ShockTillYouDrop.com has learned that MGM's planned remake of Tobe Hooper's classic '80s haunted house movie Poltergeist has received a release date of November 24, 2010, Thanksgiving weekend. With director Vadim Perelman (House of Sand and Fog) attached since last September, the production has been in development a long time with a script surfacing last year, but so far, no cast has been announced and no information about where or when they might start filming.

Some people are going to die, literally. If it's a such thing as a "movie" being cursed, this one is it!

it could be good, what they could do with the remake is it be a family moves into a home, that craig t nelsons company had built, if im not mistaken his character was a contractor, bring him back in at least a cameo along with jobeth williams to console and assist the family that is dealing with the poltergeist and they could get the girl that played esther in orpan to be the new heather orourke role, as carol anne.

I personally like remakes and look forward to seeing which classics are being redone. A remake of a classic can be great if the story line doesn't change and I love comparing the old to the new. Hopefully they don't change a thing with the storyline on this one though because this is one classic that if done right will be awesome.

I loved this film as a kid. I'll be curious to see where they take it.

Darn you STYD for giving me more reasons to come to this site after H2 and Nightmare are done.

I wonder if this remake will be as horrible as the Amityville Horror remake. Movies like this never work. It will probably be cast with 18 year olds as the parents (have to appeal to the teen audience) and be crammed with ridiculous over the top special effects. Ill stick with the original.

This is the absolute WORST idea in the sad recent slew of remakes! Poltergeist is the ultimate spookhouse ghost story! It belongs to it's era, it's actors and it's true on set director, STEVEN SPIELBERG! This cannot and should not be even ****ing attempted!! POLTERGEIST came out in 1982 and it's underrated sequel came out in 1986. There never was a POLTERGEIST III and there doesn't need to be one in 2010. Have some respect!

I think this movie will be a sucess if:

-David Tennant or Chris Vance plays Steve. Vance's "Mental" was cancelled for its low ratings, so he might find sucess in this one. Tennant was known for playing Doctor Who (the modern one), so british viewers might be fammiliar with him.

-Faye Dunaway plays Dr. Lesh. haven't seen her in theatres for a long while.

-An unknown plays Tangina. They should have an open casting call for that role, they might have auditions for Americans and foreign. Same thing applies to Carol-Anne.

-Ever Carradine plays Diane. She might be a good Diane.

-David Carradine's stepchildren, Max (age 11) And Amanda (age 20), played Robbie and Dana, respectively.

-Hugh Laurie plays Mr Teague. That would bring the audience with that actor.

-The remake covers Poltergeist 1 and Poltergeist 2. That would be entertaining.
