Darkstone Implements Plan 9

May 27, 2008

Does Ed Wood's Plan 9 from Outer Space need to be redone with a serious approach to it? Darkstone Entertainment's Joe Johnson seems to believe so. He's at work on the aptly-titled Plan 9, a remake to bow on September 9, 2009 to mark the 50th anniversary of Wood's film.

According to the official site: "The remake will be a serious-minded retelling of the original story, paying homage to the spirit of Wood's film without resorting to camp or parody. The film will focus on the horror and science fiction aspects of the original, but will also be largely character-driven."

Original Plan 9 alum Conrad Brooks is participating and seems to be okay with all of this (Why not when there's money involved?). Time will tell if this plan comes to fruition.

More details on the aforementioned official site.

That's certainly a much more interesting approach towards remaking a movie than 99% of the other regurgitations where some studio hack takes an established masterpiece and boils it down to PG-13 lowest common denominator multiplex nonsense.

It's been 50 years, so I give this way more validation than a movie that came out 20 years ago. Also, a different approach sounds good to me on Plan 9 because of all it's cult glory.

Just be glad it's not Michael Bay!

Seems pretty good, even though I actually did like the old one when I was a kid, I thinka brand new approace is needed. I think it could work out way better than expected. I think it could be good if done right though, which the director thinks HE KNOWS EXACTLY WHAT HE IS DOING, so I don't know yet.

As Johnny Depp said in Ed Wood:

"This is the one. This i the one I'll be remembered for."
