Brothers Strause Talk AVP-R Sequel

Source:Ryan Rotten
December 11, 2007

ShockTillYouDrop.com talked to Aliens vs. Predator - Requiem (AVP-R) directors Greg and Colin Strause today about a possible sequel to their highly-anticipated Christmas release.

The brothers told us that "AVP-R" definitely leads into another film. While this film takes place in an American Midwestern town, for the next film, they want to take the action back into space. As a matter of fact, they said that 20th Century Fox has no choice other than to agree to take it back into space following "AVP-R."

While the brothers are currently in discussions with the studio about another pic, the studio is taking a wait-and-see approach. If "AVP-R" makes enough money, the brothers will get the green light for a sequel.

I, myself, found AVP-R a great, entertaining movie MILES better than the first, but I do not believe it made enough money for there to be a 3rd. I'd love to see another AVP, but that is up to the big boys at FOX. US fans have no say-so, unfortunately...

I thinnk AVP-R was better than the first one, this one have everything we miss in the first one, blood, action and great fights..so i think the next one is gonna be cool...i hope so....

I liked the movie even though it did jump around of ocurse i like all the predator movies i hope they will make another one

i thought the first one was good second was better , so the third should get better, what we really need to see is and all out war!?! some of the most vicious aliens, and some of the baddest, eldest predators. im talking about the old ones. i wanna see how bad they are. i know alot of people didnt like the predators on the first one, but i thought they were right on, they were young predators. when you were young and you played sports what did you do? hit the gym and try to get as big as you could. samething thats why they were so big and bulky....

Posted by: uno on April 13, 2008 at 03:52:44

AVP-R was exactly what it should have been: the two most iconic horror film creatures ever created battling to the bloody end. Although i would have liked to see more elements of the horror genre incorporated back into the film; an idea somewhat left behind since the second Alien movie (in my opinion), it was still a great action flick. No, it isn't the same as the originals.. but when is a movie ever supposed to be? The only complaint i ever hear is that it doesn't stand up. Well let's be honest, sequels rarely do. Take it for what it is, nothing more, and it's a complete success.

OK...I loved the first AVP!!!! Loved IT!! I didn't like AVP-R! It was too dark. I couldn't make out what the hell was going on, and I couldn't care less for any of the characters! I think AVP-R was a huge mistake ( I don't mean that having another AVP was a mistake, just the fact that it was done very poorly!) I couldn't make out whether I was watching an AVP movie or a teen horror flick!! They need to go back to the feel of the first AVP!! I wouldn't even have the Brothers Strause do the next one. That would be the better bet. I do, however; like the idea of it taking place in space. I can't wait for another AVP! I just hope that I will not be disappointed!

ok the first avp i didnt like cause the predators got wiped out too fast and then the humans pulled guns out of there ass when its a n arcgeological expedition i thought that was dumb, i liked avp-r cause it had alot more action and a better story line but i think it was too dark and there should have been a few more pred's and a **** load more aliens, cause if any of you remember an alien can change its sex to be a queen to lay eggs so there have been a **** load more aliens, and i think it would be great if the next one too kplace in space have an all out marine, alien, and predator war with new weapons for the marines bring back the flamethrower and the gernade launcher, also have a few tricks up their sleeves by focusing on the growth of the aliens and have it more clear what is happening and not so dark you cant tell if its a predalien or a predator, also add a little more acidic blood that makes an awesome scene. so more weapons, better visuals of the aliens and predators, and bring back the whole were bad ass theme to the marines from "Aliens" that would be cool

AVP-R was a great movie. It was not too dark and teenage like, It showed us what was to come in the future of the AVP series, and if most of you didn't know, The movie had a hidden thing in it, The PredAlien could only produce babies in the Pregnent women, so i thought this was great, since he only targeted cetain ppl, and you wouldn't have gotten this from just watching, you had to actually understand it..They did a great job, and from what i hear, it might actually show the aliens planet in this one, i really hope it does...

Brothers Strause I hope you read this because you ruined it for me.
You made AVP-R a B grade movie. No let me correct myself. You made AVP-R a Z grade movie.
Pls. Do not get me wrong. I do like Alien and Predator movies. However, after watching AVP-R on blue ray I must admit that first AVP looks more appealing.
Honestly 10min. into the movie I did think that there was something wrong with my projector settings. The whole damn thing is so dark.
The whole movie was shot in low light. WHY? I do agree with terry s. I couldn't make out what the hell was going on half of the movie. And who wrote the script? 12 years old.
I can just hope that brothers Strause do not ever take camera in their hands.

I liked the first A vs. P more so than the second one. The first one had more action, more predators, and well known actors. Second one shows they were either tight on the budget or used directors that had very little direction. The ending was horrible. How can you have one Predator through the majority of the movie ? Hope FOx either use the same director from the first one or have the directors of second installment do a much better job.

the avp-r is a copy from all the aliens and the predator 1,2 movies.for me its not worth watch it.i quit watching it is nothing that i haven`t see.i bored that imitation stuff.and its very dark.i only liked the aliens that were from the 1987 film.i think is better to do an aliens remake movie.or a movie that takes place on the predator or aliens planet.

Posted by: Ruby on June 4, 2008 at 09:44:52

I couldn't agree less with jim.
There was no originality in AVP-R. I adore both the Alien and Predator series, but that last movie was just awful.
There were too many themes related only too obviously from the older "good" movies.
You can't work like that. The end result was scattered and dead ideas.
Shame-shame...

The thing is that they were looking to the next movie. this movie is a setup movie for what comes next. If you read the comic book EarthHive it takes up where Aliens left off with a space marine, a young girl, and a kick ass female surviving an alien attack. this movie does the same thing which tells me that they were probably trying to set the stage so they could make an AvP EarthHive movie. it was a good series and would work well as a movie.

AVP-R was much better than AVP. The darkness makes it more menacing, like in the original Alien. AVP didn't start until the third reel.
It would be good to incorporate the space jockey's story somehow in the next edition- which could tie the end of AVP-R to the beginning of Alien.
I'd like to see a proper Giger hive on the Alien homneworld, and some more about the space jockey- another species which has to deal with the Aliens somehow. Maybe the space jockeys have a way of farming Aliens? (That's why they are transporting them around?) You can see a space jockey head in the trophy room at the start of AVP-R.
Anyway, there should be four species in the next edition (and four homeworlds?), with all the possibilities of different combats and breeding that presents...
Could be a hell of a fight!

i enjoyed the first avp and the second one is growing on me. even tho its hard to see what is going on at times. i feel they need to finish off the trilogy for the sake of the fans and hav the end of avp3 tie in with alien 1. do another one fox i beg u.

There is no other way than that you're all 11 year old boys. We don't like the movies you like, but you love the movies we like because you're yet to see real good movies.

AVPR has been nominated the worst movie of the year, and is slated by 95% of reviewers as a dreadfully poor and boring movie.

Go and download some real alien or predator movies.

There now is enough evidence that the Strause brothers are a complete joke. Thankfully they are the laughing stock of the movie industry and should be getting less and less work as the years go by.

Posted by: Fred Waxer on August 9, 2008 at 17:25:37

Yeah I agree completely, I don't know what these little kids liked in the movie.

The film's so dark you can't see anything, that's good if it's horror and scares but it's not it's action only, there no scares at all. So an action movie where you can't see anything?

And there no good shots of the alien or predator, terrible cinematography, lighting, a sesamestreet script. I'd say this movie isn't even for 11 year olds. Strictly under 5's I'd say.

Oh and they promote the movie with the gore scenes of children dying, babies being eaten and pregnant women being killed.

Talk about masking your lack of talent for moviemaking with sensationalism.

And great taste too, must be real honourable bunch of guys those strause brothers

I was at a party back when the Strause brothers were directing music videos. They were both smashed and I saw the grossest thing. They were tag-teaming this lama and it kept spitting up on them, and Colin crapped himself. I kinda forgot about it, until last year when I saw AVP Requiem. I think it was inspired by that night they tagteamed the lama. At any rate, if AVP was done right, it would have made more than a piddly 40 mil. Can you imagine if 20th century got Christopher Nolan to direct the movie instead of those lama ****ers? Now that would have been a movie worth seeing! The next AVP will have a smaller turn out if they direct again.

Damn son! Thas hardcore! I didn't think aliens vs. predator requiem was allll that. They filmed the hole damn movie in the dark. Sucked!

I have had a dreams of going up agianst hundreds of these aliens in nightmare dreams that I loved !!!! Bring it back brothers.. Please !!!!!!!

If the Strause's actually read these I would like to say - 'thanks'.
I am so glad that at 27 years of age, I finally got to see the traditional Predator and Alien types face off against each other.
The creatures in AVPR are far more identifiable than those in AVP.
The fact that the Predator in AVPR had similar traits and behaviour to the creatures in 'Predator 1 & 2' impressed me and really linked the films. It really felt that they were from the same species, if not the same clan.
The Aliens, too, felt (through photography and movement) like they belonged to the species in 'Alien/s'.
The human characters had adequate development and we know all we need to know about them very quickly. They are not exactly as pivotal to the plot as the creatures anyway. Look at 'Predator'. Its lauded and loved as a classic with less character development than AVPR and both are solid action genre films.
The gore was once again revived, great, but personally, wether 'R' or 'PG13', that doesn't affect my enjoyment.
Finally, its an action/horror film featuring the two icons. The reflections from the previous films are an element I welcome, as well as the original ideas (Predalien, life cycles, the notion that no-one is safe - kids, pregnant women, etc), and I hope they keep the familiarity flowing through the next film as well as offering a lot of new staple moments.
Leaving certain things to audience interpretation was also a good move and a few times you have to think, "now what is the Predator doing with...OH, I get it...".
I am always surprised by the low level of understanding people have of the Predator and Alien characters and their habits.
Anyhow, enough of this, lets have AVP3 and please, don't let these rumours of 'The Rock' starring in it be true - Jason Statham (Death Race)/Richard Burgi (Starship Troopers 2).
Thats my 2 cents anyway.

Posted by: Chief Slaughter on February 20, 2009 at 09:42:24

Too dark, horrible script (the power's out!), waaaay to much time spent on stupid human storyline, new (gay) alien teeth, etc etc etc. I can only hope that like the Batman series, someone will come along and revive these once great creatures to the level they deserve. Requiem has to represent rock bottom, there's nowhere to go but up. Please go back to special effects.
