Near Dark Blu-Ray Arrives Featureless on Nov. 10th
October 13, 2009
DVD Active got a nice look at the cover art to the upcoming Blu-Ray release of Kathryn Bigelow's vampire cult classic
Near Dark. (Granted, the cover's been on Amazon for a while, but regardless, you can check it out below.) Looks like Lionsgate Home Entertainment is sticking with this obvious
Twilight-esque cover rather than the original promotional art.
Of note, although the Blu-Ray will be presented in widescreen with a 5.1 DTS HD Master Audio soundtrack, it appears it will have
no special features. None whatsoever. Kind of a bummer when you look at the excellent 2 disc special edition that Anchor Bay Entertainment put out several years ago. Alas, if you want Kathryn Bigelow's director's commentary or the cast interviews from the 47 minute documentary or deleted scenes, you'll have to hunt down that original Anchor Bay DVD.
Near Dark was directed by Kathryn Bigelow (
The Hurt Locker) and written by Eric Red (
100 Feet) and stars Adrian Pasdar (
Heroes), Jenny Wright (
The Lawnmower Man), Lance Henriksen, Bill Paxton, Janette Goldstein and Joshua Miller. Lionsgate's Blu-Ray version hits store shelves on November 10th.
Synopsis: Country boy Caleb Colton (Pasdar) whittles away the quiet rural nights hunting local girls. When he falls prey to the mysterious and beautiful Mae (Jenny Wright, The Lawnmower Man), Caleb unknowingly becomes the hunted. Mae is no ordinary girl, she is part of an outlaw band of vampires and their love is about to lure him into a terrifying world of bloodlust, mayhem and absolute horror. Will Caleb pay the ultimate price for love and eternal life or will he find a way to defeat the evil growing inside him each night…near dark?

This is good news cause when the special edition comes out than they will easily not have this twilight cover bull****!
