Sorority Row Remake Lands Director & Cast

September 10, 2008

Principal photography is slated to begin October 6th in Pittsburgh on Sorority Row, the remake of Mark Rosman's 1983 The House on Sorority Row.

Summit Entertainment has tapped Stewart Hendler to direct. Briana Evigan (Step Up 2: The Streets, Fear Itself) and Rumer Willis (The House Bunny) will star.

Hendler helmed Whisper, the evil tyke flick starring Lost's Josh Holloway in 2006 (released direct-to-DVD in 2007). The new Sorority Row is written by Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger.

Stolberg writes, via his blog, that Prom Night's success had Summit execs developing Sorority for the PG-13 crowd. Needless to say, cooler heads prevailed:

"Summit changed their minds and we are full-steam ahead on the R-rated version," Stolberg writes. "I can't tell you what a relief this is from a creative sense. Everything is going back in. As I've mentioned before, we're not out to make torture porn and this still isn't going to be an explicit exploitation picture - but it's nice to be able to write a horror movie the way it should be."

If you live in the Pittsburgh area and would like to be in a horror movie, the production's casting office is looking for extras. Click here for more details!

no, we are not making a torture porn, just raping and killing girls for the joy of a teenage audience.

I'd suggest watching Hatchet Live on the Frightfest.co.uk site. Adam Green talks about how he was offered this and turned it down quoting "no one saw this the first time." That guy is my hero.

Will the prank in this remake be the same prank that was in the original? Also, news of this entering production makes me wonder what'll be next for remaking. Graduation Day? Happy Birthday to Me? Splatter University?
