February 27, 2008

Are you ready for a third installment of the "Starship Troopers" franchise? Speak up, soldier!

Okay, that's better. (We'll assume you said, 'Yes.') Starship Troopers 3: Marauder is on the way, written and directed by Edward Neumeier. Casper Van Dien is back, reprising his role as Johnny Rico. Ex-Vulcan Jolene Blalock also stars. Neumeier's dedication to this series is steadfast. Aside from penning Robocop, he also scripted the first two "Starship Troopers" films. "Marauder" marks his directorial debut.

Check out this trailer which recently found its way online.

i can concur, with all og ya. But my thought of this movie, it will never be better than the original, but remmembering the $25 that i put by buying the sequel, just this" those cheap bastard studio, they don't give a rat ass, what great saga they could have, with out putting 2nd rate actors". Now with this, they're not gonna lift a finger to the story, so is gonna be bad, but i am interes whatnew bugs they have.

ahhhh god damn it the best thing bout the starship troopers was in the first one besides seeing denise richards boobies in the bonus scenes was the bugs looked real, now spec effects as great are they are now, with these bugs in the 3rd one you can tell its not the same in a bad way.

From what I've read, a lot of you seem to really dig the first film. Well, I'm not one to dispute anyone's tastes. We're all into what we're into. Like music, it's a matter of taste. Who's to say something is "good" and something is "bad", you know? If you like it, that's all the justification you need. But, to me, I just see the first film and think "This film adaptation--Starship Troopers--is a really cheap, bad knock-off of James Cameron's 'Aliens', a science fiction film that really delivered and re-defined the science fiction movie...and it shows. Only it shows badly." But, hey, that's just what I think. Hats off to all of you who really believe in the strength of the first one. Maybe I'll take some of your advice and lighten up and give the first one another try. :)

Hey and by the way, if anyone wants to read some really good military science fiction, check out the anthology "The Best Military Science Fiction of the 20th Century." It's got some really great entertaining and thought-provoking stuff by authors like Philip K. ****, Arthur C. Clarke, George R.R. Martin, and Orson Scott Card. I'm still waiting for a film adaptation that does these great, imaginative authors justice.

The original Starship Troopers is one of my guilty pleasures. I'm not really sure why but I have a lot of fun watching that movie. It's campy and the actors look like they know they are in a campy movie. With that said...I will check this one out. The second one was ok, I guess. Welcome back Rico.

OMG! This is what i've been waiting for? Terrible acting, tv show-like sequences and pit-fall punchlines? I will definately PASS. Who was in charge of casting? My god!!!
