Tim Burton's Frankenweenie Film Update

October 14, 2009

Tim Burton is still forging ahead with a feature-length, stop-motion adaptation of his live-action short film Frankenweenie, in spite of being attached to a number of projects including Dark Shadows.

ComingSoon.net spoke with producer Allison Abbate, who is also behind Wes Anderson's Fantastic Mr. Fox. She tells the site the resurrection of Frankenweenie is still some time off (around two years), but when this ol' dog does come sniffing around, we might see his adventures in black and white (like the original film) and in 3-D.

Shooting will occur in and around London.

Black and white equals instant fail. The majority of today's movie-going audience is 15-30 years old, especially for Tim Burton films, and these majority is what I call "film-racist", meaning they only watch movies in colour. Which is stupid, because it's just a way you're watching the film, like CG or stop motion or live action. Just a different way - believe you me, even Tim Burton fans would stay away from black and white. And why?

Because they're all stupid.

I'd definitely go see it though. I'm over 3D though. But Frankenweenie was a very cool short film and I'm interested in seeing the full-length version.

Tim Burton's "Ed Wood" is in black and white, and it's typically hailed as one of his best.

And Corpse Bride and Sweeney Todd might as well have been black and white, as desaturated as those films were for the majority of their run.

Burton fans won't mind.

I like black & white films (Frankenweenie, Bride of Frankenstein) and comic books (The Walking Dead).

I would like to see Frankenweenie ressurrected as a stop motion film in 3-D. I agree with you Bob* these dumbasses don't speak for us Burton fans.
