The Nightmare On Elm Street Trailer Is Here!

Source:MySpace
September 28, 2009

It's finally here. Your first look at the new Freddy Krueger! MySpace Trailer Park just unveiled the first teaser trailer for Platinum Dunes remake of A Nightmare on Elm Street.

What are you waiting for? Check it out below now!

Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner, Thomas Dekker and Katie Cassidy star in this reboot of the Nightmare franchise. New Line opens the film on April 30.

Synopsis: Freddy Krueger returns in A Nightmare on Elm Street, a contemporary re-imagining of the horror classic. A group of suburban teenagers share one common bond: they are all being stalked by Freddy Krueger, a horribly disfigured killer who hunts them in their dreams. As long as they stay awake, they can protect one another... but when they sleep, there is no escape. Jackie Earle Haley stars as Krueger.

I just finished watching the trailer over on MySpace (not in HD; **** HD) and all I can say is ho...ly...sh...it...I'm glad I didn't catch the ComiCon footage as it made me cringe day and night to see what it was like. Every review if poured over all used the same adjectives: brilliant, visual, dark, scary. The trailer glorified all of these things, first and foremost, making Freddy scary again; he's not Robert Englund's Frdday (thank God; no disrespect for Mr. Engulnd's Freddy, but the wise cracks were running thin), but Freddy needed a makeover. And God did he get one; the trailer bleeds of care and love that shows the makers really care about the franchise. The flashes of dream sequences came off as stunning and unique while echoing back to the 1984 orginal. And Jackie's Freddy voice was great: deep, scratchy with a kinda gansgter quality to it. Listen to his pleading human voice, then listen to his supernatural tone; you'll see why Jackie Earle Haley was the perfect- no, the only man- for the job. Near the end, if you pause at the right moment, you can get a better glimpse as to what Freddy's burnt face looks like. At first, I was disappointed, having grown up idolizing the large patches of burnt tissue that covered up most of Mr. Englund's face. However, after the sixth viewing, I grew more attached to it (this is is a re-imagining afterall, so of course some things will change). The sweater, the hat and the glove are all there and the make-up just comes off as creepy, almost like there's more to be seen.

My date is booked for April 30th, 2010, as this nightmare looks like a dream come true...

one small immediate gripe from me is...tah dah! freddy's voice here isn't as creepy or scary as robert's portrayal. it doesn't sound as threatening and evil, seems like in post they could have put more filters on it...I still want to see it though.

As a huge Freddy Krueger fan, this looks pretty *****in' to me. Far darker and cooler then the last 3 or 4 NIGHTMARE films.

Posted by: Ian on September 28, 2009 at 01:52:04

The atmosphere looks good, lots of re-created moments, definitely not funny.....but the new Freddy makeup looks awful! (although I'm sure lots will love the drastic change). He looks like a muppet or something to me. Also kinda looks like they took the first three movies and mashed em up into one...again. Friday the 13th was a snooze-fest and I predict this will be too. But I'm sure those who've liked Platinum Dunes' past flicks will dig it.

Friday the 13th remake had a great trailer too.

That's all I'm saying.

To Jsyn:

Yeah, "Friday the 13th" had a great trailer- and it turned out to be a great movie, too. I heard many people gripe about it not being a good movie, so I asked if they'd seen the other ones, to which they responded, "No". It's all about fanboy-ism; if you're a fan, you'll love (unless they take a dump on it and throw it before your eyes, to which we should praise the fact that Uwe Boll hasn't remade a classic horror film yet). If you're not, shut up, as you don't know what you're talking about. "Friday the 13th" was exactly what I knew it was going to be- a fun, campy little slasher movie that just ended being badass as hell, going balls to the wall and not caring about the buzz around them. Same with Freddy; yeah, there'll be people *****ing about it, but ask them if they were a fan first before you punch them in the head.

I'm there!

Looks awesome.

I don't see what the griping is all about. It's not like we're remaking Lawrence of Arabia here. The original isn't nearly as untouchable as people seem to think it is, and this one doesn't even have to be as good as the original to be worth it. This looks scary, well-acted, and well-directed; close enough to the original that it's still Nightmare on Elm Street, but different and original enough to merit being a separate movie.

Dustin Miller = Michael Bay

Platinum dunes did take a dump on friday the 13th and throw it before my eyes, i've seen every F13 movie multiple times(including the awful Jason X) and the new one sucked.. This is the only remake im actually not going to bash the hell out of without seeing it first. I'm willing to give it a chance because of Jackie. He was spot on saying F13 had a great trailer and sucked. The trailer for this was really good..but like we've seen with thousands of movies..a great trailer doesnt mean it's going to be a great movie.

That was far, far more more impressive than I had hoped it would be. Watched it in 1080p, ****ing awesome detail in the makeup. FREDDY ACTUALLY LOOKS LIKE A REAL BURN VICTIM! The makeup is very realistic looking. (My wife's aunt was burned severely over 70% of her body and face. That's what a burn victim looks like people!) The glove looks deadly. J.E. Haley is the only logical choice for Freddy. The movie looks very creepy. I'm keeping high hopes. The Friday the 13th trailer was awesome, and that movie turned out to be ****ing garbage! I hope that isn't the case here!

I'm impressed, Freddy looks realistic. (Sorry, the original never looked real or like a burn victim.) The tone of the movie looks dark. Glad they got Freddy back to a serious tone.

Most of the Nightmare movies were basically crap. Entertaining crap, but crap nonetheless. This looks to be, at the very worst, exceedingly entertaining, albeit much grimmer and darker, crap. At best it could be the scariest, most fully-realized film version of the Freddy concept we've had.

Posted by: aaa on September 28, 2009 at 02:15:22

Have none of you ever seen a burn victim? Cause he may not look like the original, but it looks a lot more realistic.

Wrong sweater=the producers didn't give a ****.

Posted by: robg on September 28, 2009 at 02:30:37

What's this wrong sweater business?

You mean the sleeves? They changed that by PART 2 and left it that way in every sequel ever since.

Posted by: Sweater Fan on September 28, 2009 at 02:53:29

Who cares if the sweater is different anyway?

It's a REMAKE! It's supposed to be different.

I'd have no problem if Freddy's new sweater had purple and yellow dayglo stripes.

Bring it, dodgy clothing and all!

Well this first look really has no impressed me at all, looking at it now I wish they would have cast Robert Englund once again to dawn the glove, Jackie Earle Haley just does not cut it for me, his voice sounds weak, the look is horrible, looks more like just some burnt guy, I mean really, if it aint broke, don't fix it, now Jason, Michael Myers & Leatherface you can get away with doing re-makes on them, they wear masks, but Freddy Kruger, that is a whole different story.

Posted by: DR on September 28, 2009 at 03:03:07

Just finished watching it five times (always do that with a film I'm really anticipating). Visually, it looks great. I'm really looking forward to seeing what they do with the nightmare dreamscapes and the use of light and darkness inside Freddy's boiler room looks really good right now. I'm really surprised they gave us the trailer this soon - a full seven months before the film gets released.

And as someone who has read the script for this reboot, in my opinion the filmmakers did take a unique and different road with the NOES story. I think Platinum Dunes for once is gonna have a lot more lovers than haters next April.

Jackie Earle Haley is an Oscar nominated "real" actor.

Robert Englund is doing movies like ZOMBIE STRIPPERS these days.

Looking forward to a real actor giving Freddy Krueger a whirl.

I dig it :) Judging from the trailer it looks to be good. But thats the point of a trailer, to get you to see it. Ive been very excited for this for a long time. Looks great so far.
Spider-Man 3 great trailers!!! lol. Crap movie. Love the new look, more realistic.

Posted by: Miles Finch on September 28, 2009 at 04:13:39

Platinum Dud's strikes again!!!!! Being a fan of the Elm Street movies for over 25 years now I'm not too excited about this. Just dont like the feel of this, after Wes's Elm Street being dark, old school kinda low budget gritty and this is just some glossy overproduced film. People! Elm Street 1 is one of the best horror films of all time and you just cant duplicate that. I'm just on the fence with these remakes, I like to see them be faithful to the orignal but not necessary some cookie cutter version. Like Englund not being in this, Not sure if thats a good decision or not but the time has come and they would've had to replace him at some point. Guess it's better now than replacing him the after the 1st, 2nd or 3rd movie. !!JACKIE EARLE HALEY IS SIGNED ON FOR THE NEXT TWO SEQUELS!!

people bit#ch waaaaay to much about remakes/reimagines in my opinion!,The original series will always be there in memorys/dvds/tribute vids on youtube and stuff,They wil not be forgotten and so no need to have one series over another,I have all f-13's/halloweens/noes dvds aswell as new remakes/reimagines as part as nice collections.

Posted by: justin on September 28, 2009 at 04:43:35

@ Dustin Miller:

Not true. I'm a huge fan of the 13th flicks, and thought the remake trailer looked awesome...and hated the movie (aside from one or two moments).

The problem is, The Texas Chainsaw remake was done well, and kinda set the standard for gritty, realistic, horror-remakes. The Hills Have Eyes was another successful one if you ask me, and I didn't even really mind Zombie's Halloween (although I have yet to see the sequel) - they were all pretty terrifying.

Friday the 13th just really sucked - the "kids getting drunk and screwing" formula is just tired. Another huge problem is, these young kids they keep hiring to be the slaughter fodder are terrible actors - listen to the dialogue, no one talks like that! And somebody put Jared Padalecki down, for crying out loud.

The only thing that can make this Nightmare remake a success is if the acting's convincing and the dream deaths are AMAZINGLY FRIGHTENING - there's SO much a writer could do with that.
