November 3, 2009

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment have set November 10th as the release date for Roland (Day After Tomorrow, 2012) Emmerich's 1998 American-ized version of Godzilla on Blu-Ray.

According to the press release, this is much more than your typical Blu-ray Disc release because SPHE has teamed up with Sony Computer Entertainment America to deliver a Digital Copy file for the PSP® (PlayStation® Portable) system that will be included on the Blu-ray Disc to be transferred via PlayStation®3 system. Additional special features include: movieIQ, Trivia Game, cinechat, and more.

Mathew Broderick (Election, The Producers), Jean Reno (The Pink Panther 1&2), Hank Azaria (Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian), Michael Lerner (Love and Other Disasters) and Harry Shearer (This is Spinal Tap) make up a cast of New Yorkers looking on with fear and foreboding as the reckless reptile lays siege on their city.

This movie was so bad. The script was horrible. He's heading to Manhattan its and island with water around it. Lets see something worth while come to blue ray like Night Breed.

DO NOT get this 'thing' confused as the real King of the Monsters. Besides, it's already been officially renamed to just Zilla. Suprised this Blu-ray release kept the original name.

Never understood the hate on this film. I thought it was an absolute blast, and I am a longtime fan of the older movies as well. The taxi chase was a truly fantastic action sequence too.

Funny how this film is perceived as a flop when in fact it's worldwide box office was pretty much equal to the recent STAR TREK reboot, and that was 11 years before in unajusted dollars. It cost less too! And yet, Godzilla is considered a box office flop and Star Trek is a mega smash. Go figure. (no disrespect to Trek by the way, I enjoyed that film a lot too.)

I'd rather have Who Framed Rodger Rabbit on blu-ray then this steaming pile of reptile poo.

Ugh. The biggest mistakes they made w/ this movie were:

a) The cast. No one in that movie was believable. Absolutely terrible chemistry between the romantic leads.
b) Comedy. Tounge in cheek humor put the orignal Gojira to rest in the '70s. Toho had already revived him w/ very serious movies. Why couldn't Sony have taken cues from that?
c)Terrible action sequences. From the choppers in the "death star trench" chase to the godzooky swarmn. All terribly uninspired.

The only thing good about this movie, IMO, was the monster design.

Another horrible movie being released on BlueRay. Let's just keep adding to the crap library.

I LOVE GODZILLA, ALL OF THEM FROM 1954 ALL THE WAY TO GODZILLA MOTHRA AND KING GHIRDORAH AFTER 2000 AND OWN THEM AS WELL

but ''GODZILLA 1998'' SUCKED ****ING BALLS
American sucks are ****ing remakes and i mean ****ING SUCKS... How could you possible **** up a godzilla movie? Can any of you people hear answer that?

LEGENDARY PICTURES WHO DID ''THE DARK KNIGHT'' BATMAN BEGINS''and ''THE WATCHMEN'' nd ''where the wild things are''

Anyways I love Godzilla and the 1998 film that was done in American ****ing sucked... I went in there the biggest godzilla fan and left there disappointed. Roland emmerich the dude who made it should be tortured and burned alive for that piece of **** mess.

Anyways ''legendary pictures'' should hopefully reboot this franchise and make the monster look like godzilla PLEASE LEAVE THE LAME ROMANCE OUT... I want monsters blowing **** up and godzilla blowing fire, being ALMOST invonvicable.

If Holly makes another Crappy-****ing Cheesefest Godzilla like we did in 1998 then **** them.

Sad when a 10 million daller godzilla film or less in japan is more entertain then the 135$ million dallers then spent on a stupid tuna eater. FAIL!

But i love godzilla, So i do hope the ''REBOOT'' happenes, I really hope godzilla will be done justice.

Up from the depths,
30 stories high
breathing fire
he sdtands in the sky
GODZILLA
GODZILLA
GODZILLA!

This movie sucked.. Lets hope the ''Reboot'' in the year 2012 is ALOT BETTER then this movie.

The cab scene was rediclous, Godzilla looked like ****ING ****! He didnt breathe fire.. and died from 6 missels shots? oh im sorry he was also a transexual and laid eye's and ran from tanks...

**** YOU ROLAND EMMERICH FOR RUINING GODZILLA. ****ING BASTERED.

Posted by: wyngarde on November 4, 2009 at 16:09:06

It's because of this movie, I'm not seeing 2012.

As for you that "enjoyed it"...It must not take much to entertain you...

The BIGGEST problem in this movie? No Godzilla! They had a dinosaur that liked dodging buildings and making eggs, but there was NO GODZILLA in this movie.

With American effects and budgets, we should have seen N.Y. get flattened while the army fought a giant monster!

Look, I would have preferred GODZILLA looked like the Godzilla we all know and loved and have him battle another creature. And yeah, not having him breath fire was weak, and the human characters were not especially strong.

But...

If you are really a fan of Godzilla films or monster movies in general, can you explain to me all the great human characters in the Godzilla movies from 1954 on? I mean, outside Megumi Odaka's telepath character Miki in the 90's series of films (the best run in my opinion), the human characters were pretty much on par with what you had in the 98 film.

And seriously, if you look at the film as a "giant monster movie" I find little to complain about. It delivered large scale well orchestrated action scenes and mass destruction on a massive scale. The film even allowed us to empathize a bit with the monster. If you are going to say the movie is ****, well, I guess BEAT FROM 20 THOUSAND FATHOMS and any number of these types of films are **** too.

Finally, (and again, I have all the Godzilla, Gamera, etc, movies made on dvd) I still remember reading reviews of GODZILLA 2000 or GODZILLA FINAL WARS and people saying how awesome THOSE movies were compared to Godzilla 98. Seriously? I even remember one sad reviewer making the comment that the one scene with GINO (Godzilla from the 98 film) in Final Wars was executed with more imagination than anything in the 98 movie. Um. Really?

At what point does fandom/nostalga end and reality begin. Sorry, as much a fan of the old films as I am, I'll take that crazy cab chase and "death Star" style helicopter sequence over those flicks.

To Poster : (Rupert P.)
---------------------------------------------
I give not 1 piece of respect to this movie. Why? Roland didnt even like the Japanese Godzilla, He didnt even want to do the movie.. Toho had demands that godzilla be invincable, breathe fire and kept the spikes upon his back. Instead they completly changed the Image, Gave him a Huge hanging Jaw, He ate tuna?? Wtf He feeds on Nuclear energy....

Dont tell you've never seen ''The Lost World jurassic park'' Where the T-rex chases the car? Geeee ring a bell.....For a Monster 200 feet tall and supposed to breathe fire.. Cab wouldnt stand a chance.

Also a good 60% of the film we see Gino's ****ing Foot? HIS FOOT! Im sorry even the BEST JAPANESE movie cost 19$ million dallers so you expect what you get.

When a films budget is 135$ million, Tones of hype and even the taco bell commercial....I mean i was expexing Way Way Way more from a Godzilla film esp since i liked Independance Day from Roland emmerich.

This fiilm should have been Called ''The beats from 20,000 phantoms'' the creature would have fit well and wouldnt have expected much.

This ******* Used the ''Godzilla'' name to bring in extra Cash nothing more Nothing less...

Lets hope ''LEGENDARY PICTURES REBOOT'' Will bring the Classic Godzilla back, and we can forget about the Shame that was Godzilla 1998.

The fixed the batman frahcnise so hope they do the same for godzilla.

Hi Hey Rupert P.

Sorry for the misspelling of "Beast." And yes, of course I have seen Jurassic Park, and I love that film. And while that car chase sequence was impressive, I didn't feel the Godzilla one with cars flying all over the place was exactly a rip off. The little Godzillas on the other hand were a clear rip off on the Raptors though.

I agree, I hope Legendary Pitures actually go through with a reboot. It would be awesome to see a well rendered Godzilla that actually looks like the Godzilla we all know and love. But I still found the 98 Godzilla to be a fun montser movie in it's own right.

And as for Roland "not listening" to Toho, that isn't true. In fact, not only did Toho approve the design, they insisted Godzilla not be portrayed in a malicious way. Hence the softer tone of the movie.

Rubbish. Toho hated the film and how Godzilla was portrayed.
