Cloverfield Alternate Ending Screen Shots

My, my, my... Paramount opened a can of words yesterday when press copies of the forthcoming
Cloverfield DVD arrived in mailboxes (including ours). Before we get into some of the new clues and viral marketing that have cropped up because of this release, let's take a quick look at the two alternate endings the disc presents.
SPOILERS AHEAD!
Both present the exact same ending with Rob and Beth whimpering in the tunnel before the bombs drop and nuke the monster.

Alternate ending #1 substitutes the ferris wheel coda for some footage on the subway platform featuring Rob chasing Beth around before their trip to Coney Island.

Alternate ending #2, as director Matt Reeves explains in his commentary, suggests that Rob and Beth may have been rescued and also gives the viewer a chance to see the moment the camera was found. Below you get a glimpse of a man cleaning Rob's camera lens post-destruction... Otherwise, no other new footage, per se.
Now, onto the speculation. A symbol (seen below) has been making the rounds on various
Cloverfield sites - including
Tagruato. This same symbol adorns the security sticker sealing the DVD and is accompanied by a "Property of the U.S. Government" stamp. What's it mean? Beats us. Is it simply one more layer to this film's secrets? It's obviously a sword of sorts - what does the "410" stand for? Release date for
Cloverfield 2, perhaps?

i paid to see this in the theaters and honestly it wasn't all that good. that friend that kept on talk like the entire movie was just plain annoying. i wanted to walk out on it just for that reason alone. the ending was below par. it wasn't suspenseful. the actors all-in-all were good but the movie itself was poor. it was very much so over hyped and under developed. the only redeeming quality about the movie was that the teaser trailer for the star trek movie. other than that this movie was particularly good, but also it wasn't the worst movie of all time either. that honor i bestowed upon Pootie Tang many years ago.

the symbol could be something concerning the company rob worked for

On the bottom right of the new picture on "http://www.1-18-08.com/" when flipped over the same "mysterious symbol" is present. FYI.

TheLuis - sorry, but ripping these from the DVD is illegal and we're sparing ourselves the "cease and desist" letters that would come from Paramount's lawyers.

if mr. hahn from linkin park directed this movie like he did with his short film "the seed" then perhaps this movie could've been saved, but then again they are out touring on the projekt revolution '08 tour so i'm sure he wouldn't stop for this flick.

well, I dont know if y'all watched the same movie as me....but Cloverfield, like everything else JJ has done, is over-hyped, sub-par bull****. i know all y'all pre-pubeys will all get your panties in a bunch now and rag on me, go ahead. You liked it, I didn't. The Host, p*sses all over cloverfield from a great height, hell, even the old godzilla movies do. People videoing everything...even while they're running under the monster's legs....yeah right. Is it from space? Is it a mutant? Does anyone care....I for 1, do not. Whoever told JJ he could direct or write (Lost...nuff said) needs tossing in the trash with this movie. IMHO, this was something not worthy of the cutting room floor. I mean, big monster that way, lets all run in the other direction. But as we're being filmed, lets run..TOWARDS the monster so we can film it.

In my humble opinion, the blurred numerals in this "teaser" pic symbolize either one of these things-the time code in the corner of a vid-cam's recording screen or a possible release date of some kind. It also seems definitely plausible to me that the blurred pic is an artistic rendering of the creature's claws grasping the side of a wall/building. In other words, "It IS alive."
A return-and therefore a sequel appears to be inevitable. Also, the wikipedia entry for this film and JJ's recurring "Slusho" references seem to support this inference.
Just my opinion though so take these things as you will. Good luck.-N.
