Ah crap! Dark Shadows would have been super great! I love the old show.

I have to agree, It really sucks. It would have been cool to see a proper update to the old show. The old show rocked.

I agree - he's prolly just doing this cause of his US$60 pay-day for Pirates 4+. whatever happened to the Johnny Depp we knew and loved that just accepted quirky challenging roles like Scissorhands and Dean Corso? Pirates 3 was garbage and I don't think i want to waste admission price on Johnny stumbling around like an idiot with sunstroke like in the last three films. yawn.

Actually, according to this interview with Tim Burton (http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/herocomplex/2008/10/tim-burton-talk.html) that was posted on the LA Times' Web site yesterday and which has also been making the rounds of other Web sites, Depp's Dark Shadows movie is not dead and Burton, in his own words, is "definitely" interested in it.
Also, Depp's supposed $56M salary for a 4th Pirates movie was debunked here: http://bigpicture.fancast.com/2008/10/rumor_debunked_johnny_depps_56.html

Sorry you feel the way you do about POC 3 or any of the pirates films. But I think Mr Depp is wise and knows the only reason my family now picks goes to some of his other moives and is because of Jack Sparrow. He is loved now in our family from child to grandmother. To be honest before Pirates we didn't know who he was. I think he does those films for fans like us. I understand the darker side of him, but it is nice he stops to make movies for the lighter side of life and something even our preteen can love. You know he has childen and he might be making movies so they can attend... just a thought...

I think this may not be a set back. Burton did not rule out filming DS after Alice. He does not seems to reveal anything about movies in development which he may direct. I still remain optimistic that DS will soon see the light of day again.

I hope Depp and Burton do Dark Shadows next after Alice!

Not sure I totally agree with KanameKuran's comment. How much quirkier a character can you get besides Johnny Depp's Captain Jack Sparrow? His role was the only thing palatable and entertaining in an otherwise dismal and boring series of movies. Depp is one of those actors who is able to totally lose himself in a role such as Daniel Day Lewis and Sean Penn. I'm looking forward to seeing what he does with the Mad Hatter and even more so with Barnabus Collins.
