TV's Talisman Temporarily Shelved

September 13, 2007

One only needs to read Stephen King and Peter Straub's "The Talisman" to see the money pouring off the page. To adapt said novel takes vision and a little bit of bread. But no one seems to have picked up on that fact in the twenty-five year climb "Talisman" has attempted to get to the big screen.

Late last year, TNT announced a six-hour mini-series with Steven Spielberg and Kathleen Kennedy executive producing. It was expected to air in 2008, but all that seems to be rubbish now that the scripts - written by The Ring's Ehren Kruger - have been turned in.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, TNT and Dreamworks TV are putting the project on hold while they step back to mull over the budget costs. As it stands, the current teleplays they hold are larger in scale than they anticipated. That's totally understandable given the ambitious nature of the story which concerns a young man trying to save his mother's life while bouncing between our world and the Territories, a parallel world, to obtain a talisman that will help his cause.

Both parties sound serious about making "The Talisman," it just sounds like we'll be waiting a bit longer before that happens.
