Patrick Lussier in Talks for Halloween 3D

Source:Variety
September 7, 2009

As part of a story on the future of the Weinstein Company, and Bob Weinstein's genre division Dimension Films, Variety reports that My Bloody Valentine 3D director Patrick Lussier is in talks to write and direct the recently-announced Halloween 3D with plans to have it ready for a summer 2010 release. Dimension have also tapped Ehren Kruger (The Ring) to adapt Stephen King's short story Children of the Corn into a new movie. The story of a boy preacher who persuades the kids of a Nebraska town to kill all the adults was previously turned into a movie in 1984, and that went on to spawn six sequels.

You can read the entire story over at Variety.

What about the 2009 remake of Children of the Corn that's gonna air on the Syphilis Channel on September 26th?

Patrick Lussier popped into my head when all the Steve Miner rumors started too. If the rumors of Miner were not true, then I thought of Lussier. He did a great job with the look and tone and atmosphere of MBV, so this could be good!.

have to come here and responde to the idiots who commented on this news on comingsoon.net but anywho these morons who are saying the new halloween movie sucked can suck robs cock because it didnt suck it was intense and fantastic despite the white horse thing, and for all you who think a halloween 3D is a good idea have no room to say **** about robs halloween cause that is the dumbest idea ever. What the hell is up with all these 3D movies that cost a fortune to go see in theaters and its ****ing 3D its dumb as ****, god you people annoy the **** out of me you sit there and knock robs halloween a brilliant twist and original idea for the story and then your all "oh hell yeah a 3D halloween" ****ing dumb asses.

I like Lussier a lot. I dug MBV3D, and even enjoyed his Dracula flicks. But I really, reeaalllly hope that if he does Halloween 3D, he picks up where H2 left off. Sure - no Michael, no Loomis, but the Laurie character is strong enough to warrant her own stand-alone flick at this point (though it'd take a damned fine writer to make this happen).

What other option is there? Yet another reboot? Do we really need to see yet another take on Carpenter's original? Or, perhaps, a Season of the Witch-esque installment unrelated to the previous films? Actually, I might be alright with that. If only the Weinsteins would just buy Trick 'r Treat and release it as a Halloween flick, that might give the franchise a new life as a once-a-year anthology series.

His screenwriting credits are: Dracula 2000, Dracula II and Dracula III. i wonder if Patrick Lussier got blasted by Dracula fans for taking him in a different direction in Dracula 2000 by making him actually be Judas Iscaroit the disciple who sold out Christ to the Romans for 30 pieces of silver (hence, Dracula's dislike of silver). I can hear them now "Thats not how Bram Stoker wrote it"!! This guy can think outside the box a little and add a twist to a classic character. I think he is a better pick then miner but i wish Zombie was coming back, and anybody who thinks rob is not coming back for any other reason then his own choice is wrong. Zombie already has a new album and tour planned for this year, he has a whole other successful career to attend to.

@Jinx

i agree i hope they continue with the current series and dont revert to a prior storyline like a sequel to where 6 left off or something!!! Loomis should be dead, i think that the Sherrif Bracket character could be the loomis like character of this series, As far as micheal goes he has survived much worse, but if anyhing he would be back in custody no way to get away from all the cops at the end of H2. And please not another killer going to the morgue only to still be alive that concept is played out. Taking Micheal back into custody could be interesting as long as they dont have the man in black bust him out

Halloween 3D just doesn't sit well with me. I'd like to have a super bad ass director and call the movie Halloween 666. I want to see Michael turn someone into a human Jack-o-lantern (not the pumkin over the face I mean actually turning the someones head into one, like in the comic book. The candle wax was dripping from the mouth and everything. Man that would be awesome on film).

I will take any Halloween movie as long as R Zombie has nothing to do with it. H2 sucked bad and took this franchise severalsteps back. White horse was retarded concept

i think rob's white trash, low-life, un-original halloween sucked, i'm happy to see the sequel is a failure, and i think a 3D halloween would suck too (just not as bad if it was free of redneck duche bags). this series died in the 80's and i think after 3 crap sequels, a crap remake and a crap sequel to a crap remake i think it's safe to say RIP michael myers.

I thought Patrick did a good job with the My Bloody Valentine remake, so I have complete faith that he will do a plesant job with the next Halloween film. I do wonder if Scout Taylor Compton and Malcolm McDonnell will return to the next film, or will Lussier go a different direction and recast both roles, since SPOILER ALERT FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T SEE IT: Loomis is presumed dead and Laurie wound up in a mental institution. I am worried about H3D since word on the street is that Dimension Films is running out of money. Inglorious Basterds exceeded expectations, and Halloween 2 is considered a commercial and financial failure, getting it's ass handed to them on a dingy white trash plate by Final Destination 4. So no word what may happen with Alexandre Aja's Pirahna 3D, Halloween 3D, and the upcoming Scream sequels. Hopefully they can work it out financially and we'll get to see all the films on the Dimension roster. Now if only Dimenasion would take a chance and maybe come up with some original horror ideas instead of following the remake flock, maybe they'll make some money.

where would the story go? i dont see how they could bring michael back unless lauries stab wounds werent fatal, that was never really explained ya know? all they showed was her stabbing then her in the mask. maybe they both are in the nut house maybe just neighbors?

I am only slightly less concerned about this now. Better than Miner, but still not the sort of name I'd tap to either continue what Zombie began or start from scratch. Which of course makes me wonder which option they're going with anyway. Either one seems like a terrible idea.

Bring on Halloween 3D it cant be any worse than what RZ/KFC did to the franchise and most likely dimension films demise.

Red neck trash. White hores sucks. Douche [or duche] bags suck. Original ideas suck. Carbon copies rule. Movies tailor-made for morons rule. Challenges to the audience suck. Halloween 2 was a flop, even though it turned a profit on its opening weekend and the rest is gravy. Beautiful & talented actresses suck if they are married to Rob Zombie. Zombie killed Halloween; all those previous sequels were awesome. Why don't they hire me to make movies? I am awesome. Women more beautiful than Sheri throw themselves at me but I spurn them. I rule.

Posted by: Dutch on September 7, 2009 at 23:53:59

Sorry for above typo. That's "horse" not "hores". I am still awesome.

Posted by: CHARLESLEERAY on September 8, 2009 at 12:47:08

@ kris

Presumed dead?!

He got stabbed in the face like 20 times

(I'm not being a spoiler anyone who wanted to see it would have already.)

So I think its safe to say Malcolm wont be back. If Hollywood is smart for once anyway.

But I think Jims right about bracket taking the place of loomis If Douriff isnt too busy on the child's play remake that is.

Dutch - priceless, buddy. Priceless. You ARE awesome.
