Are You Ready For Paranormal Effect?
Source:Simius Films
November 19, 2009
Don't act too surprised... Simius Films has released details for their first production Paranormal Effect, the supernatural feature film about one of the most famous Japanese curses.
Visiting her native Japan with her American boyfriend Darren, Reiko is disappointed to see him spend most of his time filming local stereotypes. Already upset, Reiko draws the line when Darren walks into a forbidden cave, which, according to local beliefs, enshrines shinto gods since the dawn of time. From then, Reiko and Darren start witnessing strange things happening around them, some of which they manage to catch on camera. Will they have time to understand what is upon them before it is too late?
Found (?) and edited by the 2 Japanese producers Ryuichi Asano and Teruo Ito, the video footage will be brought to the world on VOD and Video distribution in January 2010, says the press release.
Below is the teaser trailer.

This little bit of knockoff really doesn't bother me. Lord knows, American filmmakers take really good, creepy, scary Japanese horror movies and throw a huge budget at them and ruin them with un-scary special effects. As good as Paranormal Activity is, I can't wait to see what Japan can do with the premise.

Normally this would be annoying, but considering how much American filmmakers have made terrible knock-offs (packaged as remakes) of successful Asian horror films, I like to think of this as payback.

Look at it...it looks like my buddy took a camera and a japanese chick and did the film himself. It belongs on youtube. Hell, I even have that same heartbeat sound effect on my laptop!
