Burg.
"I can say we're very close, within an inch, to a deal in working with Twisted again," said Bousman.
"This movie will piss off everyone. It's going to be the most disturbing thing I've done yet. I can give you a hit it's something I've been trying to do for a long time. This movie will offend everyone and I'm going to put Alexa [Vega] in it."
Shock has also learned
P2 helmer Franck Khalfoun is no longer attached as writer as previously reported.

I hope this deal goes sour. This sucks. We don't need another Platinum Dunes making more crappy re-makes.

If you're going to remake a movie, remake one that sucks. Mother's Day is that movie. And if you don't like remakes or sequels don't watch them you slave.
