Fuller Talks Rosemary's Baby Remake

Source:Ryan Rotten
June 9, 2008

While overseeing the final days of principal photography on Friday the 13th, Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller provided an update on another remake, Rosemary's Baby, which we exclusively broke the news about in March (details).

"If we don't do Rosemary's Baby someone else is," says Fuller. "They're not going to pass on that. Being horror fans like we are, we want to take the opportunity to take shot at it rather than read about someone else doing it. All the shit we get for doing these things, it really just comes from being huge fans and wanting to take a shot."

Currently, there are two are three screenwriters contending for the job. Fuller explains they are currently hearing a number of divergent takes on story. "You would say Rosemary's Baby supernatural story, so one of our takes is supernatural, the other is not supernatural. It takes that story and roots it in reality and that's going to be a decision that we're going to have to make soon as we wrap [Friday the 13th] and we go back to LA, and start sitting down with Paramount as to what kind of story do they want us to tell for them and what's the smartest way to tell that story."

The original Rosemary's Baby, directed by Roman Polanski, starred Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes. It was based on a novel by Ira Levin.

I hope someone out there begins ****ting on Hollywood exec's lawns to send them a message.

This remake business is out of control and us horror fans really need to start giving these guys some ideas. I mean I know it's hard to come up with storylines that appeal to a general audience but come on! Isn't this the producers and writers jobs? They do this for a living! We haven't seen all the ideas out there.

I know these remakes can never live up to the originals, but I think we should at least give them a shot. How many times has Dracula been done? How many different versions of Frankenstein have there been? Part of these characters proving they are worthy of being mentioned in the same breath as the great horror icons is their ability to be seen from different points of view. We have a new Freddy on the way, a new Pinhead, a new Jason. I say, good. Lets see what these new takes have to offer, if anything, and let these characters live on, as they deserve to.

While they're at it, why don't they just rewrite the Bible?!

Posted by: Truth on June 9, 2008 at 13:56:56

Actually, the Bible was already rewritten by King James. He added stuff and took out stuff he didn't like. That's why it's called the King James version of the Bible.

Somebody said as a solution to all this remake business to start giving Hollywood ideas. What we should actually do is STOP ****ING GOING!

Why do they keep remaking all these great movies and turing them into mediocre crap? Because they make butt loads of money.

We need to stop seeing these movies. Is Friday the 13th going to be any good? No. So don't go see it. Don't rent it. Stay at home and watch your freaking box set of the originals. I know you have it.

If a remake is done well then it's fine. Believe it or not most people don't watch older movies, which is a shame, but it's true. So these remakes will never replace the original, but the filmmakers aren't going for that. They are re-inventing something they loved for a new generation to fall in love with. Though unfortunately most remakes are forced and poorly made for a quick cheap buck. So far Platinum Dunes has made some good remakes so I'm willing to give this a shot...of course that might change when I actually see footage. For now, I'm in!

I can't wait for someone to remake SPIDERMAN 3 and a remake of last year's THE HITCHER.

Oh, and Transformers is prime for a remake as well.

They shouldn't mess with the original, it was perfect. You can't top Polanski so why even try?

Coming in 2010, the new Gone with the Wind. Only this time there will be drugs, nudity and lots of profanity. That's my prediction anyway.

ye know is hard to reimaging a movie this days. I mean from comics, the taste of comedic sarcasm, and action sometime work, but when is a little campy in the case of ghost-rider n daredevil, well it suck. For this movie they should go with more of a thriller tone, where specifically the music give the vibe of the suspense.

Brad: Who else is going to re-make "Baby" if you don't? Who? Tell us who you are saving us from.

You are the only person in the UNIVERSE that doesn't get it. The rest of us look at the movie and say, "That's one of those movies you don't need to re-make. It still great."

Any of us here would love to be where you are, but we'd actually do something GOOD with that power. Try making an original flick.

The best thing we can all do is let this tank like The Hitcher. Make it so Paramount won't do bussiness with them as it's not profitable.

You say you are a horror fan, Brad? Yeah. And so it Tipper Gore.

Someone PLEASE come up with an original idea...I'M BEGGIN YA!!!!!

Never seen the original, but like most things I know remakes are sledom ever better. So, the question is, why even bother? I wish movie making was what it used to be: the goal to make a classic, a film that will truly live on for generations to come in itself. But no... now movies are just made to make a quick buck (or millions of bucks) without any care or development in most cases. So to get this done quick, they just rip old movies apart because these producers need to pay their electric bill right, and sign some hack director who only wants a paycheck and some two bit actors who only care about a paycheck and people seeing their face rather than actually being any good at what you do. The end result of course is a piece of crap film that wasn't near as good as the original, and the only thing you've accomplished is to make the current generation think how bad and ridiculous this is and then they will never watch the original, and that once great original piece of art has now fallen into the shadows of mediocrity. Pat yourselves on the back hollywood.

I have to agree with most of these posts. occassionally you do get a decent remake, but it just does not deliver that punch it did the first time around. Relax, take a deep breath, sit in your favorite chair, and write out an entirely original story. After that, give it to a friend and ask them if they would spend millions of dollars to make it a movie, and if people would love it. If the answer is yes, go ahead. If the answer is no, go back to your damn chair and think up something else!

i have to agree with Yormomsayshi, they keep making remakes because the previous one got tons of money, so of course studios are going to do the obvious, "hey, we gots monies!..lets do anohter, and then get lotsuh monies! then we can buy a pool, and fill it with all the monies we made from pissing off horror fanatics and remaking more movies for the monies!!"

Down with paying to see these horrible films, up with downloading them illegally and then deleting them on account of suck. point being, stop with the remakes, stop giving them what they want. we has horror fans must unite and burn hollywood down, and shove a fire cracker in michael bay's mullet! (he'll think it's a hat.)
