Uwe Boll Talks Latest Opus: Jail

Source:Movie Set
March 24, 2008

The auteur known as Uwe Boll continues on with his good work. His next? A thriller tentatively titled Jail. Inspired by true events, the story concerns the death of a prison inmate who was tortured and raped while incarcerated. Principal photography has begun with Edward Furlong leading the cast and longtime partner Dan Clarke producing. Steffen Mennekes (Bloodrayne 2), Sam Levinson (Bandits) and Shaun Sipos (Lost Boys: The Tribe) co-star.

A series of video interviews with Boll, along with some behind-the-scenes footage, are now up at Movie Set where the good doctor touches on the film's heavy subject matter, casting Furlong ("Was it difficult getting Edward Furlong?" I would think not) and more...

It sounds like Boll is trading in his horror hat for something more dramatic this time around. We'll keep you updated!

Ugh, i think it goes without saying..no good can come from this. As an aspiring screenwriter, and overall true lover of motion pictures, I cringe at the very thought that Uwe Boll still not only has a career in film, but still manages to often pull in true star quality into many of his pictures. I always try to have an optimistic and open mind when it comes to films I haven't yet seen..but when it concerns Mr. Boll..there is truely no hope. It speaks volumes of the once promising career of Edward Furlong that this is what he's working on these days. Oh well, thank god Ben Kingsley wasn't crazy enough to sign on to this as well.

Oh, and on a little side note. This is definately a bit of irony, Uwe Boll working on a project titled Jail, considering he just got busted in Germany for illegal tax sheltering...here's hoping he gets life with no possibilty of parole.

I agree with the both of you. Uwe Boll is the worst filmaker of our generation. He has killed some of the best video games as movie and Im glad he got caught with the tax sheltering. And to any more gamers that read this, you will be in for a shock.

If you heard of the Legacy of Kain game series(Raziel and Kain, vampires etc), I am the bearer of bad news when I say that he bought the rights to film the movie. If there are any fans of the game series, send letters, petitions, anything to stop this monster from killing this great game series. I dont ****ing care if he is a kickboxer, Ill take him in on in filming this series. I know that I can do it a hell lot better than him.

I hope he goes to jail and gets raped by a guy named molly

I hope he's "tortured and raped while incarcerated" then he'll know who we feel when we see his movies.

Please for the love of GOD donot let this man make another waste of time.

Oh God, I hope that Legacy of Kain thing isn't true. That would be even more tragic than him getting the rights to Castlevania.

LoK or Soul Reaver has the potential to be an amazing and smart series of films, but it will be nothing but forgotten drivel in the hands of Boll.

God, please say it ain't so!

I don't know what's truely sadder...the fact that Uwe Boll continues to be content in destroying gaming franchises threw pathetic film adaptations...or that studios and the creators of the games actually believe that he can do justice on screen to these titles.

I agree that i can only hope and pray he doesn't get Legacy of Kain going any time soon. We've seen what he can do with a vampire based video game franchise with BloodRayne.

Not only do his films still find backing, not only do they still manage to pull in quality talent (Ben Kingsley what the hell were you thinking)?!, but these studios actually sink a ton of cash into the marketing of these films. It's an unfortunate thing considering how many talented directors there are out there that have to kick and claw to get a movie to the screen and marketed well. However, we can all take solace in knowing that the majority of his films have been financed through his cash flow in Europe, and his recent tax sheltering bust in Germany has basically destroyed that. Here's hoping American studios wake up, look at the money his movies have made to date, and decide never to give this man a penny ever again.

What is this guy doing that other studios are still giving him a budget? Its because he is an icon of bad film making and he is so bad at making movies that people buy and rent out of curiosty. Look at it this way. He has a definate career in the Scary Movie Franchise. Rumours are going aroung that he got a " Dedicated to " mention at the end of meet the spartans.

"He has killed some of the best video games as movie"

I hope Bloodrayne isn't one of those games, because if you start with pure garbage, you can only make more garbage.

Although if he does indeed have the rights to Legacy of Kain, the BEST game franchise ever created, then it only reinforces my views that Eidos is a horrible company.

no no no please not legacy of kain. i only saw a clip of what he did to house of dead and i wanted to cry. i just hope to god that no studio anywhere EVER lets him make any more abomanations oh dear god no thats just not fair i mean that game franchise could have so much potential it has a realy deep and complex story line and would probably take a few moveis to explain it i just dont want to imagiane what boll would do to it

I remember when Uwe Boll challenged his critics to a boxing match. Now, think about this; what the hell does boxing have to do with making good or bad movies? The man is completely insane, which shows in the "quality" of his film. I hope he reads posts about him, so I can challenge him to a boxing match to show the world how much he sucks.

Boy, I went off on a tantrum there.

Tony Jay would roll in his grave if he was told of this travesty. Uwe Boll has no business making ANY movie, let alone anything related to the greatest saga ever conceived. Legacy of Kain is EPIC, not just some playtoy for an overrated, poor excuse of a director. What really needs to happen is Amy Henning needs to get back in touch with Eidos and Crystal Dynamics, and they NEED to produce the final chapter in the Legacy of Kain series. Worldwide, fans are still waiting. This acquisition of movie rights by Uwe Boll is both revolting, and blasphemous. If Boll dabbles in this, then come the day he dies, I will be there personally to escort his soul to the deepest pits of hell.
