What Happened to Farmer, Lussier's Halloween 3?
Source:Todd Farmer
January 15, 2010
This is a great read. And I knew at some point all the details would surface.
Writer Todd Farmer has posted a blog that details his journey, with director Patrick Lussier, on their version of Dimension Films' Halloween 3D.
To lift any paragraphs from Farmer's prose would be a disservice to the piece - plus you might take a detail out of context. But here it is, from Farmer and Lussier's early talks to their preparation on the script while trying to juggle prep on the upcoming Drive Angry.
Farmer doesn't mince words. As always, there's a touch of wit as he talks FX artist Gary Tunnicliffe's plans, their whirlwind writing sessions, potential cast members (Tom Atkins!) and more.

As of this writing, from my understanding, Dimension Films is presently fielding pitches from other writers for Halloween 3-D.

Seriously love Todd Farmer. Thought there might actually be a great Halloween film for the first time since Season of the Witch. Good to know Bob can blow anything if given the opportunity.

Wow, man. Wow.

$hit! read Farmer's blog and the script (what little details he gives) sounds awesome. it definitely involved LAURIE. but BOB F^UCKING WEINSTEIN, the same dumb F^UCK who can't release and market almost any film they have, screwed Todd & Patrick over. this stinks. from the sounds of it the script would've been really good.

Any writers who can take the mess of h2 and come up with something useableto follow up should have been hired right away.

This is outstanding. A real shame. This had me giddy. The first time for a REAL Halloween film in well over a decade or more. Weinstein, get some brains. Get these guys back and make a Halloween movie the fans actually want to see!!.

The Weinsteins should sell the Halloween rights to another company. A company who wouldn't of let Zombie purposely try to kill the Halloween franchise, just to piss off the fans. That's right I said it and it's true too. Having love hurts in the second movie after fans *****ed about it proves it. That was the the final spit in the face into the Halloween fans. You Zombie lovers can say otherwise, throw your stones, and belittle me, but I don't give a two s#its, because the true is the true. Zombie doesn't give a s@it about the Halloween fans. All he cares about our his fans that kiss his ass and make him believe he can do no wrong.

Hopefully someone in Hollywood will be dumb or desperate enough to employ Beardy McMane, Scout Cholmondley-Warner and Bobblenose McDowell in other projects when 'H3' finally gets given the green light and they have to recast those pivotal roles.
Oh, and find a professional scriptwriter this time around, eh? Third-rate rock stars scrawling illegibly on the backs of gig flyers simply can't cut it. Hopefully someone's learned a valuable - albeit painful - lesson after the under-performing, hobo-tacular 'H2'.

So it was going to be a straight sequel in Zombie's continuity with a script that had been written in 8 days. In 3D. And people are upset that it got canned? Sounds like we dodged a bullet, frankly.

Just watched Halloween 2 5 minutes ago, wow you guys were right, what a turd. I'm ok with a cooling off period for Mikey, haven't felt this discusted since the Busta Rhymes crapola.

Hyde you are right, but the great part of this franchise (and ole Rob proves this) is that you can COMPLETELY disregard anything that happened before!

It doesn't surprise me to learn that the Weinsteins are looking for new writers(and possibly new filmmakers)for the still-in-the-works HALLOWEEN 3/H3-D,since it sounds like both Lussier and Farmer are much more interested in working on DRIVE ANGRY(Nicolas Cage meets DEATH PROOF,HIGHWAYMEN,and RACE WITH THE DEVIL)and KRISTY(whatever the heck that's about)than another installment in the Michael Myers saga(which I'm sure will shift gears in yet another retooling/"reboot"-ing of the series).

I wasn't aware they even started anything yet.

This is awful. Halloween 3D sounds like the worst idea ever. I liked Rob Zombie's re-imagining of a story that itself was added to and added to as it went along. I am very disappointed that after Rob Zombie already went back and started the franchise over to tell his own version of the story, and now this Halloween 3D sounds like another new beginning.
We never even finished the original series. Where is Halloween 9 and possibly 10. What happens when Michael Myers kills all the rest of his family? Does he ever break the curse? I want to know. Halloween 8 (Resurrection) had nothing to do with the rest of the story except that he finally killed Laurie Strode. But what about her grand son? You know, Jamie Lloyd's baby from Halloween 6. Also what about Laurie Strode's son from H20? He still needs to kill those two.
So instead of starting over AGAIN, they should just finish the original story. They could have a Halloween 9 where Michael goes after Josh Hartnet or however you spell his name. Then a 10 where he goes after the baby from Halloween 6 in '95 so the baby could be a teen by the time that movie was made, perfect age for trying to survive Mikey's onslaught.

Speaking of which I think it is totally messed up that when Laurie Strode faked her death she left her daughter behind in the same town to get killed by Michael. What a selfish selfish woman.

halloween H20 was written as halloween 3, so in that story, lurie didnt have a daughter, in the eyes of the people who made that movie parts 4-6 didnt happen, just thought i would add that in :) i have heard that jamie lee curtis hated all the halloween sequels and disregarding them was one of the conditions that the film makers had to meet before she would agree to come back.
