This guys seems like a really cool guy, I bet it would be awesome working with him. From what I've heard in Watchmen, his acting ability doesn't match his looks...but, that's why it's called acting I suppose. I'm excited for this! And I loved the original.
Posted by: Derek on November 1, 2009 at 00:10:23
Haley is one cool guy, and it's good to see out of the success of Watchmen he's getting more work because the guy is an insanely good actor, and I see many more movies featuring him in the future.
Posted by: Jonesy on November 1, 2009 at 11:41:22
**** him. Robert Englund is the only one. And If New Line hadn't dragged ass for so long in the last 15 years and maybe if they tried to tie up more things story-wise, we could have gotten two more films post New Nightmare in addition to Freddy Vs. Jason.
Now this is not to say that the Nightmare films have ever been strong as far as stories go, outside of 1, 3, and 7, which were the strongest due mainly to Wes Craven. But the key thing was ALWAYS Robert Englund. He IS Freddy. New Line Cinema is the house that Freddy built. And they ****ing fired him. I bet that makes him feel all warm inside in the worst way.
But, please, for the love of God, stop remaking everything! I mean, they're already remaking Let The Right One In, a foreign horror that's been out for less than two years! WTF? Not to mention Quarantine was the same deal in its relationship with its source film Rec. Almost insta-remake. It's god damn ridiculous.
Now, I'm not going to be one of those lovers of the original work who is going to say I refuse to see the remake of ANOES or anything like that. I am going to see it. But I'm going in with a view of extreme hatred towards it because it's missing the most important ingredient. But, hell, no one's listening to me anyway.

Jonesy I completely AGrEE with you 100 %. There is only one freddy and this movie no matter how good it might turn out to be still will always be lacking robert Englund. because he is the only Freddy
Posted by: Sane_Enough on November 1, 2009 at 12:49:46
Robert is a great guy and an actor who loves what he does. He IS Freddy Krueger in the minds of the masses because he has always been Krueger. But Freddy Krueger is not Robert Englund, if you can wrap that around your heads. There are ALOT of remakes that are not needed, like Texas Chainsaw Massarce, The Hills Have Eyes, Last House on The Left...but in some cases a great film series like Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween and Friday the 13th have spat out too many crappy sequeals and starting over, away from the goofy, silly boogey man freddy became or the boring, convoltued Michael Myers is the best way to go.
We all have the collections in our DVD library and can watch them at any time and remember what it was like when were little kids, but, using new technology and a better understanding of the mind of a psychopath like Myers or Freddy's desire for revenge and need to kill will only the character better.
That is who we want to see coming back again and again to allow us to wallow in our dark places. That charactor.
Jackie Earle Haley is going to do a tremendous job of bringing Freddy Krueger away from a white tux wearing, video game playing, one line spouting halloween mask and make him scarey again. Robert Englund couldn't do that, not now after so many years. Maybe he knows that, maybe he just didn't want to set in that make up chair for hours to do what he's already done. Robert Englund is an actor and there is a point as an actor when there is no point in not being challenged by a role - even one that defined him.

4 paragraphs. really?
jackie earle haley taking the role of freddy is really that big a deal to you?
man, i hope you realize, life is only going to get rougher....better get yourself a helmet.

Wrong sweater. Jackie is awesome.

I saw the remake at a super advanced test screening on Wednesday. Granted, what I saw was likely to be different than what is ultimately shown in April, but what I saw was TERRIBLE. Easily the worst effort from Platinum Dunes yet. I'm not a remake hater and was really excited to see Jackie's take on Freddy -- but man, it was bad. He plats Freddy as Bob Dylan playing Freddy. The kills are boring -- everyone just gets stabbed in the chest -- and almost all of the dream sequences are just riffs on the ones in the original, but not done as well. There is zero imagination at work here, the only cool sequence being one that takes place in a pharmacy. Really disappointed, and unless they do some real rejiggering with this thing come April, you'll be disappointed too.
Posted by: Sadist on November 1, 2009 at 20:33:47
Really, Scissorman. You saw a test screening. You are telling a lie, a big faceless lie, a big dead cowardly heart you have. Jackie understands that people want robert and see him as rorscach, he's awesome as him.

You remake haters need to get a life. Im 35 so i grew up in the 80's with the nightmare movies and friday movies and holloween movies. And i think they were awesome. But its been long enough that its cool to see reimagining of these movies. The new Holloween movies were way better than the original low budget Holloweens. The new Friday the 13th was way better than the original corny low budget Friday the 13th's. The new Texas Chainsaw movies were way better than the originals. Im man enough to admit it. I dont have to be one of those idiots thats afraid to admit something new is better than the original that came out that i grew up with. Get real idiots. I loved all 3 of those franchises but they were all very corny. And most of them were direct to video catastrophies.
So long as the Weinsteins dont have anything to do with them its fine. For those of you who havent heard, the Weinsteins are gonna remake Hellraiser in 3D. What a fckuing joke. What a bunch of talentless minds. The correct thing to do would be to give Clive Barker himself a huge budget to allow him to remake it himself the way it was meant to be.

I think everyone is missing the point. Here it is:
Platnium Dunes has not made one good movie. Ever.
They just remake great movies, use almost the exact same plot, kill the same characters in the same places as the original, but somehow make the movies dumber.
This movie will suck.
Posted by: txhsfball on November 1, 2009 at 21:03:42
Dear Wade L(moron)
What exactly are you talking about? Platinim Dunes has never made a good movie? lol. Let the past go. Because thats what your holding on to if u wont admit the remakes of Friday the 13th, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Amityville Horror, and The Hitcher were better than the originals. All 4 of these movies were way better than the originals. You need to let go of the past if you cant admit that. And Platinum Dunes was behind all these remakes. Grow up.
Posted by: Scissorman on November 1, 2009 at 22:15:39
Nope Sadist. Not lying. The screening took place in El Segundo on Wed. Michale Bay Brad Fuller and the other guy were all there. Of course you won't believe me, and that's fine I don't care, but here's some tidbits so that when you finally get around to seeing the turd in April, you'll realize I was telling the truth.
The following could be considered SPOILERS, so stop reading if you care.
1) In one of 3(!) scenes in which the teens try to research what's happening, they go to a library. One of the books they get is called "Boiler Rooms In America" LOL.
2) Freddy appears in a monk's robe near the end.
3)The teens experience "micronaps" which basically allow Freddy to stalk them while they are awake.
4) They find one of the original Elm Street kids (they are all teenagers now and have all magically forgotten about Freddy abusing them as kindergarteners. This is never explained) on the internet. He is Asian and has filmed himself getting killed on his webcam. Nobody has bothered to take this snuff video down apparently.
Anything else you'd like to know?

You're calling me a moron? I will concede that the Amityville Horror was better for the most part, but the other three movies sucked!
Texas Chainsaw was ridiculous, Friday the 13th was pointless and The Hitcher was stupid. They killed the guy because the girl had to live and be the badass. Why? Because thats the trend.
That's what Platnum Dunes is. A bunch of trend followers who spend way too much on a movie that will be forgotten in ten years.
You're wrong. Deal with it.
Posted by: Eo on November 2, 2009 at 01:31:08
i will say it again...the scariest thing about this movie will be in the opening credits when it says produced by micheal Bay
Posted by: Eo on November 2, 2009 at 01:49:55
I'm not a original whore either..but saying platunum dunes remakes have all been better is the craziest thing i've ever heard..your seriously going to tell me it was cool watching the scene in the hitcher where the guy takes down like 5 ****in cops on a stretch of road? i bet anything that scene was bays idea...your really going to say watching jason shoot a ****in arrow across a lake at a speeding boat and hit the guy in the face was great filmmaking? Finally..your going to claim that watching a petite girl stick a decently sized gun(nothing mentioned about how she even got the damn thing) in her vag..then shoot herself in the head is great filmmaking from platinum dunes and is better than anything in the original TCM? it's funny to see people like you come onto this site, repeat yourself multiple times, make no sense with a statement like your living in the past if you dont think the new ones are better..and call people morons. Saying the hitcher remake was good makes me believe you have no taste in movies whatsoever and were probably first in line for the prom night remake..you want to tell us that was a good one also?
Posted by: noob on November 2, 2009 at 03:41:41
I'll say this. I love the originals of all these movies, but the original TCM sucked. PERIOD. END OF DISCUSSUION. It was made in 1974, probably the most UNSCARIEST thing i have ever watched in my life, and to this day it is probably one of the worst horror films ever. Back in 1974 it was the greatest horror film ever because it was the first of it's kind back then. How many movies at that time had people running around hacking up people and eating them and junk. NONE! at least none that stood out anyway. The friday the 13th remake was pretty bad. So was the hitcher. The halloween remake was decent. The texas chainsaw massacre remake could have been loads better, BUT it was still better than the original. I don't care what anyone says, your a fool if you don't believe it. I'd rather chop my **** off, and watch paint dry than watch the original TCM. It's called the texas chainsaw massacre and there is NO blood in the movie whatsoever. I'll give it credit for spawning the remake, and the "slasher" genre. ( i don't know if you'd really call it slasher.)Bottom line if anyone were to watch that 1974 TCM today they're be bored out of their minds. Probably wouldn't admit it for ****, but they would be.

Have to disagree with anyone on here saying that the new Halloweens were better than the origanals. Remaking a film is fine, but if your going to remake a classic the new version had better raise the bar from the original. Zombies Halloween films were thoughtless and relied on nothing more than extreme gore and nudity. The originals used things such as music tone lighting and things like that to scare the audience. That being said, I am interested to see what is done with the new Nightmare, haowever, it would be nice to see more originality from hollywood, seeing as the originality of these films is what made them dear to everyone in the first place.
Posted by: HorrorCat999 on November 2, 2009 at 13:05:37
No offense to anyone here. Everybody has their own opinions, and people love movies enough to take it very personally. But why can't we just like the original and new movies? We can still have our opinions. But why bash each other for them? The originals were already done, and they're still here, they're not going anywhere. We still watch them because we love how they formed today's horror. Movies are going to be made continuously, till the day the earth dies. I mean, it looks like we're viewing 'curiosity' as a bad thing, and 'opinions' too. As to Samuel Bayer? This is his first directorial debut, and some directors don't have alot of power as the producers and film companies do. From what I've heard, the film business is a complicated one. Lastly, I think people forget how much hard work making a movie is. For everybody who is involved. Ok, Im done. Lol.

oh, and good luck to Haley! You'll do an awesome job.

EVER SINCE I SAW HALEY IN THE "BAD NEWS BEARS" AND "THE PLANET OF THE APES" TV SERIES I THOUGHT HE WAS GREAT.
I AM SO GLAD HE IS BACK AND HE HAS BEEN IN SOME GREAT MOVIES. HE IS A GREAT ACTOR AND HE WILL BE AWESOME. I BELIEVE HE WILL BRING BACK THAT SAME MYSTERY ROBERT GAVE US IN THE 1ST ONE. BUT SINCE MIKE BAY IS IN IT THERE WILL PROBABLY BE LOTS OF EXPLOSIONS.
GIVE HIM A BREAK. HE WILL DO FINE...ITS THE PEOPLE THAT PUT IT TOGETHER THAT WE HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT. AT LEAST THEY DIDN'T GET SOME MTV PRETTY BOY TO PLAY HIM.....
Posted by: txhsfball on November 2, 2009 at 23:32:33
Lol your an idiot if you cant admit the new versions are better. All the old Holloween movies, that i grew up loving by the way, were extremely corny. The Friday movies were extremely corny. Give me a break. I loved them all at the time but putting them next to the new versions and saying the originals are better is just plain ridiculous. If the original versions of all those movies were to come out in 2009 they would all be straight to dvd. And not cuz the budgets either, but because they are corny. Plain and simple.
To the moron saying all the Rob Zombie Holloween versions were thoughtless and pointless and relied only on extreme gore and nudity....your a moron. Thats exactly what his movies relied on but thats also what the originals relied on you fckuing idiot. Rob Zombies version even went into the story of a young mike myers and how he became what he was and the originals didnt so what the fcku are you talking about. Fcku i hate arguing with idiots.

Atually if you wath the original halloween, there is only one nude sceen, as were in zombies every victim was naked right before they died. So review your films before you go around talking **** calling people morons. second, why is having an origin for myers that great. the kid was annoying as **** and why is it that we always have to justify the insanity of these characters. What makes him a great villian in the first place is that we dont have sympathy for that character.
