Update #2: WB Sending Trick 'r Treat to DVD?

Source:Moviesnob
August 21, 2008

Update #1: First, Dougherty dropped us a line to say this is "Not quite the whole story. Stay tuned!" Secondly, an insider informs us the film has resurfaced on Warner's schedule for '09. So, what's going on now? A possible limited theatrical release? More festival runs this October? We'll have to wait and see.

Update #2: New Yorkers, learn how you can see the film this October right here!

Since learning last week that there was an internal error at Warner Bros. that erroneously placed Michael Dougherty's "where the F is it?" horror anthology Trick 'r Treat on theatrical publicity sheets issued to us press folk, the search for the truth concerning its whereabouts began yet again.

A WB rep could not confirm or deny if it was still at the studio. Then, we spoke to an insider who assured us that, yes, it's still at the studio and any reports that it was being pawned off was a bunch of bunk.

Now, a trusted biz source writing in anonymously as "Moviesnob" says, "Just got an email. Warner is keeping Trick 'r Treat, but it's going direct-to-DVD."

Looking at Warner's recent success with DVD fare such as the Raw Feed series and Lost Boys: The Tribe, it doesn't sound like the strangest business maneuver on their part. Just an unfortunate one.

I was wondering when this would come out.

How VERY disappointing!!! Based on the trailer I saw all the way back when I bought '300' (the day it was released...this would have easliy been one of the BEST Halloween-themed movies at the box office. Especially when the Saw franchise is winding down and everyone's on the seemingly never ending remake craze!

BOO-HOO Warners. You'd think you raked in enough w/Dark Knight that every box office release doesn't need to be a blockbuster. This was made for the big screen- so why not put it on the big screen???

stinks it's not going in to theaters, but at least we'll be able to see it after all these (29 years has it been, it sure feels like it!LOL) years of waiting.

Posted by: InvisibleBiker on August 21, 2008 at 10:50:12

Ok let's just hope they don't release it on December 25TH.

Posted by: Ryan on August 21, 2008 at 10:51:43

that's very disappointing that It won't be in theaters for everyone to talk about, but on the other hand im happy it will be on dvd!!!!! It just goes to show you that hollywood does not want to show anything original anymore just whatever is "new and hip"

Finally. This sounds like an awesome movie. I am upset that it's not going to theaters, but at least WB's heads are out of their @sses enough to know that they need to release this.

I'm still not holding my breath for this to come out (in any form) this October. It's too close to Halloween and there hasn't been a formal announcement by Warner Bros. about a release date. By next year it'll be buried and forgotten. Damn shame.

Got an update, please see the story above.

Posted by: Saad on August 21, 2008 at 14:24:13

What?? Argh. This is getting ridiculous.

Posted by: Ryan Rotten on August 21, 2008 at 14:41:53

Here's my theory: Yes, it's going to DVD but not before getting some super-limited play on screens (through festivals and what not).

Posted by: MICAH on August 21, 2008 at 15:03:00

How long are they gonna make us wait for this ****in movie but i dont care if it come to dvd or limited screens i just want to see the the damn movie

Posted by: A_Porpoise42 on August 21, 2008 at 18:23:15

Booyah! I'm so on the list!

Posted by: mike on August 21, 2008 at 19:40:09

i would of loved to have seen this movie on the big screen, that's where it needs to be seen but either way ill own it when it comes out,

Posted by: Thunder on August 21, 2008 at 22:10:27

Ever since I saw the trailer for this movie I knew it was going to be straight to DVD. Even if it said it was going to theaters it looked too B movie-ish. Well, at least it's coming out.

Posted by: Mr. EE on August 22, 2008 at 02:27:04

Forget the bullchit "limited" release. Just put it out UNRATED like I know they will, on DVD. Why drag out the chit. They did this to MEAT TRAIN and now I have to wait even longer for the DVD. JUst stop the chit.

Next announcement: WB will be unloading T&T in budget theaters all around the country in October. You heard it here first.

I don't care any more, I'll pick up the DVD. Let's just see the damn movie.

Posted by: Steven Millan on August 22, 2008 at 16:47:40

No surprise there upon hearing that news(since Warners has held onto it for so long without plans for a monstrous release[which is now likely to happen on Straight-To-DVD land]).

Posted by: Idioteque... on August 22, 2008 at 18:01:47

I just emailed for free tickets to the screening of the movie in New York, I just hope they give my ticket is guaranteed instead of racing to get my ticket.

Posted by: nees on August 24, 2008 at 06:22:07

this is stupid. there's so many people who want to see this movie - it would make a lot in theaters if it's good.

Posted by: littlemsum on August 30, 2008 at 03:28:48

my family and i have been waiting to see the movie since they announced it in 2007! and now it might only come out on dvd, that really sucks! wb's always messing with the good **** they take all the good shows of the air and put or leave crappy one's on!

Posted by: Rob on October 10, 2008 at 17:21:12

so it IS going to dvd?

Posted by: kahla on April 21, 2009 at 22:57:02

What's a major Hollywood studio to do? Here it's been burdened with an original, entertaining, funny, intelligent horror movie. How can you possibly market that? Just because it's very limited screenings have generated such a massive buzz and interested all of us 'idiot' consumers, doesn't mean it deserves a theatrical release. We just 'think' we know what we want. Thanks Warner Bros. Really looking forward to Saw 6. I'm sure you'll be cramming that piece of crap down our throats this October. Any more remakes to look forward to?
