Scream 4, Piranha 3D Part of Showtime/Weinstein Deal

Source:ComingSoon.net
July 14, 2008

ComingSoon.net reports that Scream 4 and Piranha 3D are part of a new 7-year distribution deal that Showtime Networks and The Weinstein Company have signed:

The output deal also includes releases from Dimension Films such as "Youth In Revolt," based on C.D. Payne's bestselling book and starring Michael Cera, "6 Billion Dollar Man," the remake of David Cronenberg's "Scanners," re-starting the "Scream" franchise with "Scream 4," and "Piranha 3D."

This deal furthers the relationship between Showtime Networks and TWC's Dimension Films which began in 1997 with Showtime airing "Mimic," and "Scream 2."

Alexandre Aja's Piranha 3D has already been scheduled for a July 24, 2009 theatrical release, but no news has come in about the next "Scream" movie.

the Weinstein's are AWFUL at promoting/releasing their films!!! NOOOOOOOO! LOL. i'm really excited for Piranha 3D (& Scream 4 if done correctly). i hope the Weinstein's DON'T **** these up. but you know.....

Scream 4? Pass. Unless they either kill off Neve Campbell, or take the series into a completely different direction. Can't wait for Piranha 3D though.

The Chud i agree w/ you. Scream 4 NEEDS to go in a different direction totally! either that or it's going to come across as a total comedy NOT a horror movie. actually the Scream movies (IMO) are now almost caricatures of themselves.

i just hope they bring back the same people for scream 4 thats all i really care about.

i'm all for a halloween resurrection beginning for scream 4... kill sidney prescot off in the first 10 minutes of the movie... the only question is... who could have killed her... hmmm... how about a possibility that somehow stu survived having the tv dropped on is face... and found her, gale, and dewy... basicly kill everyone off with dewy being the last man standing in the series... and call it a wrap.

scream 4? Well only if Neve Campbell is the killer.....that`d be a good way to end the series

Scream 4? What else are they gonna do that hasn't been done before? Re-tar-ded.

aren't the self aware horror movie types over?

Posted by: JJ on July 14, 2008 at 22:32:15

Please don't do a Scream 4. Please just don't do it!

Restarting the Scream franchise? I guess it makes sense. Regardless of how much I enjoy the Scream trilogy, there isn't much story left to tell. I hope that by restarting, they don't mean remaking. I don't even think that hte Weinsteins are stupid enough to remake an American movie that is less than 20 years old.

Fox Mulder, do be so sure about the Weinsteins! LOL. they have a scary tendency to screw up their acquired films.

Posted by: djblack1313 on July 14, 2008 at 23:20:34

oops, i meant DON'T be so sure about the Weinsteins. LOL.

Well...I want to have a little faith that they won't completely screw up everything that they do.

well, let me tell u, SONY or COLUMBIA PICTURES have ruined a lot of original movies, THE FOG, PROM NIGHT, WHEN A STRANGER CALLS, among others...

and a lot of remakes and sequels are coming up next year.

- FRIDAY THE 13th
- MY BLOODY VALENTINE
- PIRANHA 3D
- FINAL DESTINATION 4
- SCREAM 4
- JEEPERS CREEPERS 3
- WRONG TURN 3
- SCANNERS
among a lot others...

so, Hollywood has no originality anymore :(

i agree with the no originality Fabricio ur right on that!!! but i can maybe stomach all but the friday and scream flicks coming out...they've done bout 2000 friday flicks so its not like a they need a remake to revive the legend or anything...lol
and ima big scream fan..but even the "brother/killer" plot in the third was strecthing it for me!!!

Fox Mulder, you're right. i guess i should try to have some faith in them too. it's just that they've really done some lousy things to movies i love. i guess we'll see! :)

All the Scream movies are awesome. The first one is a classic in the genre, hard for anyone to argue that, but I think there are a couple ways it could work with a sequel.

The whole "New Nightmare" spin doesn't really seem that great, and I'm not for Sydney being the killer either...her character would be much cooler like...idk, Tony Todd was in Final Destination, with a new group of kids dealing with a copycat...go back to the original one's style. The smaller group of friends, current music and pop culture references of our time.

If they really wanted an easy storyline, why not have one of the main characters, if not THE main character a younger sibling to one of the original characters? We're all a fan of Randy, and we saw his young sister already, maybe he had a younger brother in high school twelve years later...

Maybe the town starts to lean towards him as a suspect due to his connections to the original story when his friends start getting knocked off, maybe he starts to think he did it, they have a ton of ways they could take it...some would be good, some not so good, either way, we get a Scream 4 and that is good news...

Leave The Bionic Man alone!

Scream 4 will no doubt be PG-13. They don't make good horror flicks anymore, aiming for the "teenybopper" crowds. Bring on the blood and gore, and some real suspense Hollywood!!!
