I F***ing knew it. After finishing the first movie I said, how long before Hollywood would eventually remake this. Guess WHAT! Their at it again. When they had the special screening on May 20 thru 21 I went to one of them it was a packed and after that I was like "Uh-oh,remake".

I really want to check out this movie. I saw a brief bit and it looks fantastic, but a Hollywood remake is a terrible sounding idea. Then again...when does a remake of a Japanese film ever sound good? They will always be terrible and a disgrace to the originals.

My greatest fear lies in the setting. Death Note has such a complex story, and so little of it has ANYTHING to do with America. I really hope they don't suddenly make Light Yagami into Lance Yeller, a kid in New York or something...keep the location of the series in Japan at the very least. After that, Hollywood could be free to inevitably rape the hell out of something else I adore.

Death Note is a brilliant series, and can be very lucrative indeed if someone decided to put a little effort into a remake.

Yesss!! I've seen the Japanese movies, and they're terrible. True, Hollywood has been known to rape Japanese movies in the past, but really, how could anything Hollywood does be WORSE than the original movies?? Yes, the manga and anime are awesome, and those CAN be raped by a Hollywood movie, but even so...IF this is done correctly, this movie could be awesome too, and bring in many, many new fans. Which we all know "Death Note" deserves.

I'm not at all surprised to hear this (if this is true at all, that is). They're making an Avatar: Airbender movie, and though that's not technically anime as it's American, it's modeled on anime. If it's successful - but you never know, M. Night whatever is directing it and could easily screw it up - then I predict there'll be a number of other anime-type movies in its wake, much like "Harry Potter" and "The Lord of the Rings" started a trend of fantasy movies.

I'm also worried about the location. They should keep it in Japan, not re-locate it to the states. And I'm worried about what they're gonna do with the word "Kira". It can be seen - by idiots who don't know the original version - as a promotion of the stereotype of Engrish-speaking Japanese. Yet they can't really translate the term either: you can't simply call the killer "killer" throughout the whole movie. So what would/will they do?

This could go one of two ways. It could be utterly brilliant or it could be a catastrophe. Depends completely on the people making the thing.

just as long as they get someone who'll follow the actual story close enough and not **** it up like the Japanese version of the film is ****ed up. It looks so cheesy and so bad and they could do so much better. Opening up with Ryuk in the first place. This one is gonna be difficult for many a fanboy.

The live action Death note movie SUCKED!! it was trash!!. The way the manga ended was anti climactic and I cant wait for the american remake it should be 1000 times better than the one Japan put out. The only saving grace was Ryuk, i paid to see it in theatres and now i will down load the other two movies from japan because it was a waste of money

I'm not against remake but do we really need this. The Japanese movies are great as it is eventhough the ending differ from the manga. And most American remake just sucks big time.

Harry Potter written in Japanese gets written out as Ha-ri Po-ta. Ki-ra is the same thing, the closest match to the word Killer in the Japanese alphabet(s). R and L are sorta interchangable which is why L uses the occassional alias like Ryuuzaki.

I love the original Japanese Death Note film, even though the film disappointed many of Manga Death Note fans. It's true.
But, will Hollywood-remake satisfy Manga fans? I doubt it.
Better not to compare the movie and Manga, and so as the original and remake.

I mean, I've heard of the Japanese live-action movie, and I really want to see it (Me and my friend were supposed to go on May 21...we forgot and cried the next day.) I heard the live-action L was really good, so that was the only reason I wanted to see it. But I'm a hard-core fan of Death Note, and a near-psychotic L fangirl, so if they screw this up at all, I'll probably walk out of the theatre (So yes, I'm still going to see it)

Hollywood style movies aren't bad but, they always, F**k-up on the settings and the ppl.

Like they put some asian guy/gal in there for no reason to make that they're supporting the minorities, which is so lame.

If a person in the movie is supposed to be a Japanese, use a Japanese, if a person is supposed to be a korean, use a korean, etc.

Asians typically don't like to get mixed-up from one another, like how other nationality ppl think also. If a person thinks about Japan, Korea, and China, they're all different, from people, how they think, culture, faces, and now even how they polute.

Anyway, if Hollywood can make a movie that can satisfy the manga and the original movie fans, then it will be great, but I doubt it.

Honestly if they could re-make the death note movie I would go watch it. But I would love them forever if they added Mello, Near, and Matt in. I mean the Japanese movie's plot is already screwed up (Why can't they just stick to the VERY popular manga...) so if by some freak chance they happen to stick more to the manga, I would follow the movie loyaly and see it as many time as budget allows. Butttt that's very unlikely as it's a remake of a movie that doesn't have it so their's a 99% chance it will basicly stick to Japanese script.

The live-action Japanese films were mildly entertaining, but I was a little disappointed with a few things:

1) The MAJOR story changes. Where the hell are Matt, Mello, Near, and Mikami!? And what about the Yotsuba arc!?

2) The "star" of the whole movie. Fujiwara Tatsuya (Yagami Light) was completely wrong for this part! Light is enthusiastic, charming, and good-looking! Fujiwara is boring and ugly!! (However, I think that Matsuyama Kenichi (L) was perfect! He definitely nailed his character! And he's just so hot!! Toda Erika (Amane Misa) did a good job too! She's so cute^^)

3) The CGI (Ryuk and Rem). This isn't really anyone's fault; it's just that (unfortunately) the Japanese film industry doesn't have the big budget that Hollywood does.

That being said, I think that the US remake has the potential to be outstanding if:

1) The plot follows the MANGA! (Though this is unlikely ;_;)

2) The actors are well cast.

3) The script is well written.

I also think that, even though the original is set in Japan, the remake should be set in the States (unless they use an all Asian cast, but that's very unlikely.) because there's just something wrong about having a movie set in Asia when the whole cast is White-American!
