I Am Legend 2 Rights Sealed Up

Source:ShockTillYouDrop.com
January 3, 2008

Given the box office figures, this shouldn't come as any surprise.

An inside source, who wishes to remain anonymous, tells ShockTillYouDrop.com author Richard Matheson has signed off on sequel rights for the smash hit I Am Legend. Matheson wrote the original 1954 novel upon which Francis Lawrence's film is based.

This does not necessarily mean a sequel is a "go." It simply gives Warner Bros. peace of mind should they find the right direction to take the story in and opt to move forward on a second chapter. If that does happen, it would be the first time the "Legend" material was sequelized.

I loved I am Legend too but i don't think should make a sequel or a prequel because if they do a prequel it will give too much unnecessary info on the disease before I am legend takes place and if they do a sequel then they will just be ruining the first movie in which Will Smith finds a cure and can eliminate the disease all together which would make the sequel boring and pointless.

i just perchased the dvd.
and watched the alternate ending..
and i think that if there was to be a sequel. .
then it should defenately follow the alternate ending..
start over on finding the "cure". searching for other families on the way to vermont..
sounds good

Why beat a dead horse. They have made three version of this movie, why make another one. The lastest version with The Fresh Price was horrible. Will Smith as a scientist was a dumb idea to begin with. And they killed the dog! Come on!
And no body else saw the cheap 1980's effects! The zombie, vampire things would have been better with people in make up.
I think people today a too easily entertained and wouldn't know a good movie if it jumped up and smacked them in the face. I'm not sure people understand on how to even make a good movie. Overpaid people making stupid choses on ****ty actors who aren't the best person for the job and just worries on who will bring in more money. For example-Will Smith as a scientist.
Would this movie have done better with a better, unknown actor? Of course not but would it have been a better movie? Most likely.
And that's eight dollars I will never get back but if they are going to be Hollywood about it and make a sequal, I am good and damn sure that I won't make the same mistake twice.
My Vote: NO a hundred times NO!!

Hey Roger, dude your a dumbass. i am legend was a great movie. How is will smith as a scientist dumb? Seriously explain your self. And they killed the dog, because it showed how hard it was to be the last man on earth especially when your only companion for 3 years has died. And they tried to have people in makeup, but it didnt work. And a sequel would be great, because the first movie was great. So dude, your a dumbass.

Posted by: Darren on March 23, 2008 at 21:24:03

No, he's not a dumbass. You are. The reason why Will Smith as a Scientist is dumb is because it's Will Smith playing a Scientist. I hope you thinking the film was great is a joke because it was far from great. The book is my favourite book and I knew it wasn't going to follow it so I watched the film with an open mind... It didn't matter. The film is horrible. I bet you're the kind of person who laps up Michael Bay films and your favourite movie this decade was Bad Boys 2..

I just saw "I am Legend" this past weekend I really enjoyed it. Not my favorite movie of all time, but definitely entertaining. I thought Will Smith did a great job as the scientist. He is so versatile, he makes any role believable.

I just hope if they do a sequel (or prequel), that it is done right and not just quickly spun off as an easy moneymaker. So many sequels are trash and don't live up to the original, I almost hate to hear that they're even thinking of one. But if done RIGHT, it might be good.

i think that since the alternate ending was made they def. need to make a 2nd {I am Legend} cause in the alternate ending WILL SMITH didn't die. please make another chapter. i seen this movie 3 times in a theater and bout 4 times on dvd.

You are all clown shoes.

My end of the world script is better. JTU is coming... A realistic geoeconomic political action thriller, a multi genre hybrid merging horror, sci fi and epic fantasy realms seamlessly though an adaptive and energetic soundtrack. JTU is coming.

I agree that, if there was to be another I Am Legend movie, it should be everything that happened up to where the original I Am Legend started. It would be just like how the Star Wars series was put together, and that series made a lot of money.

This prospect seems interesting to me. The and the movie both end at points where sequels could potentially happen. My take would be something akin to 28 weeks later set within the survivor community. Neville's cure has been put into a limited production by military elements there, and the infected begin to assault the town just as salvation is in their reach.

dont want to be that guy but robert neville was a white guy in the book and he did not live in new york, the dog he found wandering around the street and he used a lot of garlic but hey they got the title spelled right

Posted by: zadwallop on March 29, 2008 at 20:22:23

i thought the original was very good but i think the idea of a sequel is pretty stupid- there's just not that much more of that world that i'd care to see

What is it with the SPELLING and GRAMMAR on this thread?!

Hardly any of you can string a sentence together with half-a-dozen spelling mistakes in it!

Stop watching movies and go and read a book instead. You should all be ashamed of yourselves!

Posted by: Rigo on March 31, 2008 at 11:27:09

People need to realize, not everyone is going to translate in a movie. Yeah it doesn't follow the book, that being said I still think the movie was still good.

roger your a complete **** head for thinking i am legend was **** and learn how to spell you retard

Posted by: Harrison on April 8, 2008 at 00:28:09

Ok First yes the spelling is verybad on here. But as to a sequal yes i think there should be one and that Will Smith should be in there as the Dr again as seeing that in the alternate version he dosent die, so i think that leaves it open for another movie.

Posted by: Saad on April 8, 2008 at 02:24:40

Ugh,I hated this movie alot, what a piece of **** it is. It's one of the boringest so called scifi horror movies ever.

Posted by: Saad on April 8, 2008 at 02:26:58

I hate it when a movie think's it is something it's not. That's another problem I found with I Am Legend.

spell check.

The movie WAS good! I don't know why you guys don't like Will Smith. He is a great actor. There has to be some reason he sells movies so well. He is not the best looking guy in the world, while not bad either, so I highly doubt his looks are selling them.
I do think a sequel could be done but probably wouldn't be as good. Will Smith shouldn't be in it simply because I liked the ending where he died. I want the next movie to focus on survivors trying to go around and cure people and possibly the virus mutating again.

Posted by: Cindy on April 11, 2008 at 17:47:15

Plus, while you guys have seen the alternate ending on the DVD, millions of people likely haven't. If they do a sequel they should stick to how the director cut it for the theater. That is just my opinion though. I also don't really find this to be a horror movie although I did jump at a lot of key places. It was suspenseful, particularly if you are like me and not numb because your brain has been over saturated by horror, violence and gore. However, I never felt that it tried to claim to be a horror movie.

Will Smith: Believable as a scientist. After all, isn't a scientist simply someone smart enough to go to school and learn a particular area of expertise? What is so ubelievable about that with him? He seems like a smart guy.

I really enjoyed the plot, and Will, but felt let down by the "dark-seekers". They took me out of the film, and I didn't feel they were very menacing. Mostly because the CGI wasn't quite up to par in certain parts (especially when he catches the female test subject and the male comes out to roar at Will--it looked 2 cartoonish).
