With
Saw VI coming out later this month on October 23rd, and pre-production in full swing for
Saw VII, which kicks off the next trilogy in the series and will be first to implement 3D, we caught up with screenwriter Marcus Dunstan and writing partner Patrick Melton at last night's Eyegore Awards to ask what the status on the next sequel was, due in theaters next Halloween.
"The second draft has been turned in for Saw VII 3D," Dunstan tells us.
"Well, the nice thing about what Kevin (Greutert) did with Saw VI was he provided some closure that fans have been requesting, but it also swiftly opened new opportunities for storytelling. Just the simple mechanism of working with Kevin and seeing how to raise the bar significantly was nice. VII is all the more exciting because now they’ve added a new layer of complexity by adding 3D."
"It’s supposed to be delivered to you by next Halloween," he continues,
"so we’ve had to be on the ball a hell of a lot earlier in order to provide that. We’re also competing with every other genre project out there, including the low budget ones or multi-million dollar ones, and this one still has to hit like a lightening bolt."
When asked if they're writing the next entry with 3D in mind, Dunstan says,
"Oh absolutely."
"That was the biggest question – why would you dare tell a movie called Saw in 3D? Well, the first trap in Saw VII answers that," he teases.
"It should awaken you like the first movie did."
Saw V director David Hackl returns to helm
Saw VII 3D due out Halloween 2010.

o.k., now enough's enough...no more "Saw" films after 6.
...just like with the "Halloween" films....milking them beyond dry.
i understand that this series definately has a following of fans...& i admit i was intrested in the first 3...but none after.
Jigsaw is NOT a horror icon...period! he's a good character - but personally, i don't think he's the stuff of a horror iconic.
seriously, it's time for a whole new horror series with good writing & even better kills.
the "Saw" films could have it...but i haven't really seen much from them in the way of this(the first trap in "Saw V" was good...but the rest was blah).
i love horror films & i'd really love to see a good "Saw" film...just haven't come down the pike yet.
..but who knows? maybe this one will be "the one".

And it comes out right near Halloween which kicks ass. It's not like the movie Halloween, 1 and 2, coming out in August...ish.

Okay...I admit I liked Saw 1, when I first seen it in theaters. Very original.
Now it's lame, lame and more lame.

"Kicks off the next trilogy"???? Are u fukin kidding me. They said the 3rd one was the end, then it was 6, now they're going to make at least 10 of these movies!!! Talk about milking a franchise for everything it's worth. IMO they should've AND could've stopped after the FIRST ONE!!!!!!!!!

Even though I love the franchise, i know this can't go on forever. But i'm glad they are going with part 7.

WWWWWHHHHHYYYYYY???????? WHY?!? The 1st one was a masterpiece and very original. It captivated me and gave me that shock and awe feel. It left me wanting more. When 2 and 3 came out, I was still somewhat interested and didn't mind seeing a 4th. After 4 and 5 came out I thought it should end. When I heard about SAW 6 I was like "Are you f***ing kiddin me?" Now a SAW 7 in the works?!? JUST KILL IT ALREADY!!! BRILLIANTLY PLEASE!!! One more thing... STOP THE F***ING 3D BULL$H!T!!!

I think it's great it will be in 3d. IM a huge fan of the Saw Movies. Im not exactly sure why people don't like them. people just examine every detail and go that can't happen, what ever happened to just going to a theater without looking for flaws. Why not just enjoy them. I love the gore and the story line. Its better then 90% of the horror movies that even come out. Most is garbage , chicks getting naked, smoking pot, if i wanted that ill go watch a porno.
Long Live Saw !!!!!!

When I heard Saw VII was going to be in 3D, I decided not to watch Saw VI. I'm not a child, I'm a grown arse man.

My family are saw fans we see it at the movies and then buy the dvd. I beg you not to follow the stupid trend on first person fliming like cloverfield and others you will destroy the movie and stop my family and friends from watching it. We do not need 3-d to make the movies great. Bring back john that would turn numbers around. Please as a saw fan dont kill a good thing thanks, Brian.

I can't wait for this. I love the SAW movies. The stories haven't exactly been top notch, but I love the genre. I hope they don't stop making them.
