Variety reports producer Warren Zide (
Final Destination 4) has formed a pact with Parallel Media to make eight pictures (two a year) in the $4 million-$15 million range. Films made in this partnership will be made under the Parallel Zide production banner.
First in line for development is a comedy entitled
Demoted, following that, however, is the horror film
Bat Out of Hell, scripted by Drew McWeeny and Scott Swan. The pair previously penned the
Masters of Horror episodes
Cigarette Burns and
Pro-Life. They continue to dabble in the one-hour medium this summer in NBC's
Fear Itself (
details).
What's this blasted beast about?
Variety offers no hints. ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned a few details about the nature of the script. Insiders tell us the story is set on a red eye flight from Los Angeles to New York and something lurking in the cargo hold has a certain group of passengers concerned. The plot is said to put a new spin on a classic monster and "master of horror" is circling the script (you don't have to venture far to guess who it is based on the writers).
Warren Zide recently produced Adam Gierasch's directorial debut
Autopsy.

Something in the cargo hold of a plane... 'Bat out of Hell'... it's Dracula's first modern-day scene in 'The Monster Squad!!'
Heh. Well 'Cigarette Burns' and 'Pro-Life' were among the best Masters of Horror films, so I'm definitely interested to see what those guys can do at feature length.

NO NO NO! Don't say it, Matt, don't even think it, lest some lazy studio exec googles it and says, "hmm, well our research shows interest in a Monster Squad remake..." No! Monster Squad does NOT need to be remade!! The original holds up just fine, thank you. If they did it now Rudy couldn't smoke, Fat Kid couldn't weild a shotgun (and they probably wouldn't get away with calling him 'Fat Kid') and Phoebe wouldn't be allowed to say "don't be chicken****!"
Phew. Sorry, let me get down from my soapbox.
Anyway, 'Bat Out Of Hell.' Original horror. Sounds good. And no-one's made a Meat Loaf gag yet. Excellent.

"And no-one's made a Meat Loaf gag yet. Excellent."
You took the words right out of my mouth. I would do anything for a good joke (but I won't do that.)
Don't you look at me like that. I'll kill you if you don't come back. Now I'm all revved up with no place to go. Oh no it just won't quit! For crying out loud!
Meh this is more than you deserve.
