Selick on Nightmare Before Christmas Sequel
Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
August 17, 2008
In anticipation of the August 26th release of Disney's The Nightmare Before Christmas Collector's Edition DVD, director Henry Selick participated in an online discussion with Shock to talk about the film fifteen years later.Naturally, the talks turned to sequel possibilities of which Selick says, "There has been discussions over the years about a possible sequel. When those discussions came up about 7 years ago it was unsettling that it was suggested this time it would have to be done in CG. I'm glad that did not happen. But as far as coming up ideas for a sequel, you have to admit there are a lot of other great holidays for Jack Skellington to take over."
He adds that he has grown used to the idea of the film becomes a merchandising smash hit and is pleased the characters of Jack and Sally have captured an audience. "But this did not happen right away it has taken years for our initial cult audience to grow into a pop culture phenomenon. Just this past Halloween, we had some girls show up at the house in Nightmare Before Christmas costumes and my wife and I pointed out one of the original Jack Skellington and the Skellington Reindeer [puppets] which was in our office. It blew their minds and they screamed with joy, taking their handfuls of candy and went away just full of life."
Selick is six weeks away from completing the animation process on Coraline, a new dark fantasy feature film featuring the voices of Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Dawn French, Jennifer Saunders and Ian McShane.

So... you definitely think there should be a sequel?
Posted by: Sago on August 17, 2008 at 17:26:52

Screw the sequel! I want to know what the hell is wrong with Alexg46.

a nightmare before christmas sequel would be great but they need tim burton and jack should not take over another holiday. i think after that whole fiasco he would have learned his lesson. the new film should have another holiday icon coming to take over halloween now that would be a good sequel.

what the hell is alexg46 talking about??? O_O What does that have to do with a Nightmare sequel?
Well if their going to do a sequel, they better have all the cast and crew back so it could be successful ^_^

A sequel would be pretty cool but Jack should'nt try to take another holiday. They should come up with a different plot.

Yes! Make another movie! Not a sequel but a prequel. I want to see more Halloweentown. Let's see how badass Jack really is! Let's face it, we don't watch this movie at X-mas, we watch it at Halloween. If it is done right with Burton, Selick, and most importantly Danny Elfman then it will be a hit. I agree with the CG thing being wrong but they could do it with claymation added in. Only backgrounds and effects in CG.

Yes, I agree with Camille7777. The only problem is how do you bring in the much loved affair with Jack and Sally in a prequel. Maybe they were already in love and Doctor Finklestein erased their memories of love. I dunno, whatever just bring back Halloweentown, please!

They have to figure out the 3-d thing for Blu-ray so we can bring home the TNBC in 3-d.

i have been a fan ever since it came out in theaters forever ago. and i have watched all the new fads and fashions that came with the 10 year anniversary (which was basically to get a younger audience in to it) hot topic ruined most of that movie for me and i cant even watch it now with out ppl thinking im doing it because im "cool"
so please
No sequel!
and they can do jack taking over different holidays..
if you really think about it jack learned his lesson of taking over a holiday
there is a SONG in the movie about it!!!!
it shouldn't happen, a sequel would just make the franchise stale and flat...
but i would be interested in a short film about his next halloween he talked about at the end of the movie!
that would be a good idea to follow but not to deeply...

well people are till remembering the film and does deserve a follow up, but i will say this, ed wood never made a follow up of anything, cause really the only holiday the can go with is San valentine

I'm a great fan of the Pumpkin King but a sequel is really unesscarry....why ruin a good thing by making sequels (Land Before Time, Son Of The Mask, Ace Ventura Jr, The Mummies 2 and 3)

i will only like the sequel if:
1.Tim burton directs it.
2.make it look just like the first one (animation wise)
3.Same actors.
4.Shows in theaters
other then that, leave the classic alone.

I think a sequel would be cool but I agree that Tim Burton should direct it like the other and it be done in the animation that the first one was done to preserve its' heritage.

They already made a game to pick up where the movie left off.

I believe that if I should aver a sequel, nightmare is a great movie and I am a follower of her(it) since I was five years old, me the script of memory(report), though the second one divides out bad(wrong) for lack of ideas or any thing is all the same. If the first one is good it(she) is the one that is valued and if the people ask mas because not to give them mas histories. And though there is no a sequel so(then, since) that extract a cortometrage or any thing, the people will receive it with taste, and in case of great nightmare people

Actually Plan 9 from outer Space was the third of a trilogy.

i think a sequel would be fantastic, to see how jack and sally's relationship progresses and to see what crazy things jack might get upto (eg: something to do with a new holiday [not necessarily taking over it, it could be anything to do with it]. or an enemy interfering with how things are in halloweentown) if there is going to be a sequel, i think in order for people appreciate it as much as 'the nightmare before christmas' it would need to have the same surroundings/characters and the same type of animation.
i can see what people mean by not wanting a sequel, they just dont want a fantastic movie ruined or think that just the first was enough and that there was no need to expand on it.
well they dont HAVE to see the sequel, so i dont see why they should ruin the fun of the people that do want one. :D

I think they should make a sequel... I mean you hear about it at the end of the first one... And it would be an awesome movie if they did...
Posted by: Evie Coolen on December 14, 2009 at 18:09:04
This is my sequel:
1 the same characters
2 better songs
3 some new characters
4 jack and sally have a doughter [maybe more]
5 and it better have more action, romance, and drama.
They should do a dang sequel. I waited for my whole life for this! Tim Burton will never do any sequels for his movies. this is just like the corpse bride all over again!
