I hope this happens, we have been let down so many times in the past.
They need to watch Ghostbusters a lot and then see what made that film a legend and apply that to the next film, but not the carbon copy method of Ghostbusters 2 which was just poor.

I'm a Ghostbusters FANATIC & though I'm beyond excited about another GB film, it almost feels like it's 10 years too late. It's possible that this picture could reinvigorate the franchise for a new generation, but it's possible it could do that AND lose that original 'feel-good' mystique which made the two movies & the Real Ghostbusters series stand apart from anything else in the industry at that time. I mean, we connected with Aykroyd, Hudson, Ramis, & Murray on a level that extended far beyond cheap cinematic laughs. Even with all the ghoulish antics, their entire world felt like this was REAL LIFE unfolding before your eyes!
Back in the day, it wasn't just the surface visual effects & comedy that drove the GB franchise (like many CGI-bloodbath movies do nowadays). Even in the original animated series, it was a certain vibe & chemistry between everyone/everything on screen that was noticeably abscent by the time the Extreme Ghostbusters series hit in 1998--which by the way I HATED!
In the first GB era, everyone involved with Ghostbusters was cognizant of how much of a HUGE contribution the film would be to pop culture. In that respect, they pulled from various cultural elements of the 80's [but not too much] & it's that attention to detail that made the GB franchise uniquely individual & TIMELESS! It was a combination of the music (Elmer Bernstein's AMAZING score & the catchy driving pop attitude of Ray Parker Jr.'s theme & other soundtrack favs), the culture, the art direction, & REAL laughs that launched the Ghostbusters into the social conciousness. It was literally a MOVEMENT! I'm praying this film doesn't just amalgamate into the mainstream shenanigans of today's 80's remakes & pseudo sci-fi movies. With Ramis & Aykroyd still on the writing staff, one can only hope they'll keep in mind that sense of genuineness & relatability among the newer characters.
The BEST move for true fans would be to have the ORIGINAL guys back in primetime thoughout the entire film! (not likely to happen though)

I like that idea about judd apatow's band etc....since akroyd was already a legend in SNL and bill murray was a king of comedy it seems why not keep that formula. Maybe we'll see Seth Rogen and Will Ferrel....and jonah hill to replace rick moranis's charceter hehhhehaha

Why do most people seem to hate on GB2 so much? It wasn't that bad...
"HE IS VIGO! YOU ARE LIKE THE BUZZING OF FLYS TO HIM!"

hell yeah get a third one out!!!!!!

Well the original 4 can't just go back into costume, I mean there old. Harrison Ford did it because he had some left in him for some more action, he was fine with it. But the Ghostbusters didn't put themselves into tip top shape they just did the movie. They certainley let themselves go. Look at Bill, Dan, EVEN RAMIS! All 4 let themselves go. Now recruiting new Ghostbusters would be better but let them be the base of the film, like mentors. It makes alot more sense then to have the original 4 be back in the saddle at a very old & stale slate. I personally would like them to have the proton packs on and the jump suits but when it comes to the way they look, It's going to be pretty hard to capture that. Either way I will still see it first day at 10 AM if I have to see a Ghostbusters movie on the screen, including a brand new storyline as a trilogy. Hopefully they don't pull Rambo 4 & call it just GHOSTBUSTERS, that would be gay.

Actually the 4 originals are in pretty decent shape currently. Murray is just very old looking, dan is a bit fatter but could easily loose a few pounds by the time film would start, harold yea he did get very fat since gb2 but recently lost alot of weight and is in good shape, hudson is the only one that is in the best shape out of the 4. So really it all counts on what role the originals will play in the film and all that. Best way to go about it is to do the story where they are retiring and hire a new crew to take over. The film could start out they try busting a ghost and get hurt and decide to stop, they hire a new crew and egon stays around to help them out, where then the others go back to a normal life. Then the bulk of the film will be about the antics the new crew gets into. Then come to the end and we get the big bad ghostie for the film and the new crew cant handle it alone so the ask for the originals to come back and help them out one last time and there we go.

i seriously cannot wait for this long awaited sequel. i seriously hope the original guys do justice to what they've created.

Ben Stiller
Owen wilson
Brandon T. Jackson
Bill Heder
and maybe
Vince Vaughn
I think they should do it, we are ready, we always said hell no to Ghostbusters 3 becuase Ghostbusters 2 was very bad, but now I guess we are hungry for more and I hope we can see the old cast playing with the new cast.
Posted by: Doctor Splatten on September 8, 2008 at 11:27:46
I figured if there was going to be a "Ghostbusters 3" at this point, the film would feature the original cast as "mentors" to a new crew. With Ramis and co. working alongside a guy like Apatow, there's a good chance it could be worthy of the first movie. If the original cast wasn't involved and/or anybody other than Apatow doing this, I would say "No!" But please, Mr. Ramis, let that be the last time the project is referred to as "GB3" (I've read the e-mail in it's entirety). Don't try to make the movie hip- just make it great!

I read the new sequel. will be 3-D animated.
Dan Akroyd has already written a script for the movie.

Unless the script is written by Aykroyd and Ramis and unless Reitman and the whole cast is back and they put their hearts into it, THIS MOVIE WILL SUCK.
I don't want to see hammed preformances by the "new" comedy all-stars. Rogen, Ferrell, Carrell, Stiller, Vince Vaughn, won't do it for me. I love these guys in their own movies but they're no good for Ghostbusters. You'll lose the fundamental dryness that made the first two films so amazing. The beauty of the acting in GBs I and II was in the sarcastic subtlety. Subtlety that is glaringly LACKING from all these recent comedy actors' performances.
I can see the plot revolving around Oscar Barrett, now in college playing the reluctant Venkman role, and his band of friends excited about bringing the Ghostbusters back. With ghost busting illegal, Winston would play a role similar to the one he was originally supposed to play in the first film, building the kids and "Ecto-3" etc.
The actors should be more in the vein of Justin Long, Dule Hill and Zachary Levi than Will Ferrell and Owen Wilson.
I think the only other person that could direct this movie besides Reitman would be Alex Cox.
Also, it won't work unless everyone is miserable in the beginning. I while ago I talked to a Ghostbusters fan who had a fundamental misunderstanding of the second film and wished it started with the still-in-business Ghostbusters coming off of the television cartoon. Can't imagine why.
Do I think it's possible for this movie to be good? Yes. Do I think it's likely that all the pieces will fall in together? Not particularly.
FYI all this coming from a ridiculously appreciative fan of the first two films.

I hate sequels!!! Is there no creativity left in this world? If it's about money then they would have better luck with something completely new. I like Dan Aykroyd and I hate to see him stoop to this.

Ugh! A GHOSTBUSTERS film with hack Judd Apatow's involvement just has disaster written all over it. :( Sony should have just let Aykroyd and Ramis write a new script.
Apatow/Seth Rogen = major fail

The second movie in my opinion was really funny. The only problem I have with the third one is a good, strong cast. Jack Black sounds pretty good. If they're going to have a new cast-I wish they won't though-I think they should have Jon Heder and Rainn Wilson. I love Napolean Dynamite and The Office.
Seth Rogen?! NO WAY!!!!
He doesn't know what comedy means!!!!!

I have seen both Ghostbusters movies so many times i know every single line in those movies. The first is one of my all time favorite movies and even though some people don't really like the second, it doesnt bother me that much, i think it's a pretty good sequel. I only hope this has that same response for me.

the only way ghostbusters won't fail is if Apatow is involved. Judd has made some of the most memorable and profitable comedies in the last 5 years....murray, ramis, and co. haven barely been in a movie in the past 10 years.....you guys all cry about apatow/rogen, but that didn't stop you whining f****ts from paying to see 40 year-old virgin, Knocked-up, super bad, and pineapple express.
trust me...nobody wants to watch 4 fat out of shape (and work) actors try to re-hash a movie from the 80's.....why not let some people who are connected with today's world take over? and let the old guys rot away in a nursing home where they belong
Posted by: Luis on March 29, 2009 at 20:03:25
I would have the newbies start the film, get the new feel going and then they get into trouble and the original 4 have to face their fears, put on the suits and save the world. I would have the last half hour bring so much nostalgia back that everyone in the theater would be jmping in their seat. If you handle it right with the young generation and the older ghostbuster hardcore fan base then the movie would have the capacity to break records. But is hollywood gonna do that? Probably not.

I've been a die since I was born (1984, in case anyone is wondering, which I'm sure they aren't) and the idea of another GB film absolutely blows my mind. If you watch the filmographies on the special features section of STRIPES, it states that Ramis and Murray were set to make GB3 in 1998. Funny.
