Fuller Responds to Elm Street Trailer Feedback
October 1, 2009

Producer Brad Fuller checked in via the Platinum Dunes
blog on Bloody-Disgusting to answer a few fan questions and talk about the overwhelming response to the recently released
Nightmare On Elm Street trailer.
Regarding Freddy Krueger's look, Fuller writes,
"we are continuing to refine Freddy's look. Many people commented about the CGI on his face - and I don't want to give everything away but I will say this - Freddy's face is 98% practical make-up. Moreover, as you now know we went hardcore on what a burn victim really looks like."
This writer personally likes the way Freddy's one line of dialogue sounds in the trailer. (He has no lips! He would sound like that!) Fuller says,
"Jackie spent so much time on the voice, researching what people who've has their vocal cords burned sound like. He is still working on it and I suspect that we will be refining it, until the last moment."
You can read more comments from Fuller on the blog right
here. He also promises some
Friday The 13th Part 2 news shortly.
Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker and Katie Cassidy star in this reboot of the Nightmare franchise. New Line opens the film on April 30.

Synopsis: Freddy Krueger returns in
A Nightmare On Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another... but when they sleep, there is no escape. Jackie Earle Haley stars as Krueger.

That's cool, and I'm digging the new Freddy. I'm anticipating the F13th news as well.

I think it looks ok but it actually looked so much like the original. Also, I thought the Friday the 13th remake was not quite S*** but it wasn't very good. I do hope that Jackie Earle Haley make's me afraid of Freddy again, he kind of became a joke. I will definitely check it out, just to see if they do it right.

I think that it is smart to have freddy look like a burned victim and how he would sound like!

I like it so far. I'm anticipating the final clear image of Freddy.

The voice really needs to go. It sounded more funny and odd. It should be menacing and scary, and it was anything but.

I'm not only psyched to have Freddy back, especially with the quality actor that Jackie is...but I enjoyed the Friday the 13th remake, I would honestly put it in the Top 10 horror films of the decade (Not that hard to make, horror has gone down hill and any fellow horror fan should agree)...but I'm excited about the new for F13th2 and inevitably what seems to build towards a Freddy Vs. Jason redo...Michael Bay can destroy big effin robots, lets see what he can do with 2 of horror's biggest names. And don't tell me he doesn't have input on the products Anchor Bay distributes solely because he's a Producer...he's Michael Bay...the guy puts his input in there.

Looked pretty decent to me for the most part. No problems and it looks beautifully filmed.
I hope it's better than the Friday the 13th remake which was nothing more than bland (despite a solid cast). There was just nothing to it and it was completely forgettable.
Top Ten of the decade? Agreed that horror has gone downhill, but if you look around there's some good stuff out there. But putting the F13 remake in there? Come on... get a grip.
Didn't hate it - just made zero impact.

yeah, count me in too. this looks pretty good. and so many people are having fits about his voice. as mentioned THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE WITH NO LIPS AND BURNED VOCAL CHOARDS WOULD SOUND LIKE! they aren't going to sound like Robert Englund. sorry. and i'm thrilled to see the awesome Katie Cassidy dominate the trailer!

I like what i am hearing. They are doing their research and I have said this before I want Jackie Earle Haley to play Freddy Kruger and not play Robert Englund as Freddy Kruger.

Wow this makes me feel ALOT better about watching this :] no joke
LOVE that they're going for the realistic look this time, I know JEH will do a great job as Freddy, and am I the only one that found his voice gritty and awesome!!lol

Here is my thing. He is not a burn victim really...he was just burned! Now he is a monster who haunts the dreams of teenagers. He can look however he wants. While I appreciate the realistic view on such a person, I don't think it works for "Freddy." He needs to be FREDDY, not a burn victim.

Story! Story! Story! They have to focus on the story. The back story for this movie is fascinating. They could make it so interesting as well as scary if they really develop the history and not just have a three minute scene where they torch Freddy. They missed this opportunity with the F13th remake. There is such an interesting and frightening back story there but they opted to go into dumb down mode. Right off we see the teen agers blah blah and then immediately they are picked off one by one and then its done. No story. Too bad. Huge missed opportunity. Its the story guys! Make it interesting and it well be more scary and effective. Am I the only one who sees this?

"He is not a burn victim really...he was just burned!"
That's easily one of the silliest arguments ever.
But at least it made me laugh out loud, so thanks for the chuckle.
"He needs to NOT look like a burn victim, even though he was set on fire and... ya know, burned to death!"
Alrighty then.

Dude yess I agree with you 100% CW
I was expecting a decent amount of Freddys backstory
Kinda like what they did with RZ's Halloween, but only this time its good

Even though robg got a good laugh out of it, I have to agree with Spanish39. Yes he may have been a burn victim, but he's also a monster who stalks people in their dreams. A monster from hell doesnt have to look like a real burn victim. Its Nightmare of Elm Street for goodness sake, it's not supposed to be authentic, it's supposed to be scary!
I'm trying to stay open minded about it. I loved the Friday the 13th remake, so maybe I'll end up loving this too. (maybe)
