Danny Boyle To Direct 127 Days

November 5, 2009

The true story that inspired this upcoming film definitely sounds like a horror story. Fox Searchlight and filmmaker Danny Boyle (28 Days Later) have announced 127 Days as their next project according to Variety.

The film that tells the story of mountaineer Aron Ralston. After his right forearm got pinned for nearly five days under a boulder during a climb in Utah in May, 2003, Ralston used a dull knife to amputate the limb. He then scaled a 65-foot sheer wall and hiked out before running into a family that gave him water and food. He was finally rescued by helicopter.

Boyle will direct the film, with production to begin next year for a late 2010 release. The pic will be financed and distributed by Searchlight in partnership with Pathe.

Boyle has written a treatment, and Simon Beaufoy is in talks to write the script with Christian Colson set to produce.

Sounds like a really amazing story. His right forearm pinned under a boulder? Also the fact that he had to cut it off, then scale a 65-foot wall...man. Can't imagine what he went through. Looking forward to this movie very much.

Damn that just had me so excited for a return to the zombie world he created in 28 days later... any news on whether or not another sequel is underway with that?

@Evil Luckey...I made the same mistake, but the confusion comes in the title. I think it's supposed to be 127 Hours.

So the guy's trapped in the wilderness for 127 hours and when he finally makes it back to civilization, he discovers that society has collapsed and the world's been taken over by rage-filled "zombies"? That's got to be a sucky week by anyone's standards.
