Update: We now have both the front and back DVD art for Happy Birthday To Me. Check 'em out below!

Come October 13th, "slasher" fans will have plenty to be happy about when Anchor Bay Entertainment releases the 1981 cult classic Happy Birthday To Me. Below you'll find the DVD cover, which (thankfully) maintains the original infamous VHS box and poster artwork. (Sure, the "John will never eat shish kebab again" tagline is absent, but the at least the image remains intact!)

The disc sports a sticker that reads "Now with the score fans have begged for!" That's right. The original Bo Harwood and Lance Rubin score has been restored for this DVD release.

Happy Birthday to Me was directed by Academy Award nominee J. Lee Thompson (The Guns of Navarone, the original Cape Fear) and stars Emmy Award nominee Melissa Sue Anderson and Golden Globe Award winner and Hollywood legend Glenn Ford (3:10 to Yuma, Superman).

Some one want to fill me in on what happened with the Score to the movie? What happened to the original, what replaced it and why? Thanks!

Well ok, kudos to having the original score restored, however, the bigger issue is why not restoring the MPAA and studio enforced cuts to the kills?

If Lionsgate can throw together a semi restored My Bloody Valentine...

I'm one of the "slasher" fans mentioned in the story, but somehow I've never heard of this one. I have to say, it was the right decision to keep the cover art, becasue it's sold me. I can't wait to see this.

Though I'd pick this up if it was on Blu-Ray, how is that image in any way birthday related?

Seems more like the Texas BBQ Massacre with that kebab...

I wish it had bonus features but I'm gettin' it anyway.

It's related to one of the famous kills in the movie.

We won't see bonus features until a remake happens. Special Edition DVDs cost money to produce. A lot of money from what I hear. If a remake hits theatres and does well it makes sense to release a special edition of the original because people will more than likely check it out, and they will recoupe the cost and maybe even profit from it. I'm just glad to have this released the way it should have been the first time. Even without bonus material, it's still worth having in your collection. It's one of my favorites and like it says on the box, a slit throat above the usual slasher flick and it is. Good acting, direction, mystery/story and the music score is perfect. That's why it was such a disappointment on the first DVD release when it was absent. The right music is vital in film. It sets the entire tone. The DVD here looks awesome!
