Peace Arch Entertainment has purchased domestic rights on America Ferrera-starrer Toward Darkness (AKA "Hacia la oscuridad"), which the "Ugly Betty" actress is also executive producing, says Variety. The company plans a spring release.

The bilingual thriller is directed by Antonio Negret and also stars Tony Plana of "Ugly Betty," David Sutcliffe of "Gilmore Girls" and Roberto Urbina, who just wrapped Steven Soderbergh's Che.

The film deals with 90 minutes in a kidnapped hostage's life, and the frustration his family, a special ops team, and a man in charge of delivering the ransom money all feel as they rush to save him.
