Rob Zombie Finishes Up Director's Cut of Halloween II
October 26, 2009

Back in August when Rob Zombie was doing press for
Halloween 2, the writer/director admitted to having an alternate cut of his sequel that would inevitably end up being the DVD "director's cut".
The filmmaker just announced via his
Twitter account that the
"director's cut is finally done" and that it's
"very different than the theatrical version."
How different is different? Below are some quotes he gave me for the piece I originally wrote for Icons Of Fright about the changes from his initial cut to the theatrical version.
"There is another version of the movie that’s very, very different that will probably be the director’s cut. There were 2 ways we could cut the movie," he explains.
"The way we cut it for the theatrical, Laurie Strode’s character is the main difference in the two. (In the theatrical) She’s holding it together, getting her life together and it starts spiraling downward. In the other version, she’s an incredible mess and gets worse. She never has any good moments, she’s just messed up, she’s lashing out at everyone, she’s horrible. Messed up on drugs, she’s just completely spun out through the whole movie. It makes for a real challenging movie to watch and I feel like I don’t know if fans would’ve embraced so much darkness."
"Everything’s the same in that version except for her. There’s other scenes with her, and mostly with Annie. Her relationship with Annie is horrible and they’re at each other’s throats through the whole movie. They are not in the theatrical version."
No release date has been set yet for the DVD, but we'll let you know as soon as it's officially announced.
Halloween II stars Scout Taylor-Compton, Tyler Mane, Malcolm McDowell, Danielle Harris, Brea Grant, Daniel Roebuck and Jeffrey Daniel Phillips.

Rob, let me tell you where you can stick that directors cut...

I'm sure he's already stuck it there in some hillbilly fetish. I like how he's still trying to trick people into seeing his crappy film. Instead of admitting he's a crap director he says there's another version, which will probably be even worse then the theatrical version.

hopefully the Phantom Jam will be longer...it really felt pointless in the theatrical, i don't know if making it longer would give it much more meaning. But, i'm interested in seeing how different it makes Laurie, i wasn't a fan of his Halloween, but with H2 i respected the original take on it all.

It was bad enough when directors would insert the stuff they were forced to remove due to studio pressure or running time into a new "director's cut" to rake in more DVD dollars. But I think it is flat out abusive to make two versions from the start. Just make your damn movie if you believe in your vision.

i wish all you rob zombie haters would jump on the bandwaggon and disappear.! What robs done his breath new life into michael myers and re start the whole franchise cos been honest what came before robs 2 halloweens was a pile of cack, but you lot stick wi your big bro michael, you obviously have no idea about film, giv the guy some slack. . if ya dont like it watch halloween 2 3 4 5 6 7 and 8 lol!

I didn't think Halloween 2 was a movie. It was just... more of an act than film. A very strange movie. But there's something about it that I like.

Just read the Fangoria (yeah amazing there's anything worth reading in that advert filled mess of a magazine but hey I digress) Halloween II (1981) retrospective, where it's rumoured director Rick Rosenthal is working on his preferred director's cut.
Gimme that any day of the week than Rob's downbeat rushed mess of a film.

"director's cut is very different than the theatrical version."
The Rob Zombie b-u-l-l-s-h-i-t machine just keeps on rolling, doesn't it? Yes Rob, of course it's "very different". Very, very different. Super-awesomely different. And much more brutal, I'm sure.

I actually liked h2 n i cant wait to see the directors cut
Posted by: Ian on October 26, 2009 at 13:00:24
wow....so he's making his characters even more white trash and un-likable? YAY! i'm sure we'll see more of his talentless wife and acid-trip dream sequences too. i wonder what trailer park his remake of the blob will take place in? they're just doing this because the movie tanked in theaters (people can smell his **** now and not even his die hard fans who'll see ANYTHING he does can keep him afloat...hence why more remakes). even though i'm sure the 3D halloween will be bad, i'm glad it's ignoring the abortion that was zombie's halloween 1 & 2.

H2 directors cuts sound really cool. Laurie would be a strung out mess after all the stuff she experienced. They are some weird movies and I gotta say Zombie's Halloween movies are better than the originals. They're smarter.
And I hate myself for thinking that because remakes are the most uninspired, useless, craptastic movies. But Rob Zombie's Halloween is everything the orignals could have been if it was written to engage the mind of the viewer instead of just getting to a point of beautiful creepiness.
The Halloween series ruined itself. Rob Zombie made Michael Myers into something more than a slow walking guy in a mask and I don't see what's so wrong with that.

Everyone seems to be so stuck on the original Halloween franchise because they get labeled as "classics" but watch them again before talking because they are not scary and not original after the first one its all a repeat with killing and hints of story thrown in the middle.
How about halloween 3 which had nothing to do with michael myers or halloween resurrection, with busta rhymes and a reality show. the franchise was going to ****.
So everyone comes on here and craps on rob zombies version but all in all i think it was better than the original. i like back story and not just here's a crazy guy who killed his sister and now he's hunting down his other sister and will kill random people while searching for her.
Rob Zombie's Halloween was a breath of fresh air. Horror fans just seem to be stuck in the past with their classics that are not scary. move on.

@aintnosaint
are u saying that u thought rob zombies halloween is scary?
Posted by: AintNoSaint on October 26, 2009 at 15:39:07
haha. good catch. not exactly, but i think rob zombie did make michael myers scarier than the original. You had more story of how twisted and just down right evil he is. He made Michael into a monster instead of a guy in a mask.
I think a lot of horror movies are lacking back story as long as there is a big body count which is what directors think is all that matters... which is what seems to have happened with H2... i in no way am sticking up for that...
but the original was a fresh start and i'm not looking forward to the next re-do of this in 3D. i think everything coming out in 3D is just stupid. the story suffers so the director can have as many stupid objects fly at the camera as possible. and when they are released on dvd, the movie suffers because the 3D is only cool on the big screen so all you have left is a s#it pile of a movie. final destination sucked, my bloody valentine sucked, we can even go back farther and friday the 13th 3D was a joke and Freddy's Dead (even though i'm a huge nighmare on elm st fan) was terrible. quit the the f'in 3D - totally different subject but i think halloween in 3D will suck as well.

hey they have add that to the film.
Posted by: yea on October 26, 2009 at 16:36:22
he's not breathing fresh shlt into the series, whatever he may have accomplished by recreating the series he also killed with that boolshlt ending he came up with.and no we dont wanna see junkie laurie we already seen hobo myers.

H2 had some of the best and most brutal moments out of ANY of the HALLOWEENS. absolutely.
Posted by: Nathan on October 26, 2009 at 19:14:10
Rob,don't listen to these haters. They're all just jealous.. none of you guys can even begin to make a film let alone start it. H2 exceeded my expectations b/c it broke every movie rule in the book. The first 20 minutes of the movie was a dream and i loved it. Not to mention, Michael was an absolute beast and i loved Zombies vision for this movie. The only Halloween i could watch again and i'm all for H3 in 3D. Do it Zombie, you got my ten bucks hahaha. You can hate on my comment, really don't care because the movie was the best Halloween and i can't see why you would disagree. Few days ago watched the scene when Busta is walking in the house and Myers is following him. what a funny ass scene.
Posted by: Nathan on October 26, 2009 at 19:18:24
i say in the third one, athorities lock up laurie strode and micheal comes in to break her out. Where the two of them begin thier own massacre. Or maybe Laurie breaks out herself out of an asylum and begins her quest to bring Micheal back to life!!

all of you haterzzz...shocktillyoudrop, has hataz is the house. all of you need to jump off or kick some rocks because this movie kicked ass!!! cant wait till it hitz da shelves.
@ironrider... i thought robs visions were scary becuase you get to see watz goin on behind the mask nd that makes it somewhat scaririer... and this one is even better then the original 2.3.4.5.6.and ressurection just because they werent simply suspensful nor scary...they were o.k . i simply liked this movie and i love robs visions and cant wait to see what patrick lussier does to the series in halloween 3d

@ Boogeyshoes
Actually, judging from the rest of that quote (yes, some of us actually are capable of reading more than one sentence at a time without getting distracted) seemed to indicate that he prefers the theatrical version. Nowhere did he state the director's cut was better or more hardcore than the theatrical version. Just that Laurie's portrayal is a lot darker. So much for your theorized "bulls_it machine". But I know that no matter what I or anyone else say you haters will read into something whatever you choose in order to rationalize your constant bitc_ing and moaning.
